Corvin

"We need to return to the city to sell a few things and get provisions. We can get you some kind of armour and the like, but money will be limited."

Mordred

Mordred smiles at the sight of Astrid away from that terrible place - he nods a greeting ta her from afar, allowing Corvin and the girl some room.

He is caught by surprise by Corvin's suggestion of bringing Astrid along, but he offers no comment apart from raised eyebrows.

Corvin

Corvin catches Mordred's look.

He looks squarely at Astrid "I know your mother taught you well, and some time away will no doubt help you heal, but this will be dangerous."

Astrid's eyes take on a haunted look. "So was hanging by my wrists in the darkest corner of the Kinslayer's shrine."

Her expression firms, and her hand goes to the hilt of her Mother's sword, hanging at her side. The haunted look vanishes, replaced by smoldering determination. "But at least now I can fight back. Mother gave her life to this fight. She would expect no less of me."

Corvin

Corvin looks at Mordred

"Sorry. I didn't plan this, the idea just came to me when we arrived. If you have no problems with the idea?"

Mordred

"I have two concerns" - Mordred looked at them both - "On the one hand, we have been stumbling across some pretty ugly people with dark hearts - our own life was in danger yesterday several times, and we saw our friend Kasper die while we were unable to protect him" - his visage was grim - "On the other, I am concerned violence might not be the best healing environment for you Astrid" - he spoke to her directly - "Even if I understand why you would want to wield your Mother's sword, and live up to her expectations"

The man paused, then added with a smile - "Regardless, I will respect and support you both, whatever your decision"

Corvin

Corvin looks at Astrid "I'm sure Astrid understands how dangerous it might be and won't go and do anything foolhardy, will you?" his voice softens "And I'm not sure being on her own right now will be a good thing for her, either."

Mordred

"She is not alone here Corvin - she is surrounded by life" - Mordred replied - "But if she is coming, I think we will need to get her something better than leather!" - he added in a more lighter tone, with a smile and a wink at Astrid.

"I will heal far better if I have a purpose, if I'm fighting back, than if I sit around here all day thinking about what I lost," says Astrid.

Sebastian and Astrid go to collect Nathan's body and prepare it for burial that evening, while Mordred and Corvin accompany them to the tower to collect the perfumes for selling, and any coins they may have left in the tower. Astrid hesitates a moment outside the tower, then shoots Mordred a defiant glare, and marches inside. Nonetheless, her relief is palpable when they find Nathan's body already laid out on the ground in the kitchen, several priests cleaning it. They will not need to venture back into that dark basement today.

An old cleric seems to be overseeing the efforts. He assures the group that there does not seem to be any lingering necromancy upon the body, and it should be ready for burial within a few hours. He also informs Corvin and Mordred that they did have to remove several books from the laboratory downstairs that were highly illegal, demonic and necromantic rituals. They also took down the skeleton hanging on the wall in the laboratory. The owner of the bones is unknown, but they would be put to rest. The ghouls in the pit were killed. Everything else was untouched, though the old man does encourage the two to have the pit and trapdoor sealed, to protect against accidents. He also hands them a 5gp bounty for recovering the books. While nowhere near as much as the two may have gotten for selling the illegal books, it also means they don't have to try to sell illegal books.

The pair collect the six remaining bottles of perfume, make sure they have the ceramic jar, invisible potion, jeweled bracelet, and set out to do some Shopping. A quick chat with Sebastian confirms that Nina herself sells them for 1 gold each, though they can get more expensive when the Thornwall flowers aren't in season. It doesn't take long to find a potential buyer of the perfume bottles: a merchant preparing to travel to the various outlying villages and towns. He's certain some of the less wealthy noblewomen would love to get their hands on some of the (discounted) Thornwall perfume. 1d20+12 = 26 > 20 The merchant offers to take them for 5 silver each, but the pair manage to haggle him up to 8 silver each, pointing out he can wait a few months until the flowers are out of season before selling them. The merchant acquiesces, and he sort of begrudgingly, mostly happily pays, for 48 silver (4.8 gold).

