Joker

Joker dropped his last cigar in the mud, so he's got a pen in his teeth, chewing away. He nods absently, currently absorbed in a Google search for cedars in the Ft Smith area.

Turns out you can find cedars where trees grow! Also you will now be getting you inbox and searches spammed with advertisements for cedar chips for landscaping, which means a +1 to the difficulty of all research rolls until the end of next month. So on Sept 11th your back to normal.

The head's fine. Overall, I'm a bit sore, but nothing like after a game, although I admit I'm not really used to that level of physicality anymore. We should probably talk to the mayor or someone at the historical society about getting the mound protected. Maybe even the governor's office.

Yeah but if the press started talking about it, it might be an easier sell. Better to ask forgiveness than permission you know.

All right, I'll talk to the press. With that, Lionel heads over near where Jamie is speaking with Brother Barry, waiting patiently for the interview to finish.

Brother Barry was answering questions for Jamie and seemed to be... well, to call it charming her was not the right word... he was simply someone either skilled, schooled, or most likely both, at calming people and compelling them to listen. Lionel can surely feel that there is a reason such a young man is already a pastor of a church, even if it is a small one. But the bible does mention hundreds of times about spirits, souls, angels, and even demons. I don't feel like this was something of the later of those, but simply something that was, despite how I believe it looked, you have to realize that some of the descriptions of even archangels are hard to take in, like having 100 wings with eyes, or the head of a lion and standing 50 fathoms tall... I believe, with some reserve, that this was something of that nature, and it is God's place to understand and ours to pray about and accept. I'm sorry, did I answer your question?

Jamie looked a little blown away. Well, to be honest, I think you answered more than a few. Oh! And here, of course, we have Mr. Lionel Williams, of ghostbuster fame. Lionel has become something of a breakout hit in the community and certainly one of the more publically noticed of his team of professionals. Lionel? What can you tell us about the events tonight? We caught some footage that... well, to be honest escapes my words at this particular moment. What are your thoughts at this moment both as a professional as well as new resident of our town on what you have seen?

Thomas and Jean have a quick exchange. Jean looks a little flustered, maybe a touch embarrassed. Thomas chuckles and takes out the cigar given to him by Joker. He gives it a good sniff and nods, taking out an old pocketknife. He carefully cuts it in half and offers one half to Joker with a wink before pocketing the knife and taking out his worn zippo.

Jean Grandpa says as long as we get a pole prepared before the next new moon, then A'ya'hi'ya will not be offended.
We can dedicate the pole and rededicate the crossroads at that time. What the tribe needs is access to the mound and the grounds around it.

Lionel "Freight Train" Williams

Looking at Jamie briefly before turning to speak into the camera, Lionel answers her questions. Well, Jamie, I don't pretend to be an expert on religion, so some of what happened tonight was beyond my understanding. Fortunately, we are able to call on Brother Barry here for that. This was something far beyond what we could have expected. However, with the help of Brother Barry, as well as Thomas Ten-Chiefs, an elder of the Caddo tribe, we were able to do the appropriate things to calm and satisfy the spirits of the dead. We still have some work to do, but nothing like the spectacle this evening.

One of the things we want to do is get the mound declared a protected site. This area is a burial ground, and those who are here should be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. We cannot allow the graves and bodies to be desecrated anymore. Nobody would be okay with tombstones and graves being disturbed in the local cemetery. That's exactly what this is. Just because it is a burial ground from a different culture does not make it any less important or valued. We need to value all cultures.

So far, as most of the Ghostbusters are newcomers to Fort Smith- although I myself am not new to the area- we have, for the most part, been met with acceptance by people from all walks of life in this wonderful community. I know I am happy to be here, doing what I can to make the community the best it can be for everyone. What happened here tonight is a good example. We worked with members of different communities to strengthen the community as a whole. Hopefully, the Caddo will become a welcome part of the community once more. We could not have succeeded tonight without the critical assistance of Thomas Ten-Chiefs and his daughter, Jean.

Joker
Joker accepts the half cigar with a smile and a bow of his head. He lights it, the smoke pungent enough to kill the mosquitoes around him, and gets back to searching.

He closes the pop-ups about cheap viagra and 'hot girls in your area', and enters his search parameters again, scrolling past the first two pages of nothing but chainsaws for sale and home sawmills. Cedar grove, hilltop, state land

Roy as per the usual skirts the press and avoids them like their the plague. "Best leave the talkers to do the talkin' is my motto." he says to nobody particular as he looks to pick up any equipment that isn't needed.

