"Look, we need to get outta here and regroup," Daryll says. "Maybe get a couple new guys to come help. Those things are tough. Damn beetles, too."

Cisneros nods, panting as they hustle. "I should like some time to work on my magic. I will be of more use in a week or two..."

Grim fumes into his beard. "I need a new hammer, but the thought of my cousin's flesh being eaten by those ... things ..." He chokes back a tear or two. "You WILL be avenged, cousin!"

The echoes of your tapping on the stones seem to follow you as you head for the exit. What is happening behind you with your fallen, the un-dead, and the giant beetles is unclear. You hustle back to the entrance room, where the rope still dangles from the hole in the ceiling, approximately 30 feet above the floor.

From behind, you can now hear the slap-slap of bare feet on stone. Whatever is behind you is moving quickly. At an estimate, it will take an average of 2-3 rounds to climb the rope, and you cannot all start climbing at once.

What do you want to do?

Sorry for my absence. I wasn't sure what the state of the game was and after some days of inactivity I kind of just forgot about it. However, I'm still very interested if this is still going forward, which it sounds like it is.

Murq will follow the rest and climb that rope as fast as he can.

Grim snarls. "DEFEND THE DOORWAY!" Grim takes up a blocking position by the door. "Here, Murq! Jedak!"

Cisneros positions himself some 20 feet away from the door and prepares to try out some magic. If there's any way he can use Color Spray, he'll give it a shot.

Daryll lights a torch, lays it down gently (so it's still alight) then lights another.

On my phone so DM please roll for me, Daryll will burn luck aggressively to throw torches and hit/kill any baddies.

Right now, what I have for a plan is:

Meanwhile, Murq and Cisneros are vying to see who can get to the rope first.

If this is correct, I can start rolling dice.

Grim will exhort Murq and Jedak (how are you not at 10xp??) to help with the impending fight. "We've got to hold here! There's no time to all climb!"

(I went over the thread again yesterday; he missed being part of one the fights (the one where a recently undead person followed us though a door.))

Jedak takes up a spot next to Grim, his torch shaking uneasily in his hands. "I'd sell my soul for a couple flasks of oil right about now", he mutters grimly under his breath. He looks over at Grim, a smile on his face that's only mostly forced; "this still beats farming parsnips!"

How serious is Jedak about that? Indeed, he has a sense that the pressing darkness about him wants to know, and time seems to slow to a crawl while it waits for his response.

The images, the smells, and worst of all the sounds of people, people he knew, being butchered and eaten ... try as he might, Jedak cannot push them aside, nor the image of himself and the other survivors being killed and eaten, hopefully in that order. For the fallen he offers the briefest of prayers, that they fully knew death before the undead set to their grisly meal.

To the pressing darkness he whispers a single word; "Yes."

Eyes appear in the darkness, reflecting your lights like those of a feral beast. Moving quickly forward, the two un-dead creatures that recently ate your companions become visible. One of them has a horribly distended belly, dragging down from its emaciated flesh to mid-thigh. The other's bowels have long ago ruptured, and it drips bits and pieces of meat and gore as it moves, leaving a trail of the recently devoured back into the darkness.

As Jedak whispers "Yes" to the pressing darkness, he hears a voice whisper back to him:

"Then open to me, heart, soul, and shadow, and yet will I save thee."

It is an old voice, older than the halls you travel, weak-sounding, but perhaps with some hidden strength at its core.

"Now for it, you crawling things! Come taste your final end in the steel of my hammer!" Grim says, shouting a battle cry.

DM you can roll my initiative and attacks etc. Grimm's deed will be to kneecap/trip whichever engages him, and he'll shield bash the other. Daryll will throw a torch and aggressively burn luck to hit and do 8+ damage.
