Round 1
Azalea closes on the wizard and, brandishing a pair of daggers, lunges out with one strike after another. Her first, which appeared to be on target, suddenly seems to strike an invisible barrier of magical force instead as the robed caster, in an act of self-preservation, casts the Shield spell... which isn't enough to protect it from the rogues second dagger, which strikes true, and deep. The wizard cries out in pain and attempts to stop the flow of blood now gushing from his right forearm, but the wound proves to be fatal.

With just the four armed guards remaining, Sandro tumbles over to the first of them and, while his claw attack proves to be ineffective against the chain shirt of his target, he does connect solidly with his yklwa, severely wounding it.

Asmundr rushes up alongside the monk and, which his hand axe, looks to finish off what his turtle companion started, but finds his strike knocked aside by the the large man's shield.

Louchi shrieks from the fiery blast in her face, but fights off the worst of its effects refuses to succumb to the full intensity of the flames. The half giant tries the pipes again, this time playing them with a bit less gusto, and a bit more vibrato... and while she is able to produce a more normal sounding musical effect, the instrument doesn't appear to convey any unusual or even helpful benefits.

Garl moves to engage the second guard, and feels a sting in his grip as his sword clangs solidly, but harmlessly against the guard's chain shirt.

The first guard, fending off both Sandro and Asmundr, looks to target the unarmored, squishy human. The sorcerer feels a sting as the guard's sword slices through his side like butter (-9), then feels the blood rush from his head... then everything goes dark.

The second guard, after having just been attacked by Garl, looks to extract some revenge, and does so, cutting deep into the hide of the half-orc (-8) and causing him to succumb to the pain, just like Asumdr before him.

The third guard, after watching Azalea cut down both wizards, looks to eliminate the deadly rouge... and almost does with a perfectly placed strike (-7)!

The fourth guard, still near the bound prisoners, lets his spear fly, targeting Sandro, and watches with pride as his hurled weapon sinks into the turtles shell -- and sticks! The monk feels a sting (-5) from the point of entry.

Through her frustration, both at the seemingly defective instrument, and the loss of two party members, Louchi calls for Cat and Maladie for assistance. The pair are surrounded by afflicted worshipers, all fighting for their chance at receiving the antidotes, which the two of them possess. At the group's beckoning, however, the hand off the vials to the next recipient and, providing them with a reminder that only a drop is needed, look to join the fray.

---

Those guard attack rolls!? Wow, I did not see that coming. Asmundr and Garl, please roll a d20 for your first death saving throws.

Everyone else, actions and/or movement for round 2.

P.S...
(Don't forget your potions of healing, which do require an action to administer or consume (confirmed here).)

Seeing her fellow companions dropping like flies, Azalea stares the guard in the eyes and drinks her healing potion.

[1d4] = 2
[1d4] = 2
2+2+2=6

Feeling averagely refreshed she prepares herself for another beating from this guard.

Louchi gives up on pretending she is a bard and tosses the pipes to an onlooker, wondering if they will have any better luck with them.

Seeing her friends dropping like flies, she rushes to whoever is furthest away from the most dangerous of the melee and administers a healing potion unto them.

She roars out to the lone guard near the prisoners.

"You might want to think about getting out of here before we cut you down like we did these wizards. RUN AWAY!!! NOW!!!"

She doesn't think that will actually work, but she figures it might be worth a try.

Can you make an Intimidation check?

Note: Because of the framing of your attempt, I will allow you to use your strength modifier (+2) instead of your charisma (0).

  4. 15: Asmundr (3)
  5. 12: Louchi (3)
  6. 11: Garl (5)
  7. 5: Guards
  8. 2: Cat
  9. 1: Maladie
---

Round 1
Seeing her fellow companions dropping like flies, and after being horribly stabbed by the third guard, Azalea stares down the guard and drinks her healing potion and feels mostly back to full strength.

Sandro, barely clinging to life himself, follows the rogue's lead and quickly drinks the red liquid that is his healing potion, hoping the revitalization will be enough to survive the remainder of the fight.

Asmundr and Garl both appear to be hanging on, and neither appears any closer to death's door -- for the moment.

"You might want to think about getting out of here before we cut you down like we did these wizards. RUN AWAY!!! NOW!!!" Louchi roars.