Mission 5: The Cavanaugh Mound: Caddo Me a Favor?
On the way to
August 11, 2018 10:20pm
Cooler and Humid, clouds clearing, New Moon & Dark.

Jamie and her camera guy exchanges a quick glace after Lionel was done talking. The Camera guy put his finger to his ear and seemed to be listening then grinned and gave a tumbs up. Jamie gave him a smile and started up again. Well, Mr. Williams, this is certainly a exciting grouping of events. So this was a joint mission between your own team, the Church that owns the property, and the Caddo tribe? That is a heck of a combination. Moving forward, what do you think will happen? Will the spirits be appeased with what happened tonight?

That was a heck of a monologue! Take a free Brownie point!

Bur and his camera man were finally back to their feet and splattered with mud. The precocious reporters simply threw off his trench coat and stood in his white pressed shirt and suspenders with tie, moving quickly over to the mound itself and pointing over his shoulder, talking towards the camera. ...the site of this nights events in our fair town... This mound, long before caved in by the wise leaders of our town to keep the children safe, tonight included in the arcane antics of the Old Fort Ghostbusters who brought in outside help this time in the form of two, yes, two representatives of the an Oklahoma tribe known to have contentions with the Mayor's Land Aquisision group! A clash of interest within our own fine time? Will there be a new land war between The Mayor and his new rag tag group of so called ghostbusters? Is this another publicity stunt to draw out the press and put sympathy on the church allowing an opening for future negociations both here and across the state line?

Jean gets a look in her eye...

GM Rolls Dice...
Jean Cool w/ Specialty: (10) [7d6] = 27 G: [1d6] = 4
This will be good...

Thomas notices it and reaches to put a hand on her shoulder but it is too late and she moves directly at Bur like a tornado bearing down on a trailer park. Publicity stunt?! PUBLICITY STUNT?! Let me tell YOU something Mr. Westmolen... This land was used by the Caddo before the La Salle was even a glimmer in his father's eye all the way back in France! Do you hear me? Have you ever opened a history book?! Have you bothered coming across the border as you put it to talk to us about the Mayor, his schemes, and his attempts to get more of our land out from under us? Have you bothered to see the legal Explitive Deleted for the Kiddies :) that he and the Land Bureau that he has in his pocket have put people through?! Have you bothered reporting on that? No! You and your stupid camera people... she grabs the camera by the lens. Only talk about schemes and conspiracies without looking at what is right in front of you!!! Look! she pointed the camera at the mound. This is a burial mound! A Burial. Mound! Not an object for you to point a camera at in the hopes of getting one more viewer on your dying on the vine news show! Not something to be bargained over! It is a place where people were laid to rest! Where some of your own people were laid to rest after you bought it when we were forced to move! You want a story? LOOK IT UP! and with that she turned and stomped away with a scream of frustration looking like she wants to kill someone.

Brother Barry looks at Thomas who just shrugs. Then points to the ground and then to himself before making a larger gesture. Then points to the church and taps BB on the chest making the same gesture. Speaking in Caddo the entire time. He then takes BB's hand in his own like handshake and presses it to his heart and then his own before raising his hands upwards to the sky and looking for a moment before looking back to BB to see if he gets it.

Brother Barry ...

Joker finally gets his phone to cooperate and finds out that there is a hardware store just blocks away that sells cedar but it is closed until morning.

Jason, Mac, Etta, as well as Jamie, Lionel & The other Camera Guy all get the earful of what Jean just laid down on Bur, and Jamie looks about as surprised as anyone. Then there is Bur himself, who for once looks a little speechless as the Caddo woman stomps off leaving him looking an inch tall as she tromped out of the Mound site and towards the truck. The crowd parts as she nears but she realizes she is more or less blocked in.

The other two news channels have focused their camera's on her but quickly the reporters turn back to other people whom they are interviewing.

Lionel "Freight Train" Williams

This was much bigger than just a free-roaming spirit that we could trap and dispose of, so we needed to enlist outside help. In this case, the experts we needed were religious figures, so, yeah, a joint mission pretty much. As for the future, we'll just have to wait and see. We have some things we need to do, but a big part of whether the spirits will be appeased, as you put it, is if we can get the mound protected status. It won't do much good to go through all of this only to have someone come along down the line and disturb the graves. Hopefully, once we have taken the steps necessary to make the spirits happy, to make them no longer restless and angry with the living, when their resting place is no longer desecrated, then I believe the mound will once more become a place of peace and tranquility for those who have been interred here and there should be no more problems.

