Kayen hurls one of his precious javelins toward the shuffling things, his face a mask of determination...
To hit: [1d20+3] = 20+3 = 23, damage with Javelin of Piercing: [1d6+6] = 6+6 = 12
ooc - Crazy good rolls! Looking at other rolls, maybe I didn't follow normal protocol with the bonus/penalty to hit. Javelin is +6 to hit, +1 to hit Dexterity bonus, -4 to hit not looking at target. Made it a +3 overall in the roll instead of adding/subtracting in the post. If not what you prefer, will adjust in the future.
Edit - was pointed out to me that subsequent rolls are skewed; re-rolled damage and received the same result.
Damage with Javelin of Piercing: [1d6+6] = 6+6 = 12
Test roll in the sandbox provided a different result, so I feel good about this roll.

Day 1– In the complex - 1:30am
End of Round 1
As we enter into melee errant glances are a possibility – not a likely one, but definitely a possibility. Shields and the like aren’t much of a mirror, so it’s still uncertain what you are fighting. Missiles going off now.
After the crossbow bolt pierces its foe, so does a javelin. The hissing louder and more pained. But the javelin seems to lose just that bit of specialness it once had. And though slowed, the creatures continue to advance.
Everyone here’s the hissing and snapping. But (while Eljayess feels one near her) only Freda grunts in pain. 9 hps damage.
Phanstern holds his lantern high, and the others hold their ground.
Ogre and Eljayess can make attacks at this point if they want to use sword and spear. The creatures are in melee. After that then we go into Round 2 and we need new initiative and attacks. Anyone wanna look?
HPs: Elwita - 41/54; Ogre - 20/45; Delgath - 25/25; Karraway - 31/42; Blodgett - 25/25 ; Freda - 39/40; Phanstern - 25/25; Eljayess - 25/25; Kayen - 25/25
WIH: Elwita: war hammer, shield; Ogre: Long sword (20' radius light), shield; Delgath: Staff; Karraway: mace, shield; Blodgett: short sword; Freda: long sword, shield; Phanstern: dagger, lantern; Eljayess: Spear, shield; Kayen: long sword, shield
MO: Blodgett, Elwita, Freda, Ogre, Eljayess, Phanstern, Delgath, Kayen, Karraway
Consumables: Bullseye Lantern (Phanstern) - (1 hour, 57 minutes) 80' radius, 10' wide beam; Torch (none lit, 60 minutes), 40' radius.
--------Spells: Delgath 1-4/4, 2-2/2, 3-1/1: Karraway: 1-5/5, 2-5/5, 3-2/2: Phanstern: 1-4/4, 2-2/2, 3-1/1; Eljayess: 1-3/4, 2-3/3; Kayen: 1-3/3, 2-2/2

Ogre hears the snapping followed by Freda's grunt of pain.
Hearing his comrade get hurt snaps him out of his self pity.
COME TRY ME! He screams at the top of his lungs.
Ogre looks towards the creature while attacking with all his might.
Two attacks this round:
Swing #1:
[1d20] = 18
Swing #2:
[1d20] = 13
With the specialization and strength bonus that give me +3 to hit +5 to damage.
With a long sword here are the damages:
swing #1:
[1d8+5] = 6+5 = 11
swing #2:
[1d8+5] = 3+5 = 8

Eljayess stabs with her spear.
(ooc, not sure of the total bonus/penalty)
[1d20] = 1 to hit
not that it matters.

Day 1– In the complex - 1:30am
End of Round 1
It is negative 4 to hit if you aren't looking. But if you forget that's okay I'll just add in.
While Eljayess curses in frustration at missing with the spear, Ogre feels both of his attacks strike home. The hissing in pain is much louder now from one of the creatures.
We need a new initiative and actions and rolls from everyone. Round 2 will start after those posts.
HPs: Elwita - 41/54; Ogre - 20/45; Delgath - 25/25; Karraway - 31/42; Blodgett - 25/25 ; Freda - 39/40; Phanstern - 25/25; Eljayess - 25/25; Kayen - 25/25

Initiative [1d6] = 5
Freda brings forth her shield and draws her sword. She makes sure to maintain eye contact with the underside of her shield as she swings at the hissing creatures...
To Hit, Melee (THAC017) [1d20] = 3
Obviously she's not very good at blind fighting...