Next, the pair shops around with various jewelers to get a price for the bracelet. 1d20+12 = 18 < 20 They have a bit of a hard time finding a buyer, most jewelers are (reasonably enough) suspicious that the bracelet might be stolen. There is also something very slightly unsettling about it, as if it still carries some lingering trace of the evil woman who wore it. Still, they manage to sell it for 12 gold.

Now that the treasure has been sold, it's time to partition the coins into shares.

perfumes: 4.8
bracelet: 12
coins: 6 gold + 139 silver (13.9) = 19.9 gold
book bounty: 5 gold
total coins: 47.7 gold.

The pair next swing by the Vault to pay the 30% tax. 47.7 * .3 = 14.31, so the pair owe 14 gold, 3 silver and 1 copper in taxes, leaving them with 33.39 gold, or 33 gold, 3 silver, 9 copper. While paying the taxes, the folks at the Vault offer to hold the group's money for them. It's a 10% fee on each deposit "investments" aren't really a thing, so this isn't a modern bank, but it means that Corvin and Mordred wouldn't have to concern themselves with carrying their coinage, or try to hide it and hope nobody breaks into their home and steals it.

Shares:
33.39/3 = 11.13, 11 gold, 1 silver, 3 copper for each share. So Sebastian and Kasper each get 11.13/2 = 5.56 gold or 5 gold, 5 silver 6 copper while Mordred and Corvin each get 11 gold, 1 silver and 3 coppers.

Xperience:
Will be more than the shares, because you get XP before the 30% tax.

Treasure:
total XP: Total gold was 47.7, so 477 silver. Therefore, 477 XP. There were 3 shares of treasure, so treasure XP is 477/3 = 159 XP. Sebastian and Kasper only get a 1/4 of this (they get 1/2 share of treasure, and only 1/2 of that counts as XP since they're henchmen), so they get 39.75 rounded up to 40 XP.

So, Mordred and Corvin each get 159 XP from treasure. Kasper and Sebastian get 40 XP.

But but but! There were also the 566 copper pieces! You did successfully secure the copper, and I'm not the kind of DM to punish charity, so we're still going to count it for XP, plus a bonus for Good Deeds, for 58.2 XP total.
58.2/3 = 19.4 XP/share, round up to 20 XP/share. Kasper and Sebastian each get 1/4 of that (1/2 share, 1/2 XP for being henchmen), so 5 XP.

So our ACTUAL treasure from XP is:

PC's: 159+20 = 179 XP
Henchmen: 40+5 = 45 XP

Combat:
Sebastian got 74 XP from combat. He got (roughly) half XP, so multiply that by 2 for 148 XP from combat.

grand total XP: 179+148 = 327 XP for Corvin and Mordred. Should be enough for Corvin to level up, and put him well on his way to level 3, while Mordred is about 3/4 of the way to level 2.

Sebastian is at 119/150. Kasper is actually at 178/150 since he got full XP for most of the fights, since he was still a PC then.

Phat Loot (after taxes) and XP totals

Mordred and Corvin: 11 gold, 1 silver, 3 copper
Sebastian and Kasper: 5 gold, 5 silver 6 copper

XP:

Mordred and Corvin: 327
Sebastian and Kasper: Been tracking as I go, plus Kasper's is a little bit weird since he was a PC for almost all of the fights.

Sebastian is sitting at 119/150 XP, while Kasper has 178/150, and will be level 2 once he's recovered and ready to rejoin the group.

Corvin is high enough to hit level 2, while Mordred is 3/4 of the way there.

*whew*

Feel free to ask any follow up questions or point out bad math in the treasure and XP allocations here. All in-universe stuff will continue in a new thread, which will kick off with me detailing prices for things, and you guys confirming what you want to buy to outfit Astrid and start your trip. New thread, Hole in the Thornwall: viewtopic.php?p=724751#p724751

Note that Sebastian told you guys to feel free to use his half-share to help outfit Astrid, and prepare for the journey.

No problem. Didn't want the game to get bogged down in treasure and XP calculation and allocation, so figured I'd take care of all that in one fell swoop.

And yeah 4k (or 400 in our case) XP is brutal. You got access to the best weapons and armor *and* the best spells in the game. You need to be hurting somewhere!