The guards do give an initial pause after the mini-giants bellowing threat, but simply snicker when they realize they currently appear to outnumber the party.
(Plus, the module specifically reads: "The criminals fight to the death to carry out their mission.")
They continue their assault, looking to quickly dispatch with those that stand in their way.

The first guard appears to briefly contemplate running the fallen sorcerer through, all but guaranteeing that particular threat will be eliminated, but then sizes up his tortle opponent and looks to have the monk join his fallen companion. With an unexpected quickness, the guard lunges at Sandro, but the tortles thick shell absorbs all the contact. With Garl no longer in his way, the second guard slides up on the opposite side of the first and flanks Sandro and finds his blade more successful at penetrating the tortle's thick natural armor (-7), returning the monk to his previous, barely clinging onto life, condition.

The third guard sticks on Azalea and repeats his success, issuing another gash to the rogue (-4).

When one of the bound prisoners begins to effort to return to their feet, the fourth guard gives them a forceful kick to the knee and chuckles evilly as the prisoner crumbles back to the floor in obvious pain. From his safe distance, he watches with amusement as his companions seem to be having their way with the offending party members -- then spots Cat and Maladie rushing to join the fray!

He calls out this latest interruption to his companions, then draws his swords and dashes to intercept the latest intruders.

Cat surveys the situation then unslings her longbow and fires two arrows in quick succession, and curses as she watches both arrows stick into the guard's shield.

Maladie rushes over the Garl, who had been left abandoned on the battlefield by his attacker, and kneels at the half orc's side. A faint, simmering blue glow briefly flashes over the ranger, who suddenly springs to life (+7). Suddenly, Asmundr feels overcome with a healing energy and his eyes dart open as he, too, is at least partially restored (+5).

Azalea expertly pockets one of her daggers and unsheathes her short sword and yells to her comrades that she needs some help! She attacks the guard. (No sneak)

Short sword:
[1d20+5] = 8+5 = 13 [1d6+3] = 6+3 = 9 ([1d6] = 1)

Offhand dagger:
[1d20+5] = 17+5 = 22[1d4] = 3

Garl hears the sounds of battle return to him from the darkness. He staggers to his feet and sends a weak thrust to the nearest guard.

Attack (+3 str / +2 prof) [1d20+5] = 4+5 = 9
Long Sword Damage (+3 str) [1d8+3] = 8+3 = 11

Louchi thinks about drinking her potion herself, but since nothing seems to be going in her favor recently, she bounds in for an attack instead.

She targets the closest soldier to her, attempting to take out her frustrations after her ineffective flute playing.

Mace Attack [1d20+4] = 9+4 = 13 Damage [1d6+2] = 6+2 = 8

Sandro

Knowing he is in danger of being taken down by the thugs, the monk fights with desperation. His yklwa can't penetrate the thug's armor, but his follow up with his claws manages to slash his opponent's face.

Initiative Order
  1. 22: Azalea (1) - guard 3
  2. 19: Sandro (2)
  3. 18: Wizards
  4. 15: Asmundr (3)
  5. 12: Louchi (4)- guard 3
  6. 11: Garl (5)
  7. 5: Guards
  8. 2: Cat (6) - guard 4
  9. 1: Maladie (7) - guard 4
---

Round 4
As the confrontation before the parade rages on, Azalea expertly pockets one of her daggers and unsheathes her short sword. Calling out to her companions for assistance, she slashes at the third guard with her two bladed weapons, landing a cut with her offhand dagger.

"Hey, dudes!" Sandro says, finding himself flanked by a pair of guards, "No fair!" The tortle targets the first guard, who's already sporting heavy wounds, and looks to level the odds. With a whirling swipe using his yklwa, the monk does just that, cutting down the first guard. "Now things are fair, dude!" he says as he lashes out against the second guard with his claw, but has his efforts knocked aside.

Asmundr rises to his feet and dusts himself off after having his vitality at least partially recovered by Maladie. The sorcerer, not currently being threatened by an enemy, takes advantage of this break from the action and downs his potion of healing, returning himself to full strength.

Louchi contemplates drinking her own healing potion, but hears the call for help from Azalea and resists the urge. Lumbering over to where the rogues plea came, the mini-giant comes to her companion's aide. Approaching the third guard from the rear, the cleric flanks the guard and brings about her mace... which bashes against the chain shirt the guard is wearing, but doesn't appear to have inflicted any meaningful harm. Her arrival, however, does put the pair in a very favorable advantage.

