Ch. 5: Plunging Deeper Into the Tomb

Malibran utters, "Well, Xale, I think you can count yourself lucky... you passed through a trap of the deadly lich with your life. Many of our comrades could not claim a similar success. If we can rest I can pray for the gods to remove the curse upon you. Perhaps that could be of aid....

In the meantime, do we abandon this archway in search of other secret passages to advance our way?"

[AleBelly]

Zoster shakes his head sadly. "Naught but fear, confusion and curses have come from these mists. Let's avoid them all if it can be helped."

He looks to Malibran. "I believe the plan is for Dredd to look for secret doors behind the trapped false ones. I don't know where to start, but perhaps a good place would be false doors that look as if they would open up into a wider area?"

[Inferno]

Dredd Doomsmith, dwarven trap-hacker:

"My condolences, brother." Dredd said with sorrow.

At Zoster's words, the dwarf rumbled, "Aye. Let's be on then," and trudged off, leading the way and checking for traps as he plodded along.

[Grognardsw]

Elsa the Fair, woman:

"Curse? Condolences? Are you all daft or just thinking with your cock?

CONGRATULATIONS Xale! Welcome to the sisterhood! Tis a blessing."

Heading back to check false doors seems to be the consensus. Where would you like to start?

Start with the closest one?
Or does the riddle tell us where to start?

You're basically on the right track, so let's fast forward past choosing a door.

Xale seems comfortable with her new gender identity, so you decide to move on. Remembering that the riddle said something about the false leading to the true, you carefully trace your way back to the intersecting hallways. Stepping cautiously around the pit in the intersection, you head north to the false door, suspecting that perhaps it is not the dead end it seems.

Elsa is the first to spot it: a small stone that, when pressed, swings the stone wall behind the door into a hallway beyond. The hallway continues 50', where double doors stand in the east wall.

Dredd Doomsmith, dwarven trap-hacker:

"Och!" Dredd gasped thickly. "The false is the true!
"It's obvious really, now that you think of it." he rationalized with a blustering huff.

The methodical dwarf will plod forward, checking thoroughly for traps on the floors, walls and ceilings, grunting and mumbling to himself as he went:

"If you find the false you find the true
and into the columned hall you'll come,
and there the throne that's key and keyed.
The iron men of visage grim do more than
meets the viewers eye.
You've left and left and found my Tomb
and now your soul will die."

If he makes it to the doors without finding a trap, he'll check them for traps as well.

Dredd again checks for traps ahead, moving slowly, methodically, painstakingly—mind-numbingly, one might say—down the hall.

He finds no traps in the hallway or on the doors.

Malibran follows behind checking walls floor and ceiling as best he can for other hidden portals.

[Zhym]

Malibran notices a circular seam in the floor just beyond the door through which you entered this hallway. A metal handle lifts out of it at one edge.

[AleBelly]

Zoster's face breaks into a wide grin. Then he remembers where he is and it fades quickly. "How about that? It worked! This must be the way. I don't think the riddle tells us much about which way to go - door or floor? The door looks more inviting to me."

[Inferno]

Dredd Doomsmith, dwarven trap-hacker:

Dredd bawled, "How could one so wise be so foolish! 'Tis the secret door. Always the secret door in this infernally duplicitous perdition."

The dwarf grunted vigorously as he stooped over to mind-numbingly check the secret door for traps.

[Zhym]

Dredd finds no traps on the trap door.

[AleBelly]

Zoster shrugs, as if to say "suit yourself!" He backs up 20 feet.

[Inferno]

Dredd Doomsmith, dwarven trap-hacker:

Unless Malibran would like to do the honors, Dredd will grip the handle of the secret trapdoor and, with a deep groan, give it a jerk.

Malibran steps backs and bows to Dredd, "After you good sir..."

[Zhym]

Dredd pulls the door open. Below the door, a steep flight of narrow stairs spiral down to a rough-hewn 5' wide passageway. Dredd leads the way down the passageway, methodically checking for traps as he goes. You eventually reach another set of stairs that lead down into a 10' corridor that runs north for a short way before turning east.

At the end of the hall is a solid metal door. The door is featureless except for three slots set about waist high.

What dimensions are they? Would they fit a sword blade? something larger or thinner?

They're each roughly half a foot tall and a couple of inches across. A sword blade would fit.
