Re: Chapter 01: Not like any pub you remember
Korin if able to do so safely hurls a throwing axe at the bald man with the mace.
Init Roll/ Surprise Roll [1d6] = 4
Hand/Throwing Axe [1d20 +1] = 15+1 = 16 to hit [1d6 +3] = 4+3 = 7 s/m dmg

Re: Chapter 01: Not like any pub you remember
Tiny hears the commotion behind him, stops backing up and holds his ground. The male warrior facing him is wearing what looks like a tunic made out of lizard man skin. It seems sticky.
Shouting religious threats, Eaton makes a dash towards the hooded mumbler, attempting a rope trick repeat. He doesn't get far though, as Tiny and his giant sword are blocking the way.
Thorelf's dagger whizzes past the hooded man and lodges itself in the door behind the attackers. And (still hungover?) Korin reaches for his trusted throwing axe only to remember that it was gone when he woke up today.
Undaunted by Eaton's threats, the male warrior growls back: "Oh yeah ? Uthgar Shmuthgar! And I sharpened this sword with my tongue, pretty eye-lash boy. Take that!" he strikes in Eaton's direction, but it is Tiny who is in the line of fire:
Sword, long: to hit [1d20] = 4, Damage S/M [1d8] = 5 L [1d12] = 5
His blood-spattered companion joins in and is more successful:
Sword, long: to hit [1d20] = 19, Damage S/M [1d8] = 4 L [1d12] = 12 Tiny takes 4
but the hooded mystic lost his focus and does not chant anything more just now, his ruddy complexion fuming. Thorelf's dagger seems to have fulfilled its purpose.
A fourth, shorter and youngish figure can now be seen in the doorway behind the three attackers, darting around evasively, while sniffling loudly.
Player side roll for initiative! (1 roll is enough)

[1d6] = 5
That's 1d6, right? And do we add like highest modifier for group or something?
Anyway, there's the roll.

Re: Chapter 01: Not like any pub you remember
It was a long sword. In 1e a fighter is -2 to hit with a non-proficient weapon and a thief is -3.
Re: Chapter 01: Not like any pub you remember
Theives are proficient with long sword in AD&D!
Re: Chapter 01: Not like any pub you remember
Thieves can be proficient with Long Swords, but in 1e no one is proficient with any weapon by default. Korin is a 2nd level fighter/thief so is proficient with 3 weapons from the list of weapons he can be proficient in, he can use any other weapon since he is a fighter but is -2 with them. We could of course be playing with a house rule on it, but that is what the rules for 1e are. Since the dice roller is down at the moment I can't look at what Korin is proficient in but my guess is not Long Sword.
Re: Chapter 01: Not like any pub you remember
Will wait for GM before posting actions for Thorelf (because they depend on what happens with Korin).

Thanks all for input; I go by the definition in the PHB p37 "WEAPON PROFICIENCY TABLE" where different classes have different proficiency 'slots' per level = a "number [of weapons] which the character may select to be proficient with". A thief starts with 2 weapon proficiencies at level 1 etc.Thieves can be proficient with Long Swords, but in 1e no one is proficient with any weapon by default. Korin is a 2nd level fighter/thief so is proficient with 3 weapons from the list of weapons he can be proficient in, he can use any other weapon since he is a fighter but is -2 with them. Sastaz possibly means that thieves are allowed a long sword in 1e, which is totally correct - but it differs from proficiency.
As for "in 1e no one is proficient with any weapon by default" - indeed, technically an active selection must have been made. Seeing as none of us have ever raised the topic (my bad!), for the current 4 adventurers I would suggest this to mean proficiency "with the weapon(s) the character picked the first time the character sheet was written", i e:
* in Korin's case when the adventure The Pits of Wob started
* in Thorelf's when he entered the game Minn's Mound
* in Eaton's case the weapon(s) gone when he woke up in the cell
* in Tiny's case the weapon(s) gone when he woke up in the cell
If you don't agree to this and want to change proficiencies, welcome to do so - now, by stating so. Later, changes won't be possible and I'll assume the first weapon(s) you selected are those you chose to be proficient with.
In such a case, in both his classes, Korin would be allowed to use a long sword. But as it had not been with him 'from the start', he would not (yet) be proficient with it, resulting in the non-proficiency penalty that Rex correctly describes.
Back in the game, the frothy-mouthed baddies lose the initiative.
Adversary d6 roll [1d6]=3
Tiny has already stated his action. All ye others, declare !

Re: Chapter 01: Not like any pub you remember
Korin tries to attack the same target if he can get to them using the sword he has.
Longsword [1d20-2]=13-2=11 to hit [1d6]=4 dmg

Re: Chapter 01: Not like any pub you remember
As an aside, I do seem to remember I did pick two proficiencies, and that they should be on Thorelf's character sheet. If I recall dagger and short bow. But now back to the game.
Re: Chapter 01: Not like any pub you remember
As now his three companions has joined melee Thorelf will try to circle around the battle, along the walls, to fetch his dagger lodged into the door, or see if there's any weapon on/near the decapitated enemy body killed by Tiny that can be fetched. Whichever one option seems easier/quicker. If there's any danger (i.e. he has to go near en enemy enough for him to hit Thorelf) he won't do it, just stay put instead.
Re: Chapter 01: Not like any pub you remember
Eaton
Takes two steps back. Then talks to the bald man.
You imbecile. You have profane the gods. They will now give us power beyond what you can imagine and then we will punish you.
Eatons eyes turn darker and he starts to chant.

Re: Chapter 01: Not like any pub you remember
swings his sword again but even his otherworldly strength is of little help this time. He misses.
Korin
stuck at the back of the narrow passage opening, cannot (yet) try out his skills as a swordsman. His attempt is foiled.
Thorelf
hatches an elaborate circumvention tactic but as the foes have the party blocked in, walking past them would practically mean walking right into them, so he decides not to.
Eaton
fiercely attempts to intimidate the attackers, then starts channeling some mystic force.
Despite his menacing outburst, the guards fight on.
The male warrior emits an unsavoury "Whuuurgh" and once more brings down his sword on Tiny:
Sword, long: to hit [1d20]=3, Damage S/M [1d8]=4 L [1d12]=2
but it sails past the half-orc and hits the floor, in a shower of sparks.
The female now goes for Eaton
Sword, long: to hit [1d20]=11, Damage S/M [1d8]=5 L [1d12]=2
but hits the wall instead. She shrieks with frustration.
The hooded guy reaches for his mace but is not ready to wield it yet.
And the fourth smaller figure still hovers in the background.
For next melee round, please roll 1d6 initiative ! (once)

Thorelf backs down, letting Korin through to the frontline.
"Get 'em Korin!"
