Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
"maybe so, still the golden couch must be worth something if we can get it out of here. Cash in the goodies and return equipped with a few extra bodies as cannon fodder for the next level of tricks and traps?"McCloud will offer,"though we know of no way out yet so forward might be the only way to go?"
Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
"I agree. Forward is our best option."
Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
Mond can Quinn take a look at the scroll Skarlos passed him (see earlier post) as I would like to confirm its for mages
Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
OOC: I thought that he tried already. Probably means they are MU spells.Zhym wrote:Quinn can't read the arcane scroll.
Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
Quinn and Skarlos ponder the nature of the scroll they can't decipher. Urdak seems to have overcome his need to investigate the crown that McCloud appropriated for himself. So you move on.
You retrace your steps back through the laboratory and into the passage beyond. You descend a set of stairs. Around a corner, a corridor lies before you. The other end disappears in the shadows beyond the reach of your light. Before you, your progress is blocked by an open pit filled with spikes. The pit completely fills the passageway and extends 30' from one end to the other.
Status: Skarlos (C10): 51/56; Urdak (Dwarf F10): 71/75; McCloud (F6/MU6/T10): 20/40; Quinn (B13(F7/T8)): 68/78

Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
"with a running jump I can make it across probably" McCloud says, "clicking the heels of his boots, other than that McSpider climb will have to do."
Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
Carl Lewis, wearing only track clothes, never (officially) jumped farther than 29' 1¼" in his life. There is no way that any of you could jump over this pit, especially while carrying gear.
Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
yeah but Carl and Bob Beamon never cheated with boots of jumping....I can make it 30ft but not a controlled landing...just my luck to hit a headwind and better Carl but still fall short and as my wife tells me, that extra 1/2 inch could make all the difference!
McCloud will edge forward to examine the pit and leaving his pack save for rope and spikes, cast 'Spider Climb' to get to the other side., "here Urdak old fella, hold this for me until I come back, hate for it to fall into the pit!", passing crown to stouty dwarf.

Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
Ooooo, the Dwarf's eyes begin to shine again. Sparklies! He will give the gems a hardy inspection while McCloud does his thing.
Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
"Please check the floor the other side carefully friend McCloud as this is the first uncovered pit we have found. If I were a betting man I would say the sneakiest approach is to put a covered pit right behind the obvious one isn't it? Plus I want you to come back to check this scroll!"
Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
McCloud takes rope and spikes out of his pack and sets the pack on the ground. He takes off his boots and puts them in his pack. Then he hands the crown to Urdak, who eagerly beings appraising it. Urdak determines that the gems in the crown would be valued at about 20,000 gold. As a unit, the crown is worth about 25,000 gold.
McCloud pulls a bit of bitumen and a live spider from his robe and eats them both. He starts climbing the wall like a spider, sidling along the wall near the pit then dropping back to the tomb floor on the other side.
The end of the corridor still extends past McCloud's light.

Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
"how does it look over there? To make full use of the spell are you able to traverse the wall whilst checking the floor for pits do you think?"
Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
Quinn waits, giving his companion sufficient time to check the area on the far side for traps.
Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
'McSpider' goes scuttling away. What was the plan for the rope...was thinking that I would simply hammer a ringed-spike in the ceiling every 10ft along the northern wall and then perhaps spike in another rope about 4'8" below that to create a rope bridge that we could edge nervously across, hand and feet, and hope someone doesn't wobble and fall off. |Once free of the pit McCloud will continue down the corridor, checking for extra pit traps along the way.
Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
McSpider scuttles along the wall, hammering spikes into the ceiling and the wall near the ceiling and tying ropes to them to make a rope bridge. He then starts checking for pits. Two minutes after finishing the rope bridge, he drops to the floor with a "plop."
Moving forward a bit, he spies something at what appears to be the end of the tunnel: a small figure, seemingly motionless. It's hard to tell what it is from this distance.

Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
Quinn will climb the walls on the side of the pit to join McCloud on the far side.
OOC: [1d100] = 23 Climb walls chance 96%

Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
Quinn reaches the other side.
Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
McCloud will approach the figure quickly, longsword drawn and doing a 'loop de loop' up walls and ceilings to corkscrew down the corridor for added effect!"Hey you, stand and reveal yourself or.....or else" McCloud will challenge menancingly.
Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
As McCloud approaches the figure, Quinn strums a soft tune on his lute. The bard is prepared to activate his lute if necessary.
OOC: Chances it is a trap....

Re: Ch. 3: Further Into the Tomb
Quinn's suspicions prove prescient. McCloud's run down the corridor (spider climb has expired) is suddenly halted when he comes within 20' of its end. He stands absolutely still, as if frozen in mid-stride.
