As Silva attempts to use Tevez's body as a shield against the dark scorpion, it grabs the corpse with both pincers, attempting to pull it off into the shadows. Silva strikes at the creature, missing, and it stabs at him with its stinger (2), also missing. Alexatros attempts to damage it, but also misses. The creature lets go of Tevez and raises tail and claws in a threatening posture.

Silva backs up also and pulls out his bow to shoot the beast. Init 5 roll 6. Thunks into the dying tevez. Oh well. Silva knocks another arrow!

Alexatros strikes with his staff, (10 – 1 = 9) missing as the wood slides off the creature’s now-stinking carapace. The scorpion attempts reprisal, rolling an 8 and a 15 with its claws, and another 8 with its sting. The claw hit does 1 point of damage.

Silva backs off, then shoots an arrow, missing the scorpion.

Now, in DCC, when you fire into melee and miss, you have a 50% chance to hit an ally instead. That chance comes up, and the roll against Alexatros is…..a 7. Very lucky, as Alexatros is down to his last hit point! The arrow wings past him, uncomfortably close, and thunks into Tevez's body.

Alexatros will burn six luck to add to his attack roll.

Okay; in that case Alexatros will hit, for 1d4-1 damage (roll of 2, for 1 point). The creature maintains its tenuous grip on life!

(sometimes when I roll a crit I feel like standing up and giving an acceptance speech. But all there is to say is Huzzah.)

Huzzah for Silva, who also gets a natural 20 on his Initiative and fires before aught else occurs! Silva's Crit roll is a 1; as the scorpion attacked at the end of last round, it exposed itself to a clear shot, doing an additional 1d3 (3) points of damage. Even were Silva unable to do other damage, this would have been enough to slay the thing. With the damage from the shot itself (5), Silva skewers it neatly, and it falls into a stinking mass on the floor.

An oily cloud of noxious fumes rises from the dead creature, rolling across the floor in all directions, before the size of the barrow chamber makes it grow wispy and thin. The stench lingers for some time.

Silva and Alexatros each gain 4 XP. Toothy Herman, for at least climbing up and witnessing the end, gains 1 XP.

Silva holds his nose and carefully looks into the scorpions hole to see if it has any loot.
He will carefully gather whatevers there (using the shortsword) then pull tevezs corpse out of into the fresh air and loot his corpse. The beggar has no family so silva will just bury him under a rock nearby (with and ep on his tongue to pay the boatman)

Only a few bits of chitin and a an oily, smelly sludge remain of the jet-black scorpion. The arrow that felled it is burned away, and the arrowhead twisted and pitted.

Remember that the benefits of XP in this game are gained immediately.
