Birthing Vats (character creation)

#1 Post by Inferno »

Character Creation Rules:

Game System: AD&D 1e by the book, except where noted below.

Tone: Post-apocalyptic science fantasy

Stats: Choose from one of the following arrays, and assign as you like. No modifications except for racial.

A) 18, 15, 13, 12, 10, 9
B) 17, 16, 14, 11, 10, 9
C) 16, 16, 15, 11, 10, 9
D) 15, 15, 15, 14, 9, 9

Race: Please see the Genetic Mutations thread for races available to PCs.

Class: Any from 1e PHB except Assassins and Bards. No Unearthed Arcana except Barbarians, who advance in levels at the same rate as Paladins.

Starting XP: 2,754 points each.

Hit Points: Maximum for first two levels. Starting at third level, roll on the US dice roller. Re-roll 1s.

Alignment: No evil characters.

Religion: Please see the Orbital Gods thread.

Starting GP: As per the 1e PHB, x2 due to your xp.

No starting Magic Items or Technology.

Unseen Servant dice roller will be used for tracking all rolls.
Campaign Code is 640.

The world is a post-apocalyptic science fantasy realm, set in the ruins of our long dead civilization.
I anticipate wilderness and subterranean exploration, ferocious battles, weird mystery, and extraordinary character interaction. Roleplay over rollplay.

I will be making a cleric/magic user who intermingles technology and magic with a obsessive knowledge of the lost past (expect 80's references). His holy symbol will be a VW emblem on a chain and his helm will be a mini-cooper hubcap, he will also sport a members only jacket.

I was thinking of playing a character who’s mother helped secret his escape from one of the Slave States in The Land of One Thousand Towers. His mother still resides there, and he has vowed to see to her freedom. I’m leaning toward a ranger but not sure yet.

Elven(?) Male Ranger, (Name?)
Neutral Good
Str: 15
Int: 15
Wis: 15
Dex: 9
Con: 14
Chr: 9

Hey Inferno, are elves permissible in Slave States in The Land of One Thousand Towers? Thanks!

L.L. comes from a long line of traveling priests, dating back thousands of years, of the god Tee-Emez-Ee. His family has been entrusted for millennia with mystcial items of the ancient world. The items at this time do not function as they require a magical power source called the Dur-a-Kell which his family has been searching for for over a thousand years. As the oldest child he has now taken up that mantel to continue the quest.

As a priest of Tee-Emez-ee L.L loves to inform others of the glories of the ancient world and of the promise of their return under the guidance of Tee-Emez-ee. In times of chaos he relies on his other relic the Sphere of divine Augury to get guidance from Tee-Emez-ee on what decision to make.

I'm thinking of a cat-man magic user, lawful neutral. He has fled the Saurian Lowlands after slaying his master, some petty and fussy wizard, in a drunken argument.

Cat-man magic-user (lawful neutral)

Hi Mant,
Elves can't be rangers, as per the PHB, but elves can be found anywhere in the Land of 1000 Towers, including Slave States. Evil Wizards love to experiment on them.

Maybe your character is a 1/2 elf?

Hi everyone,

Great starts so far!

Fyi, I added another mutant demi-human race for PCs to the Genetic Mutation thread:
Sort of Half Cat-Men, that operate like Half Elves.

Also, You guys will begin in Denethix:
An Indifferent State ruled by the tyrannical, hideous wizard, Fenethra, a horrid being twisted by magic and evil, his head is black and leathery, covered with eyes, and his hands are red taloned claws. Adventurers may move freely in this realm, under this demented madman's benign neglect.
Once you have character sheets worked up, load them into this thread for approval. Final, approved sheets then go into the Character Sheet thread. Thanks!

Not being a mutant is not an option. The very idea is ridiculous. :) I’m thinking gristled, notched-ear rat-man fighter. Should get along great with a cat man wizard. ;) :)

Inferno, are there limitations on rat men using weapons? Are they small, like halflings?

Hi wolf,
You roll the dice for starting gold and double the result.

For multiclass, we average the starting numbers first:

Adrock starting gold: cleric: [3d6] = 10, magic-user: [2d4] = 6

So: the average of 100gp and 60gp is 80gp. Double it, you get 160gp to start.

Spell selection is as per the PHB, p. 10.
Adrock has a 14 Int, and a 55% chance to know a spell. (Beyond Read Magic which he gets automatically.)

In the dice server, please roll for the chance to know the spells you want, in your order of preference.
For example, please roll: "Comprehend Languages (55%): [1d100]"
Then roll "Protection from Evil (55%): [1d100]"
Etc. etc., for each spell you choose, in order of your priority, until you get 6 spells, your minimum number of known spells.

Thanks.

Hi
Please don't let my cutesy chapter headers fool you.

The tech level of the Land of 1000 Towers is akin to that of Middle Earth or Hyboria.
Any functioning technology left over from the Time Before the Cataclysm is seen as magic.