Garl hears the sounds of battle return to him from the darkness. As he staggers to his feet and dusts himself off, he watches as Lochi moves to assist Azalea, so he moves to assist Sando. The half orc circles around and flanks the second guard, then from his advantageous position, he jabs at the unsuspecting target and sends his blade deep into back of the guard, who gurgles on his own blood before collapsing, dead.

The third guard, aching from the unsuspecting mace drubbing complements of Louchi, wheels around and slices at the ranger, but flails wildly. Having witnessed the raven-haired stranger wield healing magics, the fourth guard focuses its efforts on her, and draws blood against Maladie with a glancing blow.

Cat drops her longbow and rushes at the fourth guard with her shortsword, lashing out at her target twice, clipping her guard with her first strike, but having her second effort foiled.

With a near perfect slice, the former Lady of the Plagues watches her scimitar cut through exposed flesh of the fourth guard that just cut her, leaving the slaver reeling and fighting to remain on his feet -- which he does, barely.

While the parade crowd having mostly fled the area of conflict, the combatants find themselves alone as the battle rages on... but seems to be nearing its end with the party and full strength, and the remaining slavers nearing defeat.

Scott, our rolls for Sandro are essentially equal, so I'm not going back and reworking the narrative (which will be off by a bit, but the outcome is the same).

Azalea looks to Louchi and says, “I knew I could count on my fellow female companion for aid.” She yells, “Girl power!”. Attacking with a little too much adrenaline with her ally next to her, she uses a little too much strength and not as much finesse.

Short sword:
[1d20+5] = 3+5 = 8 [1d6+3] = 6+3 = 9 ([1d6] = 2)

Dagger:
[1d20+5] = 3+5 = 8[1d4+3] = 4+3 = 7[1d6] = 6

Louchi

The pep talk from Azalea really helps the giantess's aim on her next blow.

Mace Attack [1d20+4] = 19+4 = 23 Damage [1d6+2] = 2+2 = 4

She looks around at Cat and Maladie doing their thing before responding.

"Yaaaa!!! It looks like we ladies are nearly running the show here! Well, at least in this ward, anyway!"

Sandro

Way to go, dudesses! the monk shouts, encouraging the female warriors to continue kicking ass. Intent on making himself useful in this fight, he runs to assist Cat and Maladie, bringing his yklwa down hard on the thug's now shattered skull. He then continues on (assuming this kills guard 4, if not he stays and attacks again) to the last guard, slashing at his throat with his claws.

Round 5
While the parade crowd having mostly fled the area of conflict, the combatants find themselves alone as the battle rages on... but seems to be nearing its end with the party and full strength, and the remaining slavers nearing defeat.

"Girl power!" Azalea yells as the tide of the battle swings into their favor with some impressive female performances. The excitement causes a spike in adrenaline coursing through the veins of the rogue, resulting in her applying more strength behind her attack at the cost of her usual finesse, which causes her to miss guard three with both her short sword and dagger attacks.

With a flurry of whirling attacks, Sandro quickly strikes down the already heavily wounded third guard with his yklwa, then issues a set of claw marks across the exposed throat of the sole remaining guard -- guard four.

The guard, fighting for its life, fends off Asmundr's axe strike with his shield, but does get clubbed by Louchi's mace.

A moment later, the tip of Garl's longsword emerges through the guard's gut, after being driven through its back with a powerful strike!

The slavers cut down, your attention immediately turns to the bound and restrained slaves.

Just as you're managing to free the last of the restrained slaves, Swordcaptain Arvene Morrow, whom originally recruited you to undertake this task, arrives. She, Cat, and Maladie thank the group profusely, and watch with pride as the vials of antidote continue to be disseminated amongst the ailing worshipers, only to have their afflictions begin to fade away.

---

Okay, guys. I'm already deep into preparations for my next game (if you haven't done so already, and are interested, please feel free to add your name to my recruitment post, here), and dealing with insanity at work, so I'm going to end this one maybe a bit more abruptly than I would normally.

Congratulations, guys! Well played.

I'm going to go ahead and move this one to the 'Completed Games' section, but you're obviously still able to continue posting if you feel there's a need.

It was a lot of fun (but, if I'm being honest, is a lot more effective/fun when played live in a single session. Still, you guys were great, so thanks again!
