The goal of locating Jane is reaffirmed by the all in the group to be the priority. Before all is said and done here in this town, however, Alexa, fearing the worst, does intend to find any details she can about the "misplaced" dagger from her father.

Unna attempts to capture the attention of a nearby local -- a middle-aged, raven-haired human woman wrapped in worn brown robes -- but the dwarf's initial efforts are ignored; deliberately by all indications. The raven-haired local instinctively but noticeably turns their head in the opposite direction of Unna's voice and hastens their pace slightly as she cinches her robes more tightly around herself and hurriedly makes her way into the nearest structure (R3) a ramshackle cottage. A second local -- a teenaged male with moppy auburn hair and a face full of freckles mostly concealed under a layer of grime -- chuckles after witnessing the slight. "That one --" he says, indicating the newly-hastened woman with a slight jerk of his head. "-- don't trust no one."

"If'n you lookin' for August, his farm be right there." he says, pointing just up the path where the party is presently located ("x") towards the rickety, two-story wooden structure (R8) with a large area of crops behind it.

"August be the big one, with bushy blonde hair and beard." the lad says before scurrying off ahead of the group, in the direction of the farm, before deviating off the path and disappearing into another wooden cottage in poor condition just off to the left, or west.

Beyond the teens' house, the path veers to the right and begins heading east. August and his farm are just to the left, or north, after the bend in the path.


Approaching the farm, August is easy enough to spot based on what the kid said. The large, bulky man carries a wooden hoe and is working in a patch of turnips when the party arrives.

"I help you?" the man says, in a calm but gruff voice, as he wipes sweat on his forehead with his thick forearm.

"Hi, are you August? We are looking for Jane, Helmaer sent us to you. He thought you might have some knowledge of where she is or how long ago she passed this way. She is missing and Helmaer has asked us to find her."

Nexus waits beside the dwarf, attempting to look mystical and listening intently. He will scan the farm for any dangers but keep most of his attention fixed on August the farmer.

Jaroo's attention is on the farmer's turnips. They would be a nice change to what he has been eating the past few days and he's running low on stores. Maybe the farmer would sell some of his turnips?

Roderick takes in the poverty-stricken conditions of the town with a mixture of compassion and dismay. He tries to think of some way he can help these people.

He lets Unna take the lead, interjecting with his support when and if needed.

Mister August, Would you be interested in selling say 15 of those turnips? I would like to purchase them if you are selling. My comrades and I have been on the road for several days and I was hoping to get the cook at the local inn to cook them up for us in a stew or Soup. I will pay what you are asking not a problem.

Alexa winks at Jaroo while rubbing her stomach.

"Hi, are you August?" Unna queries the formidable farmer. "Aye," the man confirms, reaching his hand out and greeting the dwarf with a bone-crushing handshake.

Before the group dives into the subject of the missing girl, Alexa inquires about the availability of August's turnips. "Here," he says, lifting one of a stack of burlap sacks piled behind him a short distance. "Freshly harvested this morning," he boasts, passing the sack to the elven woman. "No charge."


The conversation takes a more serious turn once Unna shares that the group was sent under Helmaer's direction. "We're looking for Jane." the dwarf adds.

"Ah, the girl," August bellows. "Ain't seen her..." he pauses, starring up and counting on his fingers as he performs a mental calculation. "... it must've been 10 nights ago."


"Wait... Helmaer sent you? And you're looking for the girl? If Helmaer don't know where she is..." His voice trails off as the giant man continues to process and consider the situation. "I do know Helmaer occasionally sends the girl to the stream, to look for herbs and plants. Maybe she stopped there to gather a fresh supply?"

"I could lead you there, if you'd like."

Roderick grows excited as he does some quick math in his head. "You saw Jane ten nights ago? That would have been the 21st of Quintillis? She was last seen retiring to her room in Red Larch the night of 18 Quintillis! If those dates are correct, then you have seen her more recently than anyone we have yet spoken to! This is encouraging news! Tell me, had she recently arrived from the southwest? Did she seem rushed, or ill at ease, or otherwise out of the ordinary?"

I hope I'm doing the math right. I'm not sure how many days are in each month.

"Excellent! Yes perhaps you could show us by the stream maybe there will be a clue."

"Yes, take us to this stream if you would be so kind. Are there any known dangers here near said stream or in these parts? Does anyone else visit said stream often?" Dorobo stays on alert for any sign of ambush or hostility as they travel to the stream.

Nexus steps up and taps the human on the thigh. He clears his throat to get the big man’s attention.

Terribly sorry to bother you, but I was just wondering if I could ask you a few questions. Awfully kind of you to donate the turnips. he begins with a serious air.

Do you know this Jane personally. Could you describe what type of character she is in your opinion. We haven’t met her you see so are running blind. We know she is an apprentice to the wizard Helmet, was it... anyway, she disappeared without her spell components in the middle of the night. It didn’t look like there was a struggle however. But then, being a wizard myself I know ... magic!! Is the type to run off do you think? Does she have any friends or lovers here that you know of, any dreams she may have shared? Were her and her master intimate or strictly professional. I do understand these are hard questions to hear, but we need all the information we can to try and ascertain where she might have gone, and why! We can talk on the way of you like!

Alexa shakes her head at the mention of Student and Master being intimate. Under her breath she states:

Nexus raises his eyebrows and nods emphatically. Terrible. Terrible indeed.

August stands patiently while Roderick performs the calculations in his head, and remains stoic despite the Avatar's excitement. "If those dates are correct, then you have seen her more recently than anyone we have yet spoken to!"

No reaction.

"Tell me, had she recently arrived from the southwest? Did she seem rushed, or ill at ease, or otherwise out of the ordinary?" Roderick inquires. The giant of a man looks up again as he ponders the question and attempts to recall the details of his last encounter with the missing girl. "Aye," he starts. "She come from same direction as you." he states, pointing back in the direction from which the group arrived a few minutes earlier. "The girl not stop here. Just pass by, and wave when we see each other. She head that way," he says, turning and pointing to the north, across town. "That there is the stream."

"I just keep working, and don't know if she go left or right, but she acting normal to me."

Helmaer like her -- like his own girl; not in bad way." he says, trailing off briefly, still in thought.

"No struggle. Left stuff behind. I don't know what to think, but maybe not so bad?"

"You want to go check out stream? I could come with, if you like. Or not. I was good tracker before stopping to keep farm."
