Setting Information

The game will take place on Blackwell Island, a skinny island in the middle of the East River, in New York City.

The island is crossed by the gigantic Queensboro Bridge, about 100 feet above the island. The bridge, built about 10 years ago, carries trains and cars between Manhattan and Queens. The trolley that runs across the bridge stops in the center, where elevators and stairs run down to the island.

South of the bridge is Blackwell Penitentiary, a large castle-like structure with several cell blocks, dedicated to housing the city's hardened criminals.

South of the penitentiary is the old smallpox hospital, partially abandoned, and now converted to serve the prison population, and the prison dock, where new arrivals are processed.

To the north of the bridge, there are several other institutions. First, there is the Almshouse, where the city's indigent are housed. Beyond that, the Workhouse, where criminals convicted of lesser crimes are housed. Beyond that is the Lunatic Asylum, where the city's madmen and lunatics are housed.

As Penitentiary guards, you live at the prison, and most of your life takes place here on the the place its residents call "Damnation Island".
