Down The Well

You assemble after two days in the golden oak taproom of The Yawning Portal . As always the huge well, rimmed by torchlight stands in the center of the room, the somber namesake of the rowdy bar.

Each of you pays your 1gp and then you go through the lengthy process of descending down from the heat and light into the cool, dark, dungeon. At the bottom of the well you congregate in the sandy bottom of the well. Garl quickly spots 4sp in the sand, perhaps a patron dropped the coins into the well.

After the last of you is in, the chain hoist begins rising up and is quick lost in the dark. The low rattle of the hoist mechanism and the patrons of the bar toasting you are noiw barely audible...

*forward into the forest of pillars? And then?*

Garl peers into the darkness. Making a motion to the others to wait and be quiet he slips into the hallway and heads far enough down that the presence of the party no longer distracts him. Taking care to move silently and conceal himself he pauses and listens intently. What if anything do these paths contain? After making his assessment he takes as much care returning and reveals his findings to the group.

Enoka:

"Ooh! This place is so cozy. So much better than above. What's that my dears? You like it down here as well. I thought you would. Soon children this will be all yours to live free of intruders."

Tella - Elf Mage

Ah, the old sites and smells... Tella will say adjusting her pack. Let's see who's home.

OCC: gp deducted.

Roseheart nods at Garl's initiative to take point and turns to speak to no one in particular, "I like him already..."

Isabella cautiously looks around, and then after Garl moves off alone, she unpacks her lantern, fills it with oil (1 flask deducted), lights it and holds it up so she can see a little better. She then loosens the longsword on her back and prepares to move out, willing to follow the others' lead since they seem to be veterans of this dungeon.

Garl takes three short trips off the Forest of Pillars Room. To the north there are a couple of paths unexplored, and Tells map does show a path up to the Hall Of Stairs and the Drow Altar room.

To the south is a long hallway, there are no sounds except far away rumbles or creaks. To the west is a hallway with many mirrors, some of them are broken. Again, Garl hears nothing important. So far the dungeon seems silent and any monsters must be a way off right now.

Garl does not like the look of either the long hallway nor the broken mirrors...but the drow alter does not seem much better. Returning to the group he reports "Things are very quiet, perhaps this is a sign. We will go to a long hallway. When we reach it I will scout ahead, prepare to defend yourselves should something follow me back of come from behind.".

With that Garl will lead the party and then slip back into the dungeon to scout ahead.

Just to clarify, you mean the long hallway heading south right?

You creep down the southern hallway. There is a branching path leading to your right, and then the tunnel comes to a halt and turns sharply left! The left hand turn seems like it might lead over to the tunnel leading to the Snake Lady, but you'd have to push on further to double check

The right hand tunnel seems to be unexplored territory. You don't hear any noises from down that area, but you do see a short length (perhaps 3 feet) of very coarse/heavy iron chain links. They aren't attached to anything, and seem pretty rusty...

Garl will hide in the shadows, detect noise, and then move silently back to the party. Assuming he find nothing new out he will explain what he found and counsel the path of broken chains. Leading the party to where he has already expired he will continue hiding in the shadows and moving silently. When he gets far enough ahead he will detect noise and either report back or head on if there is nothing further.

Also he will stop every 10 to 20 feet and check for traps.

Isabella keeps her lantern high to light the way for her and her dark-blindness companions. Feeling vulnerable, she draws her sword and relishes in the weight of it.

Garl heads down the hallway past the chasing it twists quickly turning back upon itself, and then Garl finds a door on his left. The corridor also opens up into a room a little further down.

Moving silently Garl will hide in the shadows, then detect noise and find traps on the door and the immediate vicinity. Once he finishes he will return and report.

No traps on the door, and you don't hear anything odd at this time. There is a tremendous riot of far away noise in the dungeon. It sounds like lots of doors, far off being slammed open and shut.
