Chapter 2: The Heist
Re: Chapter 2: The Heist
Super... yup, that's exactly what you should do.
You have established a magical connection to the fire wall, and you got a fleeting luck!
To unweave the spell, you now need to beat me on a series of contested spell check rolls. Each success you get reduces the flame, each success I get will burn you. You'll take 1d6 damage from the fire.
For the first roll...
Spell check [1d20+2] = 14+2 = 16

Shemhk
Spell Check (d20): [1d20+2] = 10+2 = 12
ouch!!
can I use luck and/or spellburn for these rolls?

Re: Chapter 2: The Heist
Sure, as you like...
Re: Chapter 2: The Heist
Do I get to know how many successes I need, or not until the end? As I'd need 4 points to fix this one I think I hold on to the points for a later roll and take the damage
Re: Chapter 2: The Heist
Each success will make the fire less deadly. Three will extinguish it.

Re: Chapter 2: The Heist
There are two dead jaguars, a litter box, a bucket of water, and the pile of barrels and crates you moved into the center of the room. There are more barrels and crates in the other room.
Re: Chapter 2: The Heist
Ok I'll spend 1 point fleeting luck and 4 points of ordinary luck to give me a 17.drpete wrote:Each success will make the fire less deadly. Three will extinguish it.
Re: Chapter 2: The Heist
The magic in your ropework spell begins to unravel the spell creating the fire wall. The fire begins to run up some of the magical rope strands, but you expend more energy to extinguish them.
Finally, you begin to get the better of the spell, and the intensity of the fire visibly reduces. Though the figures are still quite intense, you can now see a bit of the vault beyond. You can see a surprisingly small chamber, which looks to be less than 10 foot square.
As you continue...
Spell check [1d20+2] = 4+2 = 6

Shmehk
Gathering momentum, he continues to unweave the fire spell, sweat beading his brow:
Spell Check (d20): [1d20+2] = 18+2 = 20

Re: Chapter 2: The Heist
The flames recede more, to the point where it *might* be possible to cross the door without being killed. You can see that there are relatively few things in the vault... a written box, a bag, and a small coffer.
Continuing...
Spell check [1d20+2] = 17+2 = 19

Re: Chapter 2: The Heist
Shmehk pushes further, his successes so far making him overconfident:
Spell Check (d20): [1d20+2] = 5+2 = 7

Re: Chapter 2: The Heist
The flames run up the fibers of Shmehk's spell, singeing him.
Fire damage: [1d6] = 2
Continuing...
Spell check [1d20+2] = 4+2 = 6

Re: Chapter 2: The Heist
And, with that last push, the flames go out and the key hole floating in the center of the flames vanishes leaving an item doorway into the vault.
Rows of mostly bare shelves line walls. A small coffer,
a chain-link bag, and a wooden box are the only objects apparent.

Re: Chapter 2: The Heist
Raamiz claps Shmeck on the shoulder and says brightly, "Good job, friend Shmeck! You are a wizard after all, despite the swordplay! You must forgive my doubt--in my land, warriors use a sword and wizards do not, and that is that. But! Shall we inspect our prize?"
He pokes his head cautiously through the opening, his body following a moment later.

Re: Chapter 2: The Heist
No unusual things accompany Raamiz sticking his head through the door. It seems safe.
Re: Chapter 2: The Heist
Shmehk smiles at the bird-man
"No offence taken, I was intending a warriors life, until fate sent me in a different direction. You go in and check it's safe, I just want to check these burns before we continue"
While Raamiz heads in to look at the vault, Shmehk is going to pause and asses his burns.

Re: Chapter 2: The Heist
You can spend the luck if you want to...?
Re: Chapter 2: The Heist
actually, just reread the healing rules and I think I'll save the luck for later, so Shmehk will head in after Raamiz.
