I’m going to need specific questions

The savvy thief, practiced at reading the disposition of a crowd, selects his targets for the evening. If he spots any unaccompanied ladies, he will try his luck striking up conversation and gently ply them for information about the town and occupants, current happenings and people of note. Failing that, he'll seek anyone, male or female, who seems down on their luck and nursing a drink alone. His swindler's senses are on full alert.
If no such patrons are present, the polished rogue simply reclines and watches the raucous scene play out.

Oswell
Oswell will try to get some information on the town. Asking questions similar to "Are there any places in town for travelers to purchase food and supplies?"

Neddard starts to get frustrated.
He moves towards the wealthiest looking patron he sees and starts asking very specific questions.
"Hello. What can you tell me about Arden Vul?"
"Ever hear of any koblod nests in that area?"
"Have you ever heard about giant skeletons or a mage named Kerbog Khan?"

The thief grabs the attention of a pretty if a little plump strumpet who had been carousing with a table of drovers, taking her by the arm and taking her to a shadowed corner. But she proves to be a jaded figure immune to his guiled tongue, if not appreciative of his attentions. "Honey, my time is money," she purrs, her eyes playful.Paladin wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 2:06 am Christopher Black

Oswell is told food and some items can be found at the town's open market. For more nuanced equipment and supplies, there's a shop run by a dwarf by the name Brumm Understone. His prices are fair and he's known to be honest.

"Thanks, very good. Just what I needed." He finishes his food and drink, enjoying every bit.
"Now I can get down to some business. Where do we find some Kobolds around here?"

The wealthiest looking patron is a man dressed in the manner of a successful merchant, his fingers bedecked with rings festooned with gems. He's not sure how to react to a man of Neddard's ilk; a Fist of Mitra. But he's genial and open to answer the paladin's questions well enough.OGRE MAGE wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 6:12 pm Neddard starts to get frustrated.

"Arden Vul? Well, the ancient city sit atop a 1,500 foot cliff at the north end of Burdock's Valley. It's been a magnet for adventurers since as long I can remember. Tales of vaults overflowing with gold, legendary artifacts of wonderous power and long hidden sources of priceless information dwell within. Yet I've heard of dark forces and frightening beasts and abominations await those who dare enter its halls."
"Kobolds, filthy little things! The buggers never fight fair as I've often heard swordsmen tell. Rumor has a tribe of them hide past then north bank of the Long Run, just halfway between here and Glosterwick. I wish those Azure Knights of the Green lady would just do something about them."
"Kerbog Khan? Never heard of him. Giant skeletons? Phaw, never heard of such a thing."
Re: Burdock's Valley
Zahn will look for a hunter /trapper / woodsman type and ask if there is game between here and Glosterwick. He will also ask if Kobolds are a problem and if so what has been heard of their tactics.

Gorug utters, "I'll visit Brumm the dwarf and pick up more food if we need it. Might be a bit of walk to that City"

Neddard buys the merchant his next drink.
"You are merchant of some stature. Do you have anything special or specific to sell that a young adventurous sort might have the coin to buy?"

Zahn (to the group):
How do you all feel about working as merchant guards/scouts? Assuming one is heading our way tomorrow...

The rogue chuckles and pats his empty purse with a self-conscious grin. "Well, love. Far be it from me to stand in the way of a lady earning her coin." He winks. "Especially one so lovely." He'll pat her arm and join Zahn in time to catch his question regarding merchants. "Any work is good work for a man of limited means," he says cheerfully.

Re: Burdock's Valley
Finnr sates his appetite.
Zahn finds a fur trapper named Dunnert and he reveals there is game between Deepton and Glosterwick; deer, wild pig, rabbit and fowl. As for kobolds, Dunnert says they leave armed caravans alone, preferring to ambush solitary travelers or small groups along the road. Its not unusual for them to steal livestock from farmsteads at night.
Gorug mentions out loud that he's going to visit Brumm for more food/rations.
The merchant Neddard is talking to says that no, he has nothing to offer, that he sells and buys mining equipment.
The rogue Black strikes out with a soiled dove, not having the coin to barter for information nor a joining of fleshly pleasure.
Several have expressed interest in hiring out as guards for merchants travelling to Glosterwick. The merchant Neddard has been talking to reveals he has bought a load of silver ore and needs a few stalwart men to escort the freight wagon to Glosterwick. 2 silver a day with a bonus for each upon the wagon's safe arrival at Glosterwick. Plus 1 gold for the head of each bandit, kobold, or anything that tries to interfere with his load of iron ore from being delivered, the bounty being paid by the Green Lady herself.
Actions?

Neddard calls his available friends around but rises an eyebrow at the suggested offer.
"2 silver? Are you joking?" The paladin points out the man's rings and finery before tapping the Fist emblem on his armor, looking sideways at the merchant.
"I have a group of adventurous types that would fit your need as guards, but not for that price. We aren't some roving band of farm kids, we are professionals. If you want us, and you want your ore delivered on time, the fee will be 2 gold per day."