Elwita loudly voices her displeasure at her inability to strike...
+2 War Hammer* (+4/-4): To Hit [1d20] = 6
It quickly dawns on her that, while fighting blindly (perhaps unnecessarily?), that friend and foe alike are at risk of being hit.
Elwita lowers her head and opens her eyes, starring at the floor. She watches the feet of those around her, doing her best to avoid looking more than a few feet above the ground at any time. She understands the risks, but takes comfort in the fact that she'll only knowingly take a swing at an actual opponent, and not a fellow party member.
Besides, maybe she'll recognize the feet of her opponents and be able to tell if these precautions everyone has been taking are necessary after all.

Karraway remains at the door to the hallway, ready to either back up his comrades or lead a retreat, if need be.
He cringes when Ogre screams in battle fury. Must remind him to refrain from such outbursts, lest he alert the entire compound! he thinks to himself. The cleric, still holding his holy symbol and shield, trusts in his faith in Pelor enough to chance a quick glance at the hole to see what exactly they face...

Eljayess hoists her shield and opens her eyes to look at her feet, hoping that she can get some indication that she is not thrusting her spear into a party member, but stabs again.
[1d10] = 8 init, [1d20-3] = 14-3 = 11 to hit [1d6+2] = 3+2 = 5 damage

Day 1– In the complex - 1:31am
Round 3
Here's what we'll do, we'll play anyone who hasn't posted in a while as party NPCs until they can get back to playing. If they don't return in a week or so, we'll recruit some more folks. Any party disagreements on how to move forward, the idea with the most votes wins. Any ties are broken with the DM's dice. This way, if and when they come back, they can just take over. Sound good? I'll try to post again on Wednesday morn. Wherever we are I'll just move us forward as in the above manner, NPCing folks as needed. So everyone should make their actions by Wednesday. I apologize for the stalling of the game, pretty much my fault, and real life, to be honest.
The fighters only get one attack this round (specialization only gives the extra attacks on odd numbered rounds).
The creatures’ initiative is [1d6] = 5 simultaneous action occurs!
Ogre feels a bite on his leg (for 3HPs of damage) by the creature he damaged, it’s hissing getting louder as it’s teeth find flesh past the armor.
Eljayess feels a similar, but more intense, pain. The creature bites her for 9HPs of damage.
Freda and Elwita swing wildly, grunting their frustrations. As Eljayess stabs into nothing.
Blodgett continues his attack, trying not to look at his prey he also misses.
Karraway looks up to see [roll a d20].
If they so desire, Ogre and Kayen (as well as anyone in the back who hasn’t attacked) can attack in Round 3 to finish us out. For Round 4 we’ll need a new group initiative (1d6) and actions and rolls from everyone. Round 4 will be a two attack round for Ogre and Elwita as they are using their specialized weapons. Round 4 will start after everyone posts, or on Wednesday, whichever comes first. Please feel free to proffer suggestions for attacks for players that haven’t posted in a while.

Delgath maneuvers so he can avoid looking at the beast directly he then casts levitation on the beast hoping to pin it face up on the ceiling.

Screaming out in pain, Eljayess stabs again this time at the creature that bite her, then again at her hitting nothing but air.
[1d20-3] = 5-3 = 2 to hit not looking

Initiative for Round 4:
Initiative [1d6] = 3
Freda's attack:
To Hit, Melee (THAC017) [1d20] = 2
(Oh, for Pete's sake... Freda's rolls this entire adventure have been complete crap!)

