Personae

#1 Post by tibbius »

Here is a quick summary of the player characters:

Bran (Leitz) is physically and mentally gifted, and makes a strong impression on everyone he encounters. He works sometimes as a mason, but mainly as a carpenter, and venerates the gods by his daily actions and dealing with others. He is well-respected. Professional.

Andrew (cybersavant) is of average physique and intelligence, but gifted with a strong will and impressive personality. He is a professional servant of the gods. Caster.

Alexander (rossik) was average in every way. But he is devoted to learning and maintains and catalogues the village's partly ruined library of scrolls. Visiting scholars consult his knowledge of the collection. Caster. He disappeared during the night in Elaionas.

Marcus Nine-toes (Mr Stereo1) is exceptionally strong, tough, and agile. His intellect is neither impressive nor impoverished. He generally deals well with others and leaves no strong impression, favorable or unfavorable and has developed a skill for persuading others to his view. Fighter.

a backup character is a bit scrawny and clumsy, of average intelligence, and makes neither a good nor an ill impression on others.

Please post your characters' backstories etc. below.

As a boy, Bran, helped his stone mason father and grandfather move tools and dirt to build great things. Strong things. Bran himself grew up a little taller than the local average, and a little stronger. His hair was a little blacker, and his skin stayed a little more tanned, year round. Spending time with builders gave him the rudiments of crafting and shaping, as well as the maths and thinking that goes into creating larger buildings and smaller cities. While stone speaks to him seldom, wood seemed to be his calling. For his adult day ceremony, Grandfather presented Bran with a simple set of quality carpenter's tools.

Bran was a little different.

Maybe not so different, though. Grandfather often talked of his home. A town/village/city (it grew and shrunk with the telling) in Anatolia, along the eastern sea, that was overtaken by plague/monsters/dragons/bad luck (depending on what Bran wanted to hear about that evening). What always stayed the same was the ruin; home was a lost city full of promise, stories, and need. It was Grandfather's dream to return home and rebuild. To make strong buildings for good people, and warm hearths for good families.

What is "good"?

Bran found answers in faith, over time. Priests, wandering monks, and others who espoused some vision of glory or another would often pass through and speak loudly to whomever was alive. Bran saw them as idiots. Loud, yet idiots nonetheless. There was one who was different. Who merely called himself "a devout", and stayed an entire winter. He helped harvest food and claimed nothing that was not earned, or freely given. He split wood for the elderly, tended the ill, and showed the younglings just how good one can get with a snowball.

He entranced Bran. The man served, and built, like Bran's own family. Yet there was more than just dream to his work, there was purpose. To change for the better. Life was good at home, Bran knew. But it was also staid. He was not called to be average; to earn money, produce children, and be buried alongside everyone else. Bran absorbed the basic tenets of the faith; "do good, work hard, love life, commit to greatness". More than that, Bran's own woodwork lived the tenets: he would fix doors for those who could not pay. His craftsmanship solved problems that had been going on forever. A well cut piece of wood, and a levered corner, kept a widow's home from sagging. When Bran's duty was to be in the militia, he served and led well. Some thought he was born to be a military leader, but Bran set aside the duties of leadership as easily as he had taken them on.

People liked Bran before he became a devout. Now their lives are better, as well. It is a good time.

But Grandfather's home still calls...

Adulthood at age 12 for his parent's culture. Bran's family moved "here" a couple of generations ago. They work hard, are respected, and while "different", are a part of the community.

Bran - the Drum (Inspires others), the Heart (Cares for others), the Hammer (Builder), Back (Hard Worker), Spear (Militia - 1d6)

Your character is of average physique and intelligence, but gifted with a strong will and impressive personality. They would be best suited as a caster.

eye, head, brush, amulet

Andrew was born weak and sickly; barely surviving into childhood. His parents told him it must have been the will of the gods that he lived. Born the third son of six children to poor existence farmers on the island of Thira, he was sent to the be an apprentice at the temple on Mount Kynthos, on the central isle of Delos.

While growing into manhood, Andrew learned to read and write, and his aptitudes lay less in physical areas and more in spiritual ones. He excelled under the tutelage of the priests and priestesses , becoming adept in fields such as scribing/writing, sculpting, chanting and boating.

His superiors regularly scheduled him to man the temple stall in the market place, where he would peddle his own white marble carvings along with those of the temple proper. The priests also sent him to chant in the marble theater during secular performances as well as during religious ceremonies.

Andrew, as part of a religious delegation, finds himself in the city state of Aegium to take part in a ceremony of minor importance.
