V. Going Underground
Re: V. Going Underground
Round 5
Sasha, fearing for her life, acts quickly, but her finds her blade ineffective against the heavy armor of her attacker.
"Wish I had a fire stick, Penny, but I carry lanterns. Can you make do with this?" Bingus asks, looking to pass his tinder box forward to Pendleton. "I just have a lantern too," the mage admits. "Dagg had a torch, but I can't get to it." he curses, while the pair continue to devise a plan to take advantage of Pendleton's well-placed oil strike moments earlier.
Down the eastern passage, Morgan hears Siirist approaching and ducks down to create an opportunity for a ranged attack. The elf has other plans, though, passing the crouching Morgan and shouldering past Phineas while he readies his last spear. "Where's that guy going?" the half man wonders aloud, firing an arrow at the distant guard, nicking him, and making him reconsider his position in "safety."
The guard with a sword slashes at Sasha, scraping her with his blade. Behind this first guard, the spear-wielding guard sticks his sabaton into Dagg's fallen form and, with a mighty thrust, kicks the dwarf off the rope bridge, sending him free falling into the depths of the chasm below. He steps into the vacated space and prepares to square off against Siirist. The other remaining guard, realizing his rearward position isn't safe from arrows, retreats back into the room from which the trio originally emerged.

Bingus pulls out his lantern and lights it. He breaks some of the glass around the flame and hands it to Penny. "My aim's so bad I don't think I could hit the bottom of this chasm. Maybe you can hit the oily fella!"
Re: V. Going Underground
"I shall try," says Pendleton, taking the lantern. He gives it a heave...
Thrown lantern (L1, AC 3): [1d20+4] = 3+4 = 7
...right into the chasm.

Phineas T. Codswallop, impresario:
"Unfortunately, the trajectory of my true-aimed projectiles has been lamentably compromised!" Phineas exclaims, his mighty mustache drooping in abject sorrow.
Left behind by the stampede, and with no way to attack a foe or help a friend, the self-described diligent, entrepreneurial self-starter turns and quietly walks east (to 26 or beyond), trying to find clues that would explain what this amazing, wondrous place is, and who these impressive, exotic warriors are. Perhaps understanding them could help defeat them.
Also, he wondered if any might be enticed into journeying to civilization to appear in a circus sideshow. And if not, whether there were any handy cages nearby.

Phineas thinks to himself: "Step right up, ladies and gentlefolk! Witness the ninth wonder of the world for only one thin silver piece! A dwarf selflessly gave his life to bring these miracles to you today! (Better make that 'a phalanx of dwarves.')
Tremble before the primitive savage barbaric jungle folk of Uncharted Island! And be astounded and amazed by the male amazons of a lost civilization hidden beneath that aforementioned jungle primeval!"
"Hmm. Needs work."

Round 6
Sasha tries unsuccessfully to eliminate the threat in front of her.
Behind the female warrior, Bingus pulls out his lantern and lights it. "My aim's so bad I don't think I could hit the bottom of this chasm. Maybe you can hit the oily fella!" he says while he breaks some of the glass around the flame and hands it to Penny. "I shall try," says Pendleton, taking the lantern and giving it a heave... right into the chasm.
Just off to Sasha's right, Siirist jabs at the guard that moments earlier just kicked Dagg into the chasm, now temporarily lit by Bingus's lantern, but finds penetrating the thick, protective metal covering to be too difficult.
Beyond the melee to the east, Morgan watches the conflict while Phineas begins to wander closer to the end of this eastern passage and begins examining the underground location the group now finds themselves in.
The angry armored guards retaliate. The sword-wielding guard lashes out at Sasha, opening another gash and leaving the female warrior feeling not-so-well... but better than Siirist, who feels the head of his adversary's spear run through his gut, then twist! Losing consciousness is probably a blessing as the deadly guard, whom had previously shown little mercy on Dagg, swings his spear over the side of the rope bridge with the elf still attached to it and pull back on the spear quickly, sending the elf's lifeless form falling into the darkness of the chasm below. While Morgan cannot see it through the visor of the plate helm the guard is wearing, she is convinced he is smiling evily.
Sorry, The (not-so-)Immoral Chanticleer!

