Prologue: Strangers in a Strange Land
Re: Prologue: Strangers in a Strange Land
Calto, Disappointed Druid
Calto shakes his head at Jaguar’s lack of protection. It’s so hard to charm good help nowadays. Hopefully the savage will be a big enough target to block a few of these blow darts at least.
Will Calto need to direct his insects as his action this round? If so, his action will be to continue to direct them at a savage(s) on the other side of the Wind wall so they don’t attack the party.
If not, C-man will do the following:
The druid spins and calls upon the forest behind the party to seize any foul savages approaching from the rear.
Casting Entangle….

Grindhelm stands his ground and continues his attacks on the savages
Re: Prologue: Strangers in a Strange Land
Forgot to add my mosquito bite roll
mosquito bite: [1d100] = 59
Would Leomar know that the stairs aren't to the Shrine? Even if the savages aren;t afraid toe follow up the stairs, they still might provide a nice bottle neck...
Leomar continues to attack the savage in front of him.
Short sword to hit [1d20+2] = 10+2 = 12, damage [1d6+2] = 5+2 = 7

Re: Prologue: Strangers in a Strange Land
Ambush! - Round Two
In front of Siavel's sorcerous wind wall, Leomar the thief is up the stairs of the ruins, followed by a savage thrusting a spear at him. Leomar hacks down but the primitive ducks. His own spear thrust however is parried by the thief.
Grindhelm slashes at his savage with his axe, but is blocked by a stone axe-club. The savage grunts something and swings back, but the dwarf's slate mail repels the blow with stone-on-stone sparks.
Meanwhile, behind the wind wall... Defending the spell casters from rear attack, Blade Rain hews at the savage attacking him. The jungle barbarian blocks the blade with his club, then butts it into Blade Rain's ribs (2 HP.)
Azoth the cleric summons a shroud of darkness over the area while chanting "Camazotz! Camazotz! Camazotz!" in hopes the superstitious primitives believe it a manifestation of the bat god whose shrine terrified them. The priest of Nodens finds it difficult to bring the darkness down upon only the savages, as they are all engaged in melee with the adventurers. So for the moment the cloud of 40' darkness is above everyone almost at head level. The sight and sound of "Camazotz" does give pause to the savages as their morale struggles.
Next to Azoth is Siavel, who draws his bow and surveys the battle. The arrow will likely stray if fired at those beyond the wind wall, so the two targets behind him are better shots. The elf fires at the savage attacking Blade Rain. The arrow sinks into the primitive's thigh. He staggers some, the arrow jutting out from his leg, Blade's magic dagger stuck in his shoulder. Blue the giant weasel finishes off the savage it is attacked to.
The insect swarm summoned by Calto arrives, and the druid directs it to attack one of the net-holding savages. The swarm envelopes the man, biting (2 HP) and preventing him from doing anything but fend off the bugs. Having quickly directed the swarm, Calto then chants to the jungle. He calls forth branches, stems and roots to entangle those who stride the jungle surface. The battle scene in front of the wind wall erupts in living vegetation, entangling everyone, holding them fast in place.

Azoth Al-Aziz, occultic priest:
The dread priest stalked forward alongside Blade Rain and attacked the final free savage with the terrible Rod of Nodens.

Alex 'Blade Rain' Vam, human male Fighter
Alex hisses in annoyance and pain from the hit and with a snarl, he swings his broadsword with deadly intent at his opponent in the hopes of putting him down for good, so that he could retrieve his enchanted dagger….
OOC: For once, I am not at work and while I still can't access the dice roller here, I found another one on-line, a site called Rolz……here's my attack roll result (1d20+1 for Broadsword +1): 1D20+1 => 18
Damage roll result is (2d4+2 for Broadsword +1 and STR 16): 2D4+2 => 8
I hope this works, but here's the link and my rolls: https://rolz.org

Leomar continues to trade blows with the spear weilding savage on the stairs. "Persistant little bastard, aren't you?" he quips as he lunges forward. "Lets see how you fair with six inches of whale horn in your gullet!"

Siavel fires another arrow at any available target - including finishing off any trapped or held savage. Likewise, Blue tears into any available savage ,preferably one threatening another of the heroes.

Ambush! - Round Three
Azoth of Noden Faith stalks over to the savage fighting Blade Rain. Despite the arrow in his thigh and dagger in his shoulder, the savage wrathfully battles on. He staggers and swings his club. Blade Rain parries, slashes and gashes open his left arm. Finally the savage drops.
Leomar and his savage are entangled by vines on the stairs. The thief manages to swing his horn sword enough to draw blood.
Siavel the elf fires an arrow into a held savage, piercing his belly. Eventually the foliage-entangled and paralyzed savages are dispatched, all except one. Calto the druid ends the entanglement, freeing Bruno, Leomar and Grindhelm.
The peaceful native stands agog at the sorcerous powers of the adventurers. He then speaks urgently in his strange tongue, motioning for the group to follow to the hidden shrine.

Re: Prologue: Strangers in a Strange Land
Grindhelm continues to attack the savages to give his companions their chances to follow the friendly tribal man, as he refers to him now, to the shrine and will follow after all are led up.

Azoth Al-Aziz, occultic priest:
Leaving one Held cannibal alive beneath the roiling abyss of darkness to serve as a messenger to his people about what terrible might he witnessed here, Azoth will follow the friendly savage to the shrine. "Make haste, my friends."

Re: Prologue: Strangers in a Strange Land
Before moving on, Calto will acquire one of the attacker's strange blow guns and a few of the darts, taking care that the needles may be coated with poison.
Re: Prologue: Strangers in a Strange Land
Leomar will follow along with the others towards the Shrine.

Re: Prologue: Strangers in a Strange Land
The adventurers rush through the outer ruins toward the shrine. Some glance back, wary of pursuit. Are those shadows of more lurking savages? The baboon ambles along with Calto and screeches occasionally.
The ruins are monuments of past glory...
About 10 minutes into the walk, the party hears blood-curdling howling screams back from the battle place. It seems the savages came upon their dead comrades. The adventurers run and finally arrive at the shrine itself...

Bruno
Bruno takes in the view of the shrine ruins. He looks around taking it all in. Observing it's structural style an thinking how best to climb it.
"well there are stairs to the top, let's start there an work our way down. From the top we will have a better view of the landscape and any approaching savages. We take the high ground now an we live to explore the rest of the shrine later. Who's with me?"

Azoth Al-Aziz, occultic priest:
Azoth agreed with Bruno the Mad, "But let us rest awhile at the top, safe from the cannibals, until Nightwind, Moonslayer and I have recovered our magic power.
"Our strength must be fully restored before we descend into this accursed cathedral. Once inside, there could be no rest."
The arcane cleric addressed his companions: "Does anyone have need of mystical healing?"

Bruno the Mad
Bruno smiles a wicked smile at the Dark Priest of Noden;
"Sounds good to me Azoth Al-Aziz ! I could use a bit of down time me self to rest up and clean my weapons. Thank, Garl Glittergold that the damned rain has stopped!
