Can I suggest that we examine the ghostly dwarf and his injuries before we use any of our three questions?

His not knowing where he is seems it might need a little time to wear off, hopefully it's not that he didn't see anything (but maybe he heard things).

So maybe we can tell from his appearance if he was attacked from behind, if he had time to fight back (more than one wound, weapon drawn), and the like.

If we have an evil DM (and I am taking no official position on that), 1 and 2 can be answered with "yes" or "no" and no other information. . .

So I wonder if we can find out from the clerics how strictly the dead interpret questions under these circumstances?

i thought about that....are the dead smarter than an unseen servant spell ;) probably not.
the PH handbook hints at "evasive as possible"
oh, and the questions should be asked in dwarvish i bet

Here's an idea, Evan could play an old Dwarven anthem while Simmuns asks.
perhaps the song will influence reaction, less vague answers possibly

so, i was right, the music does help.....and will attempt to play something dramatic during the ceremony.

"You brought me back for that?"....classic :!:

how about...
1. what did the killers say they were going to do with the discs?
2. what will we need to apprehend the thieves?
3. what was the name of their leader?

dunno, better?

How about:

1. What did you hear during the attack and theft?
2. What did you see during the attack and theft?
3. What did you hear during the attack and theft?

Or, we could ask one, wait for the answer, and then formulate the next question?

sounds good , as long as 'attack and theft' are not construed as 2 questions

Well, three questions, but we can tell him things too, right?

Duren, you were killed guarding the disks two days ago, and have been brought here by your guild's clerics to answer questions so we can find and avenge your murderers who stole the disks from the guild.
1. Duren, what is your report to the guild on your final guard duty?
2. Duren, what race and species were the attackers?
3. Duren, what can we tell your family?

NJWilliam has already posted one question. It may take longer to reslove this way, but it will probably be better info, if we use the answers to form part of the n=other questions.....good idea.....

on an unrelated tangent......how do i do that little "show button trick?

Since we have 9 questions, how about everyone takes one, and then we agree on three?

I do like asking them what we can tell their family, it might give us information we wouldn't otherwise get, and would probably be looked on favorably by the dwarves.

Endeavor

Okee dokes, if we go that route my question would be something like:

Was there anyone familiar that you personally knew or had knowledge of, or was there some quality or qualities present among your attacker(s) that you would recognize quickly and would say they would be identifiable by?

(**this is assuming that he even glimpsed the attacker(s) prior to his death; alternately I could ask: Was the attack in here preceded by a stampede of escaped creatures from the Gothmoor Zoo? )

Also, most likely, all the guards werent killed at once therefore those that lived longer (even a few moments) may have seen and understood more in those last few seconds than their predecessors into death; not sure if that will be a factor, but its one possible idea. Duren was also a young guy; he may be the 'yung n dum' type of dwarf, as opposed to a seasoned warrior whos seen more battle (and more of life in general). I'd prefer to ask THAT guard and not Duren, but if they were all young subordinates then its all the same.

I think the first question that was asked was a good one.
We can create your next questions based on the answer.

If the spirit is super evasive we can try to be very specific or whatever.

I would like to know the number of attackers first
creature identification second
