Re: OCC Combat Thread

#81 Post by zebediah »

Just looked at all the combat threads and the indeed I kept the number of arrows updated until the fight with the crows, but I did not accrue for any recovered arrows on that one (if Ogirdor could have recovered arrows there he would have more than 9 arrows at the beginning of the current combat).

For recovering arrows I have been using this calculation:

I missed this bit. For those of you who used arrows against the giant bats, lets just rule you recovered half of their number (rounded up) in working condition.
So in all combats where Ogirdor used his bow (except for the fight with the crows and the fight with the mephit where Og only gave one shot) I have added back half of the arrows shot as being recovered. Let me know if I should have done something differently.

It might be beneficial to ask folks to ooc their inventory when they post bow attacks. 8 of 12 arrows in quiver. This way you know they have 4 arrows outstanding that battle. I admit it gets awfully easy to fire 2-3 arrows each round during a battle and quickly lose track of total numbers.

I looked at your character sheet and saw a quiver with 24 arrows listed in equipment, so had assumed otherwise.

Plus you have a lot of dried fish with you, and Swilbosh is fishing for more. ;)

Yes, that is the house rule. We went for it to avoid having to roll a 1d100 for every arrow used. Ammunition lost is assumed to have been damaged or not found.

For PbP, no, that method is fine. Is everyone else ok with it and willing to tally their ammo in such manner?

This is a great idea. I say we do it if the players are willing.

Yes, there is one entry for the quiver, indicating the carrying capacity, and another a few lines below for the arrows, indicating quantity, type and location.

I say we use the exact same system. Bullets are more resilient than arrows but OTHO they are much harder to find, the equivalent of looking for a pebble. So it all evens out.

I like the 50% are lost rule. It's what I use as a DM. But I confess I have completely forgotten to think about it. I'll try to run through the threads this weekend and see how many I should be down. I think not many, but really have no idea...

EDIT: On second thought, I'm just going to guesstimate for now and guess high on the number of ammo lost. Assuming he loses the one he just shot, Thurinor has 20 of 24 bolts in his quiver.

Just updated the arrows following our last combat and Ogirdor is now running really low.

Vargr, is it possible for him to make some arrows?

Someone with the Bowyer/fletcher secondary skill can make arrows. Did folks select/roll for Secondary Skills during chargen?

I don't think I did, there's no mention in Ogirdor's sheet.

I dont see where Malone did that. His background mentions sewing and cooking. So, he has that going for him. THe fish should taste good.

Folks, go here:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/223 ... g/pcns.htm

And select any Secondary Skill that makes sense for your PC.

The, roll 1d100 and if you get 86+ select another skill.

I assume Malone (based on his backstory) would have tailor (due to the sewing sentence) fishing (due to cooking) or something military oriented. (armorer or Bowyer). I think it would be cheating to say bowyer now..., so tailor sounds good...
Then, roll 1d100 and if you get 86+ select another skill.

secondary skill [1d100] = 19
Forester..

Note, you don't have to determine the skill randomly, the 1d100 roll is just to see if you can also select another one.

If Malone picks "Forester" he can track like a Ranger at 45% ability.

Bowyer/Fletcher, since Ogirdor is a bow specialist it only makes sense to have that one.

As for a potential additional skill, [1d100] = 27 says no.

Ok, Ogirdor can make bows and arrows at 85% ability.

Note that he cannot make arrowheads, that would require the Weaponsmith skill, but he can recycle those of damaged arrows to make new ones. 1d6 arrow shafts can be done per day.

So this means he only looses 1/4 of spent arrows (lost so no heads can be recovered) instead of 1/2.

I've picked lapidary for Thurinor. Seems to match his artisan background and love of shiny objects, ha ha... This is actually pretty cool timing to flesh out our characters a bit more... :D

Secondary skill roll: [1d100] = 7 (no extra skills)
