Chapter 05: The depths of despair

Who is holding the lit torch ?

last I knew it was Ox or Norbold.

[MonkeyWrench]

Jacob can hold the torch. Most of his stuff is one handed anyways.

Jacob hoists the torch and gets in line near the middle of the group as Korin opens the right door.

[Nordbo]

Korin swings open the door boldly. The occupants of the room seem surprised and quickly back up into the corner. They seem to have (at least one) big dog among them - but the torchlight doesn't reach far enough to light up the area fully.

One of them calls out "Wait! Stop! Wait!" in common, in Korin's direction.

[MonkeyWrench]

Jacob, surprised at the accent of the common speaker, speaks up himself, "Common? Who goes there! Step into the light!."

[Nordbo]

Korin, Jacob and Ox please roll 1d20.

Norbold (as NPC) NWP/skill/perception/general aptitude roll: [1d20] = 3

[MonkeyWrench]

Something Roll: [1d20] = 17

[GreyWolfVT]

Korin Save or other d20 needs [1d20] = 17

Ox- Who is in there!

[Nordbo]

Norbold's acute sense of perception makes him realise who the group is facing. "Look, they are gobl" he hisses to the others.

It''s still difficult for the others to make out who the cornered group consists of, but a voice continues to call out in common towards Korin & co.: "Wait! No more fighting. Wob wants no killing. We here, you there. Go home."

[MonkeyWrench]

Jacob speaks up, "And what of the woman you have trapped here? That is why we came in the first place."

[Nordbo]

The same voice among the group replies, in Common, : "The woman!? Why, she's <ooomph!>", interrupted mid-sentence by a punch from the others, who start yapping in Goblin: "Yazza! Yazza! D'aargh yazza Wob t'echran" obviously attempting to shut the first speaker up.

A scuffle erupts, with claws and snarls. Then, just as suddenly, the group is gone. They disappeared through a door in the corner. <Slam!>

[MonkeyWrench]

Jacob replies to the group, "Looks like some of them want to tell us but others are too scared of Wob. Up to you guys, we keep going or head out and let Wob have his princess or whatever she is?"

[GreyWolfVT]

Korin "I'd say we check what is in the other room before persuin' 'em."

[Dram]

Ox- Calls out in Goblin. We are here for the princess! Tell us where she is and we will let you live!He says to the others. Lets follow them. This Wob must be near.

[Nordbo]

Jacob "Up to you guys, we keep going or head out and let Wob have his princess or whatever she is?"

Korin "I'd say we check what is in the other room before persuin' 'em."

Ox "Lets follow them. This Wob must be near."

Result: Norbold agrees with Jacob. But Jacob suggested several things, so:

Norbold thinks one of Jacob's suggestions is the right one: "I say head out"

Korin opens the opposite door back at the T intersection. "Housekeeping!"

[MonkeyWrench]

Jacob turns to Norbold once Korin opens the door, shrugging to the man, "Looks like Korin made the choice for us." He'll then follow Korin, not wanting the dwarf to get separated and have his fingers chopped off...

[Dram]

Ox- Follows behind Jacob.

[Nordbo]

Norbold has no choice but to agree, but he sticks to the back: "Sure it's safe guys?"

In the torchlight, through the opening of the left door, the group sees a room that appears empty. In the opposite corner there is an opening, and to the right in the floor there seems to be a recess, hinting at a possible opening round the right corner. Having not yet entered the room fully, the group can't see the left corner or wall properly.

The musky smell of dog is now more apparent, perhaps now also mixed with another vaguely brutal animalistic stench. The draft is still mild but quite noticeable coming from the right. Some vague noises are heard somewhere in the distance.
