Elam Xav; Human male Thief/Cleric

Elam glanced sidelong at the bears eating the food Jack had just laid out and casually took a long sidestep further away from the pair.

Looking at the polymorphed ancient-boy-wizard and his pack of invisible faeries, he sighs and with a grin says to no-one in particular; "Is it just me.....or does anyone else feel like they just wandered into a bedtime story come to life?"

Arnar watches the sparrow fly off and mutters, "FOLLOW 'em, eh?"

Nobody sees him shake his head slowly from side to side in disbelief.

"softly softly catches the monkey so they say, even softer will be needed to catch big foot over there" says a tumble of bracken, moss and weed which rises from the damp earth. It crouches nearby and motions with an elkhorn bow slightly raised pointing in the camp direction. Phaeus, wipes an arm across a smudged face cleaning off woad face ink and rolls up his covering camouflaged scrim net, leaf and twig still clinging to his clothes and hair. "gentlemen, I believe I am at your service"

Mere yards from the Steading, just south of it (as the Guard Tower is on the southern wall) and near the Main Entrance (see map above, or in Maps Thread). The main dirt road (really a wide dirt giant path) is East of you (to your right as you are looking at the Steading.

After discussion in the Strategy Thread, I'm moving y'all northward to the high grasses yards from the Steading. We will say you started upon arrival.

As they discuss strategy on what to do about the Steading, the party heads north. As promised by the spies and the druids animal friends, they are unmolested in this trek. A light rain starts to fall, and the dinner at the Steading starts to get real raucous. Mostly cheering and singing. Arnar grimaces invisibly to himself, he knows the party is only just beginning and that Ale is wasted on giants. He then smiles, pretty certain the ale won't be good. The sun is fully set at this point, and it's pretty dark considering the cloud cover. There are no windows on this part of the Steading, except up in the lookout tower. There is some light in the lookout tower, and some light coming out of the crack at the bottom of the Main Entrance doors, as best as you can tell. There doesn't seem to be movement up in the lookout tower.

As they settle in, with Jack playing with his bears, to discuss how to get in, the ranger joins the group. Also, as reported, there do not seem to be any guards at the Main Entrance. The spies were certain that this was normally the case, they repeated it several times - two guards, never seemed to be left unmanned for longer than 10 minutes. Jack then transforms instantly into a bird and with his septuple sprite guard, flies to the top of the tower. Elam and Arnar crack-wise as they watch Jack go.

PM to Inferno. I hope to keep y'all moving as promised.
Now that the Ranger is in, I'll start copying Character Sheets (yeah, I haven't done that yet) but Equipment Lists will be SET once you enter the Steading.
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

Jack, boy magic-user/druid:

Suddenly Jack appeared again amongst the party, pulling back the hood of his elven cloak from his young, freckled face. He was human again, and seven sprites appeared beside him.

"The coast is clear!" he grinned. "We found one smelly giant snoring in the watchtower.
"My friends here," he said, indicating the sprites with his lively green eyes, "were thoughtful enough to pierce him with magic arrows of slumber, to make sure that we wouldn't interrupt his much-deserved rest, the poor overworked fellow.
"He wears a golden, bejeweled belt,"
Jack added with feigned nonchalance in a transparent attempt to lure the grownups to action.

"Let's go. The way is clear, and the giants drink themselves stupid...er!"

Phaeus will make no fuss, silently pulling over his cloak which seems to suddenly disfigure and misshape his whereabouts he will venture forth and be ready to climb the rope when it is fixed to the watch tower curtain wall.

Once a rope is attached, Arnar will climb to the tower. If they can dispatch the sleeping giant without waking it, he will do so.

Jack, boy magic-user/druid:

Jack asks the mischievous sprites to bring the rope and tie it to something sturdy atop the watchtower. "Not the giant. Or his gong. Or his stick. Or his chair. Or... "
Jack decided he'd better go along.

"Beorn, Ursa, follow these nice people," Jack said to the black bears. "But don't eat them!"

Jack magically transformed into a sparrow again and flew joyfully back to the watchtower roof with the owl and the invisible sprite escort, doing some excellent loop-the-loops on the way.

Assuming nothing had changed in the watchtower since he's been gone, he'd resume the boy shape in the tower, accept the rope from the sprites, pull the Elven cloak's hood up, tie the rope securely to something sturdy and non-living, and throw the other end down to the ground... Without waking the slumbering giant.
"Elam was right," Jack thought. "This is a story book!" All that was missing was the beanstalk.

"Damn bears might get in the way, giving us away. Send them to stay in yonder pasture...we can give them a bone or two to munch on later. Any noise from them and we will all be wearing new winter coats." Phaeus is concerned the grizzlies will awaken the guards and catch us flat footed while we climb up the rope.

Elam Xav; Human male Thief/Cleric

Elam will follow the party; doing his best to keep an alert eye and ear out for any signs of unexpected danger. Upon the question of the bears coming up he will say; "Well; I have a spell which can keep them silent....but I know little of animals; this might drive them to an uncontrollable state. Thoughts?"

"I assume the giants are used to the sounds of wild animals and won't be bothered by them, if they could hear the sounds of rustling fur over the raucous they're causing with their meal," Arnar replies quietly.

"They can't follow us in, anyway, if we go up through the tower..."

The bears are really slow. It's possible we'll all be in the tower before they reach it.
At that point, since they can't climb ropes, Jack could send them to the far side of the steading to cause a ruckus and rile up the warg pen, if we want a diversion.

Max, my two cents: I wouldn't waste the silence spell at this point. Thanks.

In the Guard Tower of the Steading of the Hill Giant Chief.

.

Quicker with their strategy discussions, the party climbs into the tower. Though there is grunting and groaning, and clanking of armor and weapons, and some mumbling (from no one in particular) about this "being a stealth mission" the party squeezes themselves into this 40' by 40' area, with one 12' tall sleeping giant. Upon entering the tower, the dwarf ends the giants slumber, and his life, permanently. Perhaps buttressed somewhat by the height, the sounds of the party, now in full swing, seem to be no louder here than they were standing right outside the tower walls. The rain is pretty steady at this point, and the giant is propped against the wall obviously snoring away. There is some moonlight filtering through the cloud cover, but not much. Every once in a while a shout or cheer from the party, which is definitely north of the tower, makes a party member jump. There is a opening in the floor in the southwest corner of the room to the stairs leading down. The giant is at "X" on the map, snoring away with an empty flagon in his lap dead as a doornail. He is sitting propped up in a chair in the corner, feet up on an empty table in front of him. Above his head is an iron hoop and straight bar, hanging on ropes attached to the ceiling. He is dressed in plain giant garb, no apparent pockets, pouches, or sacks, but he does have that neat-o belt buckle. While the belt is sturdy, but plain, the buckle appears to be made out of gold and inset with gems, three to the right and three to the left of center. It actually looks to be a pretty decently made piece of jewelry, possibly a buckle not being it's original function, but those of a more discerning eye can tell you it's worth more as one piece, then as 7 separate pieces (gold buckle plus six gems).