Re: V. Going Underground
"Bingus, perhaps you should climb up and out of here," suggests Pendleton. "I will try throwing my lantern. If that doesn't work, fleeing may be our only option."
The gentleman scholar has fear in his eyes as he shakily lights his lantern. "An expensive way to light a fire, but we're running out of fighters," he says to himself. He heaves the lantern...
Thrown lantern (L1, AC 3): [1d20+4] = 6+4 = 10
...which crashes against the wall on the far side of the chasm.
Then Pendleton gets one last desperate idea. "Whistles! Blow your whistles! The tribesmen hated it. Maybe these armored men will too!" He raises his to his lips and blows as hard as he can (if that's not too many actions for one round).

Re: V. Going Underground
Fear swirls throughout the mage's body and concentrates as a lump in his throat. "Run!" Bingus croaks as he climbs 5' up the ladder, hanging on and watching the fight.
Re: V. Going Underground
"What're you hanging there gawking for?" asks Pendleton with uncharacteristic terseness. "Get out of here! Or at least get our of my way, because I intend to be topside as soon as I can manage!"

Phineas looked over his shoulder as another fighter was grimly fed to the patient maw of the chasm.
Cut off and still unable to target any foe, the miniature man muttered, "My egress is blockaded! It might be sagacious to establish an alternate boulevard to this labyrinth's exterior."
Phineas silently checked his path for traps and advanced deeper into this mysterious place (to 32 or further), listening intently to the sounds of the battle.
Is there a light source down this southern tunnel?

Re: V. Going Underground
Sasha fully expects to be the next one skewered into the chasm.
No longer having a whistle, she parries blows as she tries to imbibe her last healing potion.
If you two heroes are still behind me, GET OUT OF HERE!!!
She silently curses the idiot dwarf again for frivolously opening the door of death.

Bingus, seeing no way to help his friends, climbs the ladder to the surface. Once he gets topside, he rolls over and peers down into the hole with his dagger ready, chest heaving with sobs of sorrow and anger.

Dagg finally goes splat at the bottom of the chasm.

Round 7
Near the rope ladder beneath the entrance, Bingus begins to hear the calls to resurface and, as fear begins to settle in, he climbs 5-feet before stopping to hang and watch the fight. Pendleton, with fear in his eyes as he shakily lights his lantern and tosses it wildly; the glass shattering as it caroms off the cavern wall without producing the intended affect. "Whistles! Blow your whistles!" the wizard cries as he brings his own to his lips and blows as hard as he can. The sound echoes as it reverberates throughout the cavern, dislodging another set of three previously docile bats which clung to the ceiling above... but does not have the same effect on the guards as it did the tribesmen. The bats flutter about, but seem disoriented and do not appear to be immediate threats.
Sasha, still felling the sting from the last wound she was dealt, fumbles inside her pack and produces her last potion of healing, which she partially spills while attempting to drink and parry the oncoming attack at the same time. "If you two heroes are still behind me, GET OUT OF HERE!!!" she cries.
Morgan, with an armored spearman now threatening her, lashes out at the oncoming adversary but finds the protective covering too difficult to penetrate.
Further east, cut off from anyone except Morgan, Phineas proves he wants no part of combat and disappears around the corner heading south, which he quickly discovers is completely unlit.
The guards retaliate, and Sasha is able to find off the attack of her sword-wielding adversary, but Morgan isn't so lucky as she feels the tip of the guards spear find a vulnerability in her own armor, and a warm pooling of blood slowly begin form beneath her own plate mail protection.

Phineas T. Codswallop, impresario:
Unable to find anything to help, Phineas returns to the main tunnel (at 20) and waits for a clear shot with his bow.
If he can safely loose a high, arcing arrow at either of the armored foes, he will try.
