Okay, then. Outside and to the next cave to the south.

Not sure which one you mean. Can you post a map?

did you not want to check the south of the intersection? Or are you thinking there was no way on that way?

The heroes again note that the cave to the south of the intersection is also an empty barracks, with no apparent way in or out.

As they head outside, they notice that the pathway along the Rift is the most treacherous that they've seen. The water walking/winterlands boots-wearing party members are likely to be fine if they are able to walk undisturbed. But the remainder of the party will certainly face a risk of falling if they traverse the ledge without aid of some kind.

As they stand in the visible bubble that their protection magics have created, the party needs to decide how to navigate this ledge, if at all.

Gaerys can take some spikes and the lead end of a rope, and proceed carefully forward. Arqos could follow right behind to part insects. When they reach the mouth of the cave, Gaerys could anchor the rope to the ice with a spike, and the rest of the party could hold on to it on the way down. If there's a way to heat the spike a bit, that would make it more secure in the ice.

Thoughts?

That is what I was thinking a line of rope and spikes to help anchor us. Unless anyone has another way to get us all over this by any other means.

So let's do that. Anchor a rope where we are, then hold on to it on the way down.

"Good plan," says the small druid, petting his snow cat as he moves.

Flambeau keeps his weapon ready as he moves as well, chanting softly to the Lord of light

Sorry I was out for a bit there. I'm back. Is the party split up and if so which way did Andor go?

Brax takes out a few of his iron spikes and begins the task of setting an anchor as Throm and Krom start working out lengths of rope to tie to the anchor points.

Date: Autumn, 432 ca., Campaign Day 15
Time: 9:40
Weather: 12 degrees (f), howling wind (over 30 mph), visibility 70' (outside of plague)
Location: Entrance to Rift

*********************************
Magic in Effect (all cast as of 9:20, except PfL: 930)

Jinx: Call Lightning (lasts 10 turns; 1 bolt per turn; can cast again)
Protection from Lightning

Hollis: Insect Plague (lasts 9 turns)

Andor: PFE 10' R (lasts 9 turns; cast by Flam)
Arqos: Strength 18 (lasts 54 turns; cast by Andor)
Gaerys: Strength 18/20 (lasts 54 turns; cast by Andor)
Brax: Strength 18/10 (lasts 66 turns; cast by Vor)

*****************************************

Brax makes his way through part of the swarm within the "bubble" created by Andor's Protection spell. He diligently hammers a spike into the ice while his sergeants dutifully unwind a long length of rope.

It is ready to go...now other party members must take the next steps onto the ledge.

Arqos and Gaerys also work their way down. Each has a way to walk safely on the ice, so Gaerys keeps an eye out for enemies while Arqos makes sure the others don't fall.
