Who wants to get in in Ront's place?

It's not obvious that this would be the rule in raw, but I'll say in addition to advantage, he can add the strength bonus of his helper, as well. Derendil, the other very strong character, also has a +3 strength mod.

Working together, Derendil and Ront are able to move the winch, and the elevator begins to drop down into the darkness. You continue to hear the loud buzzing coming from the direction of the quaggoth cave, and perhaps even the sound of some kind of battle?

When the winch is about halfway down, a pair of drow soldiers come running into the barracks area. Apparently surprised to find you here, they draw their swords!

Actions? Group initiative?

Ront and Raknar advance aggressively and smacks at one of the Drow with their clubs (4 damage and 5 damage). Derendil and Buppido attack the other one, and Derendil rakes a claw fiercely across his chain armor (6 damage).

The first drow attacks Ront, drawing a thin line of blood with his shortsword (4 damage), though the attack barely phases the orc. The second drow shies away from Derendil, and attacks Buppido, staggering him! (8 damage!)

You return to the winch, and you lower it the rest of the way down to the ground.

Looking out into the darkness beyond the barracks, you see signs of some kind of aerial battle taking place. There seem to be figures with bat wings (8-9 feet tall) fighting some giant (8 foot tall) insects, which are producing the awful buzzing. You hear a bunch of yelling from the vicinity of the temple/guard room area... it sounds like fighting is taking place over there, as well.

Do you want to raise the basket back up, or ...?

The Drow will call back up to the others, describing what he sees- unless he feels making noise could draw attention to them.

Raknar shouts into the cavern "What do ye see down there?"

The sound echoes in the cavern, but is largely drowned out by the droning and screeching of the giant creatures. It occurs to you that shouting may attract unwanted attention, if there is anyone out there to hear you...

As you wait for a reply, another prisoner, Birbal, comes up the path down which the drow ran down moments ago.

I think it's unlikely that the guys 100 feet below would hear you. Since they are NPCs, we'll keep whatever they see secret, for now.

It was Sarith, not Derendil, who went down in the basket.
