Re: OOC and admin stuff
Have posted initial back story and character on the forum, but we need to flesh them out more so to speak. Are you using the same GURPS lite rules that can be found on Rukellans GURPs SAO forum or another?
GURPS_Lite_(Fourth_Edition).pdf [1.64 MiB]
It seemed a good start so I have begun with 100 points to chop and change traits, abilities and characteristics. Hope that is okay.

Hey all. I'm still with you. Just trying to come up with a decent character concept. The rest of you have raised the bar pretty high, too. I like the characters you've come up with.
Re: OOC and admin stuff
Cyborg Cowboy who travels back in time to sword fight. Worships a doom-train that runs on the souls of mages. Never mind, I already know about 30 people who have used that concept. Worst part is, this is not a joke.
Re: OOC and admin stuff
Heh. I was thinking of some sort of old west cowboy, although not a cyborg.

My character suggests you "Save a horse, ride a cowboy."
Re: OOC and admin stuff
Someone from the past would be a good balance. The rest of us all hail from the present or future, right? And it looks like none of opted for magic. Maybe a Weird West character?
Re: OOC and admin stuff
The book has a death-machine turned potter and an assassin monk (plus Adolph Hitler, looking for the timeline where he won). And, of course, there's the ever popular space cowboy. In the tradition of juxtaposing seemingly disparate archetypes, maybe I could do one of the following:
Judas Iscariot, Long-Haul Trucker
Socrates the Vampire Slayer
Any character ever played by Humphrey Bogart.
Or maybe my character could be a book of poetry like Leaves of Grass and Flowers of Evil. Like Where the Sidewalk Ends or Fables for Our Time.
Too many darn options.

Re: OOC and admin stuff
Speaking of characters from the past and Zelazny stories, The Last Defender of Camelot is another really good one.
Hm, maybe I could bring Lancelot from that one into Roadmarks. He's still trying to find the Holy Grail. Wouldn't help much with magic, though.

Magic doesn't really exist, it is all smoke and mirrors.

Re: OOC and admin stuff
Axel does have magic, just more focused on social interactions. Less boom, more subtle.
Re: OOC and admin stuff
I should clarify that my character will maintain that magic does not exist...or maybe he won't.
Re: OOC and admin stuff
I'm sort of liking the Launcelot idea. Any thoughts? Should I maybe avoid an actual mythological figure? The Holy Grail thing is kind of the cool tie-in, but maybe having someone who was supposed to be nigh-unbeatable is a problem.
Also, I have no idea how I'd translate that concept to GURP stats.

A mythical knight on a quest is great idea. Specific Arthurian knights can be tricky to play because they... well, they have more virtue than character. Id suggest looking for the knight that you feel like you can most easily/richly invest with humanity. If that's Lancelot, then alright!
Re: OOC and admin stuff
Lancelot is the most interesting of them, I think. The conflict between virtue and having the hots for his King's wife makes him more fleshed out (as it were) than, say, Percival or Gawain or Galahad, who I can't actually remember anything about at the moment (other than "Let me go back and face the peril," which isn't exactly what I'm looking for).
I suppose I could use a non-Arthurian-canon chivalrous knight with guilt over a moment of sin who is on a quest to find the Holy McGuffin, but at that point, why not just stop pretending it's modeled after a particular character?

Aw, man: What if Humphrey Bogart was Lancelot?Zhym wrote: Any character ever played by Humphrey Bogart.
And Lauren Bacall was Guinevere?
Re: OOC and admin stuff
I'm having a hard time picturing Humphrey Bogart as Lancelot.
Re: OOC and admin stuff
Think Castiel.

You neglected to say that several Bunnies were still in the back of the bus, doing lines and having an orgy, and are enthusiastic about sharing with mysterious strangers.