Joker hears Jean's tirade and smiles. Anything to keep that Pislik in his place. he says, too low to be heard. He makes a note of the hardware store, then searches again for stands of live cedars.

Jason tried not to smile seeing Bur get a verbal beatdown from Jean but couldnt help himself.

He fumbled through his pockets to his phone and finds Julias contact.
Need to get in touch with corporate, probably Tully to see about declaring a spot a preservation. See if he can get ua the info asap please.

He takes a picture of Lionel speaking to the press and posts it on screecher captioned:

What a pro! The Freight Train always on track! #OldFortGB #Bustingmakesmefeelgood #ProtecttheCaddoMound

And taps send. He looks around shaking hands and trying to do his best to make sure everyone was amicable who was on the scene.

Are there any police, specifically the Sgt. we have talked to onsite?

Roy continues to skirt the press and just packs up any gear not needed then will look for someone not occupied by "interviewers" to see what else he can assist with.

Mission 5: The Cavanaugh Mound: Caddo Me a Favor?
On the way to
August 11, 2018 10:40pm
Cooler and Humid, clouds clearing, New Moon & Dark.

As things seem to be winding down, the journalists seem to be wrapping up what they are doing, getting a few interviews from witnesses. Brother Barry seems unsure what Thomas was trying to tell him, but the old man still seems oddly amused as everyone heads back to the ecto and Jean's truck.

Jean seems to have cooled off finally and even helps with putting up some of the equipment.
Are there any police, specifically the Sgt. we have talked to onsite?
That is a good question!
GM Rolls Dice...
Police? Even yes, Odd no, 2, 6, or 12 Sgt. is there [2d6] = 7

Negative Ghostrider

When Jason text Julia, it shows delivered but unread. What could a young 20 something be doing on a Saturday night?

His Screecher post though is quickly getting plenty of pings about likes and re-screams.
That is a good question!

Who notices? 1-50 Stiffs 51-85 Celebs 86-100 Wink [1d100] = 38 Just scaring the stiffs for now :)

GM rolls super secret squirrel dice....

As the news vans pack up there seems to be a quick hustle of activity where they are all of a sudden are shouting and piling themselves into their vehicles to get moving. There are variations of "Hurry hurry! Let's go!" Jamie gives Lionel an apologetic look. News moves fast!

Thomas whistles and laughs as he watches the local news channels rush away and waves. Most of the crowds at this point is also thinning other than a few of the more prominent church members who are, themselves, crowding around Brother Barry. "What happened?" "What does this mean?" "Should we pray?" "We should bulldoze that mound..." "This has to be a stunt..."
"Hush and let the poor man speak!"
This last voice coming from an older woman bent over a cane and looking up with a single eye, the other one having become lazy in old age. She was old enough to be even the oldest person's mother. She points a warning finger and then looks at BB more gentle. Go ahead Brother Barry. We are all listening. Tell us your own take on all this before anyone gets all worked up.

And like that all eyes turned to BB as if waiting for a revelation. Thomas grins wide and eases over to which Jean also follows, standing near him. Well, near as I can tell, the mound had some restless souls that now that I gave a prayer on their behalf, seem to have moved on. So God bless them. I pray they will find peace. Remember what Dr. Mulholland said about there being graves put on top and the rumors of them getting exposed to the weathering? I think we can honestly say that is true. We should continue to pray for those souls and work with the Dr. to make sure this is taken care of. I'm not sure what else we can do... but there is also... something else... that is there that was apparently causing the snake problem. It seems to be... appeased for now, but I think we need to let the Caddo people do their own prayers for their own people too...

There are some murmurs of unrest from the small crowd. Thomas and Jean exchange a mixed look.

Jason makes his way to Brother Barry smiling and shaking hands in the crowd, trying to be pleasant.

Thank you for all your help today. You seem well suited to your calling, if you don't mind me saying. He digs into his pocket and pulls out a card. If you ever need anything else, you can call me directly too. I would like to have a meeting with you, even your whole congregation on what we need to do to the place moving forward. If thats all right, whenever is best for you. Id prefer people didn't think we were butting in their business.
