"Depends, if you deliberately go find a tree and wait out the fight, then yes, no treasure or experience for you.

But if you climbed the gate to the castle, so you could open the gate to let everyone else in, and then backstabbed the guard captain who was about to whack Sus."

from the wise word of our DM,
I suppose I can live with this ...

We can’t look at loot from a character point-of-view.
We have to be reasonable and divide the loot up equally.

Items going to who can use them, redundant or no longer useful items can be "handed down" to someone that can make use of them.
For example if you get a +2 ring, you can give someone your +1 ring.

Equally amongst those involved, right now its Thomas, Aria, and myself… in the case of this Ogre horde.

We can of course, were we to fight and win, give any items that we can’t use to Dan’s elf if/when we catch up to him.

To be fair to RT, it's not his fault that his horse spooked, and in any case a mage shouldn't necessarily be too involved in combat scenarios .. one good hit and RT is no longer any use to this or any other party.*

*Not to be interpreted as a free pass to avoid any and all fighting.

As a former hard-line-mage-runner... I can say that there are ways to get involved and not get killed.
Magic missiles never miss and don't hurt your team. A well places fireball where the diameter damage doesn't touch the team...

Being in the front line and Tumbling just to be a distraction... mirror image spell... light spell in the eyes of the monster... fairy fire... monster summoning... dancing lights... there are ways to help without doing or taking damage.

Not that it matters, I doubt either ogre has any staves of power on them. :p
Besides, I think this is getting blown out of proportion.
