hard decisions

lets pretend we surrender, and then surprise attack them?

i could "check" kinkajou, like a real doctor, just to say "oh no, he is dead!"
when the enemy get closer, we surprise attac them. sounds like a plan?

I don’t think Thunk will be much help whatever we come up with.

Although...does being charmed by a now-dead priest mean he’s also charmed by everyone else in the temple?

Good point. Dead priest means Thunk is no longer charmed!

Oh, good. Then Thunk can die fighting at least.

I’m not sure what our other options are. We’re basically without equipment, right? Maybe there’s something on the priest’s belt that could help?

But I suspect that our best chance of making it out alive was to get out before the alarm was raised. With the alarm, though, we’re pretty well outnumbered.

We should at least keep the pinheads bottles up in the door, though.

Note, Tarka is down the corridor outside the room at another door. He got separated / shut outside when he chased the acolytes out of the room, so that probably wouldn't quite work, but generally some form of deception seems like a good idea / well the best of a bunch of bad options anyway :D. On the plus side, the decapitates aren't quite with you yet, so you maybe have a few seconds to deal with the two acolytes who killed(?) Wither. If you could deal with them, could you swap clothes with / dress up as the priest and the acolytes perhaps and pretend you'd killed the escaping prisoners?

A few points to keep in mind:

• There are two doors in the room you are in. Tarka is outside the north door, and that is the direction the priest and acolytes came from. The priest tried to exit through the south door.
• There are two magical devices handing from the priest's belt.
• Wither found two scrolls.
• There are lots of surgical tools scattered around.
• The best case scenario with the Nullites is that they'll chop your head off and stick an antenna in its place.

Thunk doesn't use his head that often, but he's still quite attached to it!

Okay, so maybe we grab the scrolls, the magical devices, and some tools, and flee through the south door?

Spells in Knave are all attached to objects (typically spell books, but they can be anything—mechanically, the important thing is that they take up an encumbrance slot and can be used once a day). Any Knave is capable of casting a spell if they have the appropriate object in their inventory. You will recall, however, that the item that charmed Thunk has already been used, today.

Are we able to use something just by taking it and saying we’re using it, or do we need to figure it out first?

And do Neanderthals have any issues with using magic?

If it's in your inventory, you can use it.

It's a good question about woolly neanderthals. The intention of the game is to be classless—everyone is capable of doing the full spectrum of adventuring activity. On the other hand, neanderthals have explicit problems with the trappings of civilization. For now, at least, let's say this: Neanderthals can't read, and so can't use text-based spell objects. But they are familiar with totems and other magically-invested items, and so can use those as long as they are not explicitly technological (like some of Professor Gormontine's stuff). All of which is to say that Thunk could use the items on the priest's belt, but not the scrolls.

There are two devices on the priest's belt. He has used one of the to charm Thunk.

1- can Gori take the magical device and pretend he is down, next to kinkajou character?
2- if not able to be closer, can he take the object, pretend to be down, hidden the object so he can surprise attack later?

Tarka is in another space entirely than the rest of the PCs—through the north door, at the end of a corridor. He is directly in the view of a group of decapitates.

You absolutely can. You might want to think about what step two of this plan is, however. I can't guarantee that the decapitates are going to bother with capturing any of you, given the circumstances. They may very well choose to coup de grâce anyone they find down.

Also, there are still two acolytes in the room with you.

Alright, we've had a pretty good period of deliberation. Let's have final action in by Monday, July 29.

There are no decapitates in the room you are in. You do not know how long it will take them to arrive (it depends on how things shake out with Tarka). There are two acolytes in the room with you who have just gotten their first taste of blood. They might attack somebody, but they have several options in the room. Or, maybe they'll flee?

I guess I should change Thunk's action too, then, since there aren't any headless around to for him to try to ooga-booga?

The acolytes are on the north end of the room and the priest is on the south end. So they are not in a position to block you. However, they are in a good position to attack you when you turn your back on them, if that is what they choose to do. This probably comes down to initiative.

Correct! However, you can spook the acolytes, if you want.
