He's being friendly? Remember, Lug went off with Orrin and company and doesnt know the extent of Numen's issues. Those came to light in the tunnels of the mountain after the confrontation between Fangir and the Wolf. Could just be some very excellent IC roleplay by Zhym.

Niles was convinced, seeing the spell, that it was a charm and told the others so IC. No reason people IC needed to believe him, though.
Nihilius waits anxiously outside the door, fingers itching to begin the tell-tale wiggling that accompanies his magical incantations. Ferris pads up and whines at him, tilting his furred head. Niles shushes him loudly, still straining to hear any noise of approach through the heavy door.

Varas is convinced too. Lug tried to beat up Wendall, Numen casts a spell then suddenly Lug takes Numen's advice to be friends? Doubtful, especially after Wendall used up all of his magic. Might not be enough to convict in a court of law, but Varas isn't taking any chances, but it's overwhelmingly likely. Plus, Lug hasn't communicated with the other party members to convince them that his actions are wise or even the rationale behind their departure.

Having said her piece, Ruwyn Hollowheart steps aside and goes further into the tower, waiting to see what transpires.
Re: Expedition - Lug/Rescue II - 28 April, 1 VC
Numen didn't really do anything obviously recognizeable as spell casting to those not trained in the arcane arts. He greeted Lug, made a couple swift hand gestures, and then Lug was suddenly much calmer and friendlier. There are certainly those among you who can call a spade a spade, but for others it's not quite black and white, which I think folks have been effectively playing out.

All right, we'll let Numen go outside and you guys can take him out.
On November 2nd I will be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. Tara's Hide [1d100] = 87
Varas does his best to hide outside the door--but there isn't a lot of space. He flattens himself as much as possible on the outside of the wall, ready to strike at the first opportunity. As Numen exits, however, he seems to catch a glimpse of something unusual, turning slightly to see what. Varas strikes at that moment, before the element of surprise is lost, and the swiftness of his attack catches the elf off-guard.
Numen surprised on 1-2 [1d6] = 2
Vargas may make a backstabbing attempt on Numen. Sorry for the typo in the hide roll

And at the end. Updated my phone's OS and thought it was improving my autocorrect woes but it's only confused me about how to prevent errors...

Love the autocorrects!
The tall thief steps from the wall deliberately, swinging his sword at the back of Numen.
Varas backstab attempt (THAC0 19) [1d20+4] = 5+4 = 9, damage [2d8] = 4
Sigh.

Simultaneously, Nihilius releases his sleep spell at Numen, Lug, and Wendall, the long shadows of the dawn darkening wickedly as they slip up their legs and over their mouths.

Wendall save vs sleep [1d20] = 4
Numen save vs sleep [1d20] = 1
Both Wendall and Numen fall to the ground, asleep. Go ahead and roll a save for Lug.

Lug is not sleepy! He is immune to your lullabies!
Save v. Spell ONE MORE TIME (16): [1d20-2] = 18-2 = 16
He draws Reason and whips his head around, trying to understand what happened to Numen. "What the hell?" he says. "Did someone just zonk Numen? Did Varas just attack Numen?"

Ruwyn rushes forward to see if Lug changes in demeanor beyond surprise. She does a quick somersault to land right behind Lug.
"We feared you're under a spell!
It was rather hard to tell!
But if you're fine
Then show a sign
And we'll know that all is well!"

"ME?" cries Lug. "I'm not the one who just tried to kill my buddy Numen there! Why don't you ask Varas if he's been mojoed?" Lug holds Reason before him, ready to strike if Varas decides to attack again.

Re: Expedition - Lug/Rescue II - 28 April, 1 VC
"Why the sudden friendship with Numen?" asks Varas, eyeing Lug suspiciously. "Niles and Ruwyn here think he has you under a magical spell, and I believe them. Are you willing to kill me over him? And have you forgotten the mission to rescue your friends so quickly? Numen is no friend of ours."
If any move is made to rouse Numen while Varas is speaking, or if Lug makes a move at Varas, he will break off dialog and attack.

Re: Expedition - Lug/Rescue II - 28 April, 1 VC
"Whaddya mean, sudden? Numen's my good pal!" insists Lug. "And, yeah, if you try to kill Numen, I'm gonna do what I have to do to stop you, same as I would to Numen if he went bug-nutty and tried to kill you. Can't have my friends trying to kill each other!"
"The mission to rescue my friends is over. I failed. Might as well go on a new mission now, right?"

This last line is all Varas needs to hear. Lug was incredibly determined to rescue his friends; this sudden turn in perspective convinces the tall thief that Numen holds powerful sway over the giant Lug.
Varas moves to slay the slumbering Numen.
Initiative, if needed:
Reason is gonna hurt!

Re: Expedition - Lug/Rescue II - 28 April, 1 VC
Lug sees Varas move toward Numen and tries to keep himself between his sleeping friend and the murderous thief. He swings Reason at Varas with the flat of his blade, but finds that the huge sword is more awkward to use that way.
"What the hell?" he cries again. "Stop it! Even if Varas did mojo me—which he didn't—he would have had a good reason! There's no need to kill him!"
Initiative: [1d6] = 3
Reason (Claymore) (THAC0 18): [1d20+2] = 5+2 = 7 Dmg: [1d10+2] = 4+2 = 6

Dorvar
Dorvar, seeing Lug make an attack on Varas, smacks the big man on the head with the flat of his blade in an attempt to subdue him.
Lug, stay your blade! We don't wish to hurt you, but believe Numen has a put spell on you, even if you are unable to see that for yourself. In fact, if he had cast a spell on you, you would not be aware of it. Do not give up on your friends that easily. We pledged to help you, and help you we will. When we get back to Vaul we can resupply and set out once more.

We don't do individual initiative, so Dorvar will be using Varas's roll which represents the "anti-Numen" combat faction.
