Re: Expedition - Orrin/Logging - 21 April, 1 VC
Remus never said he was looking to hunt the centaur, thus never threatening him. Even said he was not on his list multiple times. But whatevs.
Remus waits with the group while Lug goes off. He looks quite bored.

That's not exactly reassuring."[Y]ou aren't on my list quite yet."

Not a threat either though, just a statementZhym wrote:That's not exactly reassuring."[Y]ou aren't on my list quite yet."

But you can see where it might be taken as a veiled threat, right?

Of course, I'm not saying peoples thoughts are unjustified, just that Remus never actually did the deed that he was accused of. He simply spoke the blatant truth, the centaur may or may not ever be put onto that list, Remus gave him an out but he didn't take it.Zhym wrote:But you can see where it might be taken as a veiled threat, right?

Sometimes all you need to do is suggest a thing and it gains a life of its own...

April 21, 1 VC - 6:30pm
Lug takes some time to fashion a simple egg cradle from a loaned pouch packed with dirt and leaves to soften the interior, stuffs it in his mouth, and starts his bare-handed ascent of the tree. It is a relatively easy climb for someone in his condition, not to mention his tremendous height offering him an easy selection of hand-holds and perches (see! you just had to wait). After a few minutes, he reaches the upper branches of the tree and spies the nest. He's reached the point at which the tree trunk is actually narrow enough that it's begun to bend and sway under his weight, and the nest is still about six feet outside the reach of his arms. Lug takes a moment to collect his thoughts and is impressed by the dim view of the Finger of Doom catching a few scant rays of sun through the rain off in the east, painted a faint orange by the sunset. If the place weren't reputedly infested with goblins, it might be an impressive and beautiful sight.

Jem backs up as Lug climbs higher. He watches the grove at ground level in all directions as everyone else stares up to the sky. He gets within earshot of Xavro and speaks.
I speak the truth when I tell you that, although I myself have just joined up with this group, they have done nothing so far that I would consider bad.
In fact, they just parted ways with 3 members of a former alliance that were doing questionable things and carrying an evil allinged sword around with them. A rather unsavory lot they were. Two elves and a halfling if you can even believe that.

Xavro looks over at Jem in surprise. "Indeed? I would hear more of this at a later time, when your friend is not in such peril."

Jem shouts up to the giant man in the tree.
Come on Lug! You got this no problem!

My intention was that the pouch would be handing from his mouth, with his mouth just clamping down on the very top of the pouch to hold it.Keehnelf wrote:stuffs it in his mouth
Is it still possible (if risky) to climb to the nest, or is he as close to it as it's possible for him to get?
Re: Expedition - Orrin/Logging - 21 April, 1 VC
Yeah, stuffing was just short-hand.
And yes, it is still possible to climb higher, just riskier than the climb so far.

Lug carefully keeps climbing to the nest, as long as his effect on the tree doesn't seem like it would risk dislodging the nest.

Orrin was about to shout some encouragement.

Re: Expedition - Orrin/Logging - 21 April, 1 VC
I don't suppose anyone's going to try to catch him...
Re: Expedition - Orrin/Logging - 21 April, 1 VC
Lug begins to haul himself up the tree, hand over hand, inching closer to the nest. The trunk bends and sways, but he's smart enough to approach from the side of the tree on which the nest is so that the branches supporting it stay in place. A hand's-breadth shy of the nest, one of the smaller branches twists under his grip and he begins to slip. Grasping suddenly at another branch to the side to steady himself, he unbalances the bed of branches on which the nest is lying, dislodging it from the branches, and it begins to fall toward the lower branches, and toward the ground sixty feet below.
What will Lug do?
What will Lug do?
Re: Expedition - Orrin/Logging - 21 April, 1 VC
Is Lug in a position to catch the nest? Or is he close enough to hold it in place?
Re: Expedition - Orrin/Logging - 21 April, 1 VC
Lug would probably have to let go with both hands to catch the nest.
