Chapter 9 - At the Sambords

"Sounds like a we got our votes," says Angus. "When the spell casters are ready, let's go."

Unless Angus and Hellebore want to do an early morning scouting run? Or is Hellebore among those who need their beauty rest?

[Marullus]

I assumed this conversation was after we woke.

[Zhym]

Right, but the casters need until 10:30 to get their spells. I didn't know if Hellebore would be ready for some advance scouting before then or if she was one of the ones who had to wait until 10:30.

[Marullus]

She is sleeping in. If you all leave before we get up, go for it.

[Zhym]

Nah, we'll wait.

Arnulf will memorize Sleep x2 and Light, taking whatever time is necessary to learn them.

Those are all 1st level spells. I'll assume he wants invisibility, but does Arnulf want two sleep spells or sleep and light?

Also apologies for the delays. I was traveling for a funeral (everything's ok) and the travel and other work responsibilities wiped me out this week.

Although it takes him awhile, Arnulf and the others pray and study their spells. Their goblin eventually notices Hellebore's wolf. "You friends with Qatkir? Very good" he nods approvingly. The goblin stays near the halfling and her wolf, who seems to return the goblin's affection. It sneers at all the others.

Angus leads the way, following the tracks of the goblins that fled the night before. They pass out of the perimeter again, and within 90 minutes they find a crude goblin camp. One stands on guard, 120' feet away. The goblin with the party calls out to it in a friendly greeting - and the guard goblin looks confused at seeing it with the party.

Two other goblins stir under a tarp and blankets.

Angus's face falls at the sight of three pathetic goblins. There's no way they could go against even a small force of orcs, he thinks. Still, best to let Hellebore and/or Arnulf do their things.

He smiles and waves at the goblins in as friendly-looking a manner as he can manage.

I ought punch you again, yeahh, Hyde snarls at their Goblin companion for giving away the party's position. He stands ready for whatever welcome they receive.

Ration marked off.

Hellebore waves in a friendly way, murmuring her incantations as she focuses on the guard. Once she has completed this, she approaches, watching closely to guard its effectiveness.

"Good morning! It is good we found each other. You are just the goblins needed for killing those nasty orcs." She uses her graces as well as her charms to flatter the goblin guard, asking her two new friends about the other two now waking. Who is the strongest, the bravest, the sneakiest? What are they best at? As the others wake and join them, she asks what they know of the orc patrols and where to find them. She carefully watches the two un-charmed goblins for their dispositions.

Yenny walks forward towards the goblins. Picking up on Hellebore's cue, she says in Goblin,

"Good day little friends. We would like to have a chat with you."

. She keeps her shield forward in anticipation of arrows.

[Zorroroaster]

Sorry, yes. That should have been Sleep, Light, Invisibility.

Arnulf watches Hellebore and Yenny interact with the goblins. He holds a feather in one hand, ready to begin his Sleep spell if this approach fails.

Dandelion stands ready to fire her arrow at whichever goblin dared damage her beautiful skin. She does hide that readiness, however. The arrow is attached but pointed safely toward the ground.

DM rolls dice...

The lone goblin seems reassured by the sight of the goblin with the party...and Qatkir. But he still holds a weapon as Hellebore chants. The others stand ready. Hellebore continues her chant in druidic tongue as Hyde admonishes their humanoid companion, threatening to punch him again.

DM rolls dice...

The goblin guard lowers its bow as Hellebore's words sooth him. He smiles and calls back to the two, now risen from their bed, squinting in the grey daylight. "Look!" the guard cries excitedly, pointing at Yenny. "I think Bubkur and the little lady brought us dinner!"

The two goblins, near the tarp, look at the assembled party blankly.

Angus rolls his eyes and waits for things to shake out between Hellebore and her goblins.

"Yes, dinner. May we sit at your fire? How many are here that will join us? Is it just you four, or are there more?"

Galan takes an opportunity to split off from the group and veer left into the cover offered. He moves to flank the goblins...just in case.

Dinner? Hyde squints in an angry confusion, Do I look like dinner? We came as good pals, yeahh, Barkbur here knows that. Just simmer down and let's talk, hah? You get outta hand and I'll slug ya.

Dandelion stands and stews...watching for a reason to raise her weapon.

Arnulf tries hard not to roll his eyes. Otherwise, he watches and waits.
