The group resolves to rest until Ablseforth awakes, the cave now secured and providing relative safety against most external threats.

Five more nights pass before Ablesforth comes to a weak, hungry, and groggy consciousness (at 1hp). In the meantime, Idriss and Sprinkles have both fully recovered from their injuries.

As the only resident wizard, Idriss casts Read Magic and studies the three scrolls. (None are clerical.)

Please subtract six more days rations each. If you perform downtime actions, go ahead and narrate them.

If nobody else is willing to save rations in this way, at least Rhybek will cook up (almost to the point of "overcook", just to make sure it is safe) the larvae to eat.

He would also take the time each day to forage for food, as long as they are holed up and waiting for their cleric to awaken.

Ablesforth struggles onto his elbows, looking wan for the effort.Don't think I've et' more'n a coupl'a meals since we left town. He drinks from his wineskin, washing down a few mouthfuls of food from his kit. Once he has eaten he offers thanks to the group for carrying him to the cave and protecting him. It'll be a mighty humbling confession I give when I'm back to town. Spent most of the time on m'back, tended to by the lot of you. He grins at the party and apologizes again to Fingers for his behavior from before the raid on the flies. Then he hangs his holy symbol on a rock and prays to Erruana.



We've been out for at least a week now. Should we scratch off our fresh rations since they only last 7 days? I'll subtract one more day of preserved rations too, leaving Able at 4 days of food left.

When he is done praying, Ablesforth looks much healthier, albeit still pale from his recent blood loss. He nods in appreciation to Neegan, then looks the others over to see if anyone else needs Eruanna's healing gift, but seeing the others all healed up, So what's the plan then? I been holding you all up long enough and can start hiking to wherever, whenever.

Ablesforth has 3 large sacks for the loot.

@ Marullus: How does potion identification work in this game? Is it the "taste it and find out" method, and if so, does that use a sip? If he can taste it to ID them without it impact on the amount in the vial, Able will go ahead and do that (if it smells okay).

Yes, it is a sip-and-see in LLBasic. It doesn't use a sip because most potions need to be quaffed whole.

Ablesforth sips the potion and feels more hale. 2 potions of healing.

Huh. This stuff makes me feel... Well I guess I'd call it "hale." Which is lucky, because I keep getting beat up good. So you lot can use it next time I'm flat on my back.

Rhybek nods in agreement. "Agreed. This pittance barely covers my expenses, once we divide it all up between us. But now that we have a base of operations to work from, I say we continue circling around the town to see if there is another tunnel that has been turned into a lair. Maybe we can earn some coin without entering the town..."

"That's okay with me," says Fingers. "Last time we tried to get to the towers we got our butts kicked with traps."

Rhybek nods. "Let's see what we can see, then!"

He begins moving around the perimeter of the town, away from the dragons, towards what he supposes will be the location of the next sapping tunnel.

The group packs up after their week in the fly's cave, packing the coins out on Rhybek's pony and with Idriss carrying the three scrolls. You set out clockwise around the city, looking for the next sapper tunnel. It takes a little under an hour to move from south to southwest, the dwarven tunnel-work predictably appearing ahead of you at an even interval.

You see some large things between the rockberry bushes ahead of you and pause. It shuffles forward, like an elephant's flat back. Then the first stands up, and the other next to the first. Two hill giants wipe sweat from their brows and hoot to each other in their deep base language. They look out and see you standing against the plain, yelling a warning. More voices respond in the cave. The first giant gives an unfriendly shout in your direction.

Huh. Well we know where those two giants were headed then. Just amazing, ain't they? Ablesforth waves to the giants, showing empty hands, trying to communicate as he back away from them.
Gist of message in chaotic:

Better give 'em a wide berth, brothers.

For what it is worth, Able doesn't need a full share of the coin we've gathered so far and would have mentioned that at the last campsite. He can stay in town and eat for free, and he has a small amount of money to buy more food, anyhow.
