"Man can be that which he wishes to be; form and substance, they are but shadows. The mind, the ego, the essence of the god-dream -- that is real, that is immortal." -Robert E. Howard

I love me some Frazetta.
Is the wind still blowing?

Yes, for everyone north of Dahinna. If she moves any further north, her torch will fail.

Hey everyone,
Sorry for the delay. I should be able to post tomorrow.

Again, apologies for the delay. Thanks for your patience. New DM post is up.
Re: But Shadows (ooc and questions Vl)
With his keen barbarian ears, does Cruloc hear footsteps approaching his position?
Re: But Shadows (ooc and questions Vl)
Hi Yrkoon!
There's suddenly a lot of noise in this echoing stone chamber. And improved hearing isn't a class ability of Barbarians. But Howard's keen-eared Cimmerian seems to have inspired a class ability that makes it harder to Surprise a Barbarian. If it becomes appropriate to this situation, I'll employ those rules.
In the meantime, Humans have a 10% chance to 'hear noise' (listening at doors, really). You can try that before you post your action.

(Not sure she can do all of that in one round, but here is her attack roll just in case:
Hi hedge!
Please join me over here in Rules-Talk Corner.
To pull this off, Dahinna will have to Charge. (which would also give a +2 to hit, and a +2 to be hit). But to do so, she will need to see her target at the beginning of her action. She's currently got tunnel vision (see map below) and right now, no visible enemy stands between her and the statue (X1), which is her line of sight.
So, if the Party wins or ties initiative, she can't attack this round.
But if the Party loses initiative, AND a monster wanders into view, then she will Charge it. Thanks.

Re: But Shadows (ooc and questions Vl)
Well, I was going to try to draw a few back down the passageway toward where Dahinna was holding her torch so that Amethu and Cruloc could fight side-by-side in the light, but now that Dahinna has blown past us in her charge (and presumably lost her torch), I don't know what to do. She could easily run into 6 undead soldiers and be surrounded before reaching the lit area.
What does Amethu want to do? Shall we go forward or back? We need light to fight.
I think staying where we are or moving back would make the most tactical sense, assuming some of them do follow us. That way, we could keep them in front of us. Being surrounded in the dark is not good. I think we could thin their ranks a bit before committing to a charge toward our companions.

Don't worry. If Amethu has Turned any, they might be heading your way soon ...
Re: But Shadows (ooc and questions Vl)
Hey everyone,
I have to travel for work this week. I'll be offline til Friday. Sorry. Cliffhangers are apropos for the genre.
Urson and Yrkoon still need to post. If you have any remaining questions, please post if/then orders to hasten my next DM post upon my return. Thanks.
Have a great week everyone.

This is a tough one.
If Cruloc moves forward and the party loses initiative, he will be attacked from all sides in the dark. Blind and surrounded. This is a circumstance any experienced fighter would seek to avoid.

If he can get Dahinna's attention, she'll stand with him; she has a torch.
Winter is coming...
Re: But Shadows (ooc and questions Vl)
If Dahinna moves any further north in the hallway, as I understand it, her torch will go out. Cruloc (and Amethu, if he agrees to be pulled), will have to move further south to find light.
I believe Dahinna was already at the northernmost limit of the area where a torch would remain lit. Cruloc didn't imagine she would charge north. He might stop her from running past him (if he can hear her above the din - he certainly cannot see her), but he cannot stop her from taking that fateful step forward which would extinguish her torch.

Amethu is good to fall back to the light if we aren't leaving the others to a dismal fate.
Re: But Shadows (ooc and questions Vl)
Hmm... Torix may be cut off. If I were him, I'd stay with the others. You're in a good position where you are. There are more undead in the dark area between Torix and Cruloc.
Re: But Shadows (ooc and questions Vl)
I see that I've overlooked this:
"The windstorm instantly dies as secret doors yawn wide all around them,..."
I had been thinking that the wind was still blowing when I made my post. I'll amend it.
Dahinna moving forward with her light and us (Cruloc and Amethu) holding our position at the northern end of the hallway works for now.
Apologies for my carelessness.
If Dahinna drops her torch, we'll be back to fighting in the dark.
