Out of the temple
Out of the temple
You grab the box and trudge through the dead part of the forest, everyone's nerves are on edge and you jump at every sound. The pull of the gem weighs on everyone and even as you leave the dying section of the forest into living trees and brush you hear no animal, no bird, no insect.
The trek takes you the full day but eventually moony is able to successfully lead you out of the forest the same place where you entered. A short distance ahead you see a makeshift tent and fire.

Good job, Mooney, I could not have found my way out of there myself. Perhaps the tent is our guide Deiter ahead there? Ruthgar will make his way toward the test.

As you approach you see a dusty plain clothed bearded man with a bow come form the tent, sure enough it is dilbert. he has waited for your return.
He waves as you approach
Hail, I see you live still

Ruthgar:
Ho, Dilbert! Ja, barely live at that.... I am sorry to report that your friend is not with us anymore. I am sorry my son. We found what can be best described as a temple of evil in the forest. The denizens of the temple snuffed out his life.
Ruthgar will put down the box Moony and himself have been schlepping.
We need rest for the eve, in the morn we need to make our way back to the town with haste. Is there a fair and just aligned church or temple in the town?
Ruthgar will sit down to rest.
Oh, I forgot to mention, there is a good chance we will be attacked when the sun sets....
Ruthgar produces his "Skin, extreme alcohol (110 proof)" and takes a single swig, offers it around to the others.

Dilbert looks down at the news
His poor wife and child they will have no way to support themselves now, well there is a small shrine to rongo, Preist Fredrick is a good man, but I don;t know if he could handle something like an evil temple.
At the news of an evil and that you will be attacked a look of fear crosses his face.
what... what kind of evil... attacked by what

I'll see some light comes to his family.... uh, not sure whats going to happen at sunset but we shook a proverbial bees nest back in that forest. Bless Tyr, most undead are fairly slow. Let's hope for the best.

dilbert's face goes pale white, he starts gathering wood setting up a number of firepits around the camp.

Phil will help Dilbert set up fire pits and walk the field around the tent, looking for any dips in the ground where an enemy might sneak up from in the dark.

Allan will see what he can do about setting up some trip wires where something would likely approach from the evil temple.

Re: Out of the temple
Everyone on edge you bed down for the evening, multiple fires lit around the camp site in a circle you all huddle together.
Allan is on watch, looking over his shoulders and squirming in expectation.

Re: Out of the temple
Allan watches the dark forest. He takes time when it’s quiet to also think of what extra weapon training he can do to improve for his next outing. The staff is not working for him as he had previously trained for....

Re: Out of the temple
Allan watches restlessly when he suddenly notices the slight glow of the gem leaking form under the box lid begins to pulse faster. Then he feels a rumble under the earth, directly underneath him.
Instincts taking over Allan dives to the side and rolls just as the ground underneath him erupts!
A horrid beast bursts from the ground stretching 15' in the air. It sends earth and pieces of the central fire flying across the camp.
Allan stares in horror at it's visage and wonders how it can even be alive. part of it's skull seems to be missing, and it has empty sockets where it's eyes should be. pieces of it's body seems to be rotting yet it moves and prepares to attack.
The roll of 1 allowed you to not take any damage this round
the flying debris wakes everyone, however no one is armored. If you want to put on armor it will take 2 rounds. please state your actions

Re: Out of the temple
Phil grabs his spear and shield and rushes to battle the creature, which at least appears to be normal flesh and blood.
init [1d10] = 7 Spear Hit [1d20+1] = 14+1 = 15 Spear Damage - Large [1d8+1] = 2+1 = 3
Assumed 17 str... If 16, to hit would be 14
EDIT: to hit=16, damage=6