Elwita, wanting to dispatch of these still unknown opponents as quickly as possible, hoists her war hammer above her head and attempts to land a crushing blow against her foe.
+2 War Hammer*: To Hit [1d20+4] = 8+4 = 12 Fail! Maybe Alethan is rubbing off on her?
Surging with frustration, Elwita quickly re-balances herself and uses the momentum from her first swing to bring upon a second strike, which she believes connects in a glancing blow.
+2 War Hammer*: To Hit [1d20+4] = 12+4 = 16 I assume this is a hit.
+2 War Hammer* (S/M): Damage [1d4+6] = 2+6 = 8 If the creature(s) we're fighting are large, subtract 1 from my damage roll.

She is looking (albeit, keeping her gaze low): "Elwita lowers her head and opens her eyes, starring at the floor. Do the full to-hit penalties still apply?

Day 1– In the complex - 1:32am
Round 4
Continuing to NPC-PCs until they can get back to playing. Please let me know suggestions on attacks (if you want the PC-NPCs to vary from hack-n-slash) for these characters.
Creatures initiative is 2, the party edges them out!
Karraway looks up and PM sent.
Delgath brings the mystical symbols of a spell to his mind.
Phanstern holds the lantern up high.
Freda misses again, more comfortable with bow than sword.
After her first miss, Elwita is able to recover and get in a good strike on the creature she has been battling. Striking home, the creature let’s out a more intense hiss of pain, but it sounds weaker.
Blodgett misses his attack.
We’ll say Kayen attacks with his long sword (only having one javelin left) and unfortunately misses.
Eljayess continues stabbing with her spear and has great luck (reallywith the natural 20 and max damage!) as she feels it stab deep into a creature.
Ogre on the other hand gets in two powerful blows. Causing the pained hiss to stop abruptly and scaley bits to fly through the air onto him and the front line fighters. There's a flump, and of the legs that you have all been intently staring at and using as targets, 8 of them fall to the ground. This causes folks to realize that the other 8 left are likely one creature. The 8 legs that flumped, don't even twitch, they just stop moving and bleed.
Elwita feels jaws clamp down on her leg and takes a massive 1HP of damage.
You had the creature(s) pretty well blocked off from leaving the room, though they could have retreated back into the hole. The front line folks have also, kind of, been protecting Phanstern, Delgath, and to a certain extent Karraway, as there just isn't any more room. At this point, half of the hissing sounds seem to have stopped, and definitely half your enemy seems to be gone. So Elwita and Ogre are in position to attack the creature, random roll will give Freda a chance to attack too. Eljayess using her spear can also attack in Round 5. Blodgett and Kayen will have to move to the rear of the 8 legs to continue to attack.
I think I got everyone. The Dredded one can still cast his spell if he so chooses. For Round 5 we’ll need a new group initiative (1d6) and actions and rolls from everyone. Round 5 will start after everyone posts, or on Monday, whichever comes first. Please feel free to proffer suggestions for attacks for players that haven’t posted in a while. I’m going to wait until Monday to give everyone a chance. I know that folks are just being pulled different directions. We’ve got a pretty active crew; just recent weeks have been slow.
HPs: Elwita - 40/54; Ogre - 17/45; Delgath - 25/25; Karraway - 31/42; Blodgett - 25/25 ; Freda - 39/40; Phanstern - 25/25; Eljayess - 16/25; Kayen - 25/25
WIH: Elwita: war hammer, shield; Ogre: Long sword (20' radius light), shield; Delgath: Staff; Karraway: mace, shield; Blodgett: short sword; Freda: long sword, shield; Phanstern: dagger, lantern; Eljayess: Spear, shield; Kayen: long sword, shield
MO: Blodgett, Elwita, Freda, Ogre, Eljayess, Phanstern, Delgath, Kayen, Karraway
Consumables: Bullseye Lantern (Phanstern) - (1 hour, 54 minutes) 80' radius, 10' wide beam; Torch (none lit, 60 minutes), 40' radius.
--------Spells: Delgath 1-4/4, 2-2/2, 3-1/1: Karraway: 1-5/5, 2-5/5, 3-2/2: Phanstern: 1-4/4, 2-2/2, 3-1/1; Eljayess: 1-3/4, 2-3/3; Kayen: 1-3/3, 2-2/2
