The Breaking of the Valley

The land formerly known as The Whispering Thicket has never been tamed. The hordes of chaos that swept through the valley during the last generation were only narrowly turned back by the forces of King Mortrand. Now recovered from the conflict, the self-styled King of Men has sent newly raised Duke Emmanuil (colloquially known as The Builder) to unite and tame Broken Valley.

A Call for Adventurers

Broken Valley beckons before Duke Emmanuil stretching between the twin ranges of the Dire Mounts and the Dead Giants. A call has gone out to all of the lands for bold parties to stake a claim in this untamed wild. Brave heroes should make all possible haste to the Port Village of Bitterpan to hear how they can be of service to His Excellency.

On the morning of the First of the Year, Duke Emmanuil will be consecrating the quests of all adventuring parties by the Might of King Mortrand and the Power of the Church of Law.

The Pantheons of Law and Chaos

Law
Nayr, the Spirit of Inspiration and the Stars, is blindingly beautiful, with ashen skin, short, flowing black hair, and eyes the color of bluejay eggs. He is usually depicted as very tall and willowy, and tends to look sad and commonly wears peasants' clothes dyed dark blue-violet and dark gold.
He is also associated with charisma and rain. Travelers will frequent find altars dedicated to him near rivers. There are many myths involving his friendship with Adim. He is the brother of Tev.

Inapheth, the Spirit of Crossroads and Luck, is eerily beautiful, with bronzed skin, shoulder length, black hair, and eyes the color of amethyst. He is average height and slightly plump, and seldom smiles. He usually wears stylized armor dyed medium blue.
He is also associated with thunder, armor and magic. There are many sacrifices to him at crossroads. He is the father of Camina.

Adim, the Spirit of Wisdom, Storms and Dawn, is an exotic beauty, with bronzed skin, short, rippling pale red hair, and eyes the color of forest moss. She is tall and slightly plump, and generally has a blissful expression. She usually wears armor and a helmet dyed blue-violet and dark red-violet.
She is also associated with agriculture, shame and runaways. There are a large number of shrines to her in the foothills of mountains. She is the cousin of Nayr. She is known to give some help to mortal heroes.

Chaos
Tev, the Spirit of the Undead, Youth and Intoxicants, is almost plain-looking, with ivory skin, short, wavy dark golden hair, and eyes the color of bronze discs. She is medium height and very slender, and almost never frowns. She usually wears stylized armor dyed dark grey.
She is also associated with sleep. She is the sister of Nayr. She is known to appear to mortal villians.

Camina, the Spirit of Destruction, is very beautiful, with fair skin, short, wavy dark grey hair, and eyes the color of stormy seas. She is tall and willowy, and is usually smiling. She usually wears opulent robes dyed red-orange and pale brown.
She is the mother of Tev.

Araskocos, the Spirit of Evil and Prophecy, is almost plain-looking, with gray skin, short, flowing bright red hair, and eyes the color of dark rubies. He is of average height and of hearty build, and sometimes seems very sad. He usually wears simple robes dyed blue-green and grey-blue. There are many myths involving his many adventures with Camina.

One Church, Three Faiths

The Church of Law is the only organized religion in the land. While it is run by a strict hierarchy, there are variations in interpretation within the church regarding its approach to the other faiths, its proper position in society, hierarchy of the spirits and so forth. While Nayr, Inapheth and Adim are the three main recognized spirits of the Church, others doubtless exist in other societies.

The Faiths of Chaos do not exist in any sort of connected framework. Still though, smaller gatherings of Chaotic Faithful are not unheard of. The Spirits of Chaos exist to bring entropy to the world and act in both obvious and subtle ways, sometimes in concert with each other, sometimes apart. Tev, Camina and Araskocos are well known because of the power they wield and their ability to affect the conflict between Chaos and Law. Followers of Chaos can be found anywhere societies form and can be accepted members of society, depending on the views of the local Church of Law.

The Green Faith is the final source of worship and power. It's adherents are few in number and view themselves as caretakers for the battlefield between Law and Chaos. Generally speaking, they do not appreciate either side of the conflict and view themselves as something entirely different.
