At Initiative 19, the creatures attack again. There is only room for three in the corridor, so one remains moaning behind the others.

Against Sigur, a natural 1. In its haste, and with the close press of bodies, the creature falls down! The creature waiting in the wings instantly makes use of that space, trampling the prone creature, and attempting to attack Sigur. It has a -2 penalty because of the creature writhing beneath it, but rolls a 12 + 1 - 2 = 11. Sigur takes 5 points of damage.

Against Dugar, an 8 +1 = 9. Against Jedak, a 2 + 1 = 3.

Jedak hits, but no one bothered to give him a light, so he does 3 points of damage. That creature does not fall, but the one Sigur hits most certainly does as he smashes his opponent's forehead with his torch, caving it in.

Murq has a chance to take a swing, and hits, but does not drop his foe.

Murq is going to pull off his signature move: the 'knee hop slap chop' (if you could envision this: he hops forward with his left foot first, followed quickly by his right; while in the air he slaps his left knee with his left hand and then crashes his right hand down - with hammer - on the target).

Initiative = 11
Attack = 5
Damage = 2

Sigur falls to the ground, dying in a pool of his own blood. The creature who attacked Dugar struck him, his fate as yet unknown ...

When the next round comes up, Initiative: 5.

Jedak will scream and hurl himself at the nearest creature [To Hit: 8, Dmg if successful: 2].

Initiative: 15 + 1 = 16.

Daryll will bash the nearest one with his torch. 15 + 1 = 16 to hit, 2 + 1 = 3 club damage, 2 fire damage.

Cisneros will try to position himself away from the creatures. "Ey think we should flee!"

The dwarves will roar battle cries in their native tongue and attack with determination!

Grim attacks with his hammer and rolls a natural 20 to hit! 3 damage, critical result: 2 (+1d4 damage, jabbed in eye), an additional 1 damage.

Pikar attacks with his torch. 10 - 1 = 9 to hit, but he'll burn however much luck he needs to make it a hit. He's got up to 8 (assuming we can burn down to 1) to use. Damage = 4 - 1 = 3 club damage, 1 fire damage. Just let me know what his new luck score is.

At 16, Daryll, Grim, and Pikar try to attack, but there is only room for three abreast in the corridor, and those spots are taken! Do they feel left out? They need not, for at that time two beetles, each about three feet long, attack from behind. Cisneros is barely missed by the slicing mandibles of one beetle, which rolls an 8, but the one attacking Pikar rolls a 14 and does 2 points of damage. Sadly, the adventurers are surprised by this attack from an unexpected quarter, and cannot use their waiting attacks against these new foes!

At 15, Dugar strikes for 4 points of damage, which damages, but does not fell, one of the un-dead.

Murq then performs the knee hop slap chop -- poorly, for he misses with a 5.

At 6, the two standing un-dead begin to consume Sigur, with ravening bites, and tearing long strips of meat from the hapless adventurer. They seem to be ignoring the rest of the party for the moment. The prone undead pulls itself the the feast, allowing Dugar, Murq, and Jedak to make a free attack.

Jedak misses his regular attack, but may still make a free attack.

Minor correction: I wrote what I wrote about Dugar above "The creature who attacked Dugar struck him, his fate as yet unknown" because I checked his AC and 9 hits, but I didn't know for how much. Silly me, I later checked his HP and he has 1, so it didn't really matter for how much ... :lol:

Jedak seized the opportunity before him, striking furiously at the inattentive undead before him [ToHit: 11, Dmg (if successful): 5, Fire: 6].

"Pikar! Nooooo!" Grim is enraged at the sight of his cousin's death.

Next round initiative: 1d20 + 1 = 5 (ugh...).

I'm assuming there's no room to fleet past the beetles... so it's kill or be killed. If they CAN flee somehow without being attacked, Daryll and Cisneros will do so, and try to head back north in the direction they came from to get out... If not, see below.

Daryll will try to pick up Pikar's shield and hit a beetle with his club.
d20+1 = 7, so he'll whiff.

Cisneros whispers a prayer to the elven gods and attacks with his staff, unless he can somehow get behind Grim and Daryll without getting attacked by the beetles. If he cannot, his attack is d20 = 4, so he'll miss too. Drat.

Grim will do the best he can to slay a foul beetle. d20 = 4 !

Oof, tough round!

Murq, embarrassed by his failure to impress, brings the hammer down in anger against the un-dead foe ripping into the other adventurer.

Jedak's free attack misses by 1...would you like to spend a point of Luck?

Before I narrate the next round of combat, info for Daryll and Cisneros: The un-dead have begun feasting on the fallen, and they block the corridor that leads east (and then north). They seem slobberingly distracted, so you might attempt to flee that way....although doing so may give the beetles a free attack on Cisneros (who is already engaged).

In that case, the dead thing begins to rise, to join in the feast, but does not do so, and it sinks again, unmoving, under the force of the blow. The two remaining un-dead seem not to care.

Daryll and Cisneros, will you try to escape past the un-dead, or will you turn to fight?

Discretion is the better part of valor... Daryll and Cisneros will flee.

Grim will try to kill the beetles, I suppose.

Sorry; I have had some difficulties getting online. My home service provider had a difficulty (which should be resolved today). I wasn't too worried about it, though, as I was going away to my folks in Wisconsin, and thought I'd have had better Internet access than I actually did. I would have warned you otherwise.

Back to the game.

Let me make sure that I understand what is happening here.

Murq is attempting to attack.

Daryll and Cisneros will attempt to flee past the feasting un-dead. Cisneros will suffer an extra attack as a result, because he is engaged with a beetle. Grim will attack a beetle.

Is any other character taking an action this round?

Grim, seeing that this is largely hopeless, will flee, too. If there is a way to burn Luck to increase odds of escaping unscathed, they'll do it.

Unfortunately, the beetle attacking Cisneros gets a free attack as he flees, and rolls a 19 for 1 point of damage.

One of the remaining un-dead looks up and snarls as the characters rush by, but the other does not even do that. By this point, the flesh is more than half stripped from the first body, and one of the un-dead can be seen moving toward Pikar as the characters rush away.

The beetles do not (immediately) pursue. You make it around the corner; the door in front of you is open.

All survivors may have 4 XP.
