Town Business (Vaul) - II

Continued from Town Business

This first post will also be regularly updated to reflect amenities available in town.

Current Amenities:

Inn:
5c per night for common room sleeping (shared)
1s per night for basic room accommodations (4 rooms available)
3s per night for suite accommodations (only 2 in the inn)
1s per night for stabling

Tavern:
Locally-brewed beer available 1c per mug.
Imported Southern Wine available for 1g per bottle. Not amazing stuff, but hard to come by.

General Store:
All supplies in the miscellaneous gear lists apart from vehicles and mounts are available at 20% markup (does not apply to starting equipment) due to remoteness of location and limited production.

Adventurer Trades:
-Single blacksmith with one apprentice. Metal goods from gear lists available at 20% markup, require crafting time except for very basic items.
-Single tailor/tanner with one apprentice. Leather and cloth goods available at 10% markup, require crafting time except for very basic items.

Industrial Trades: (for hire as needed)
2 Masons
2 Carpenters
3 Foresters
3 Hunters
10 General Laborers

Temple:
One Level 1 cleric with single Level 0 acolyte dedicated to Branwyn, Patron of the Southern Lords (a catch-all deity of order and goodness). No prayers or healing services available.

Wooden Keep:
Offices of the Arch-Duke - for audiences with Vaul, free of charge but usually uses up a day to have one.
Assessor's Office - Deeds for property (1% of assessed value, one year duration), Wills (100gp to create, 20gp to modify), Currency conversion to platinum (1% fee)

Mercenary Camp:
Visit the Tavern to hire, Mercenary Guild thread has information on mercenaries themselves.

Merchant Caravan:
Not in Vaul

Largo Goodbarrel, halfling adventurer and bearer of the magic dagger, takes a post as part of the duke's guard. He can be seen patrolling the streets at night, on the lookout for danger.

In the morning, Ulf visits the temple. He explains what happened in the ruins with the spores, and asks if the priest knows anything about them.

Gorron gives Ulf a complete physical examination and inspects his clothing and the remains of the coffer. Finally, he says: "Well, I know what it is--but I'll need some time to figure out what the proper treatment is. It's the Draining Fever--it will take hold before too long, and slowly the fever will build until your system is just completely overcome and you die, panting and heaving in a messy pile. I've seen a few cases, but it's rare enough that treating it is not within the realm of common healing arts. I will do what I can."

It will take Gorron 1d4 days to come up with the cure. Will Ulf wait around until that time, or does he have plans to hatch in the meantime?

On March 17, Gorron finds Ulf and gives him the bad news. "I can concoct the cure for the ailment that afflicts you, but it will require an ingredient I do not possess. There's a type of peat that forms around the roots of the Ayuna tree that often grows in marshes and swamps. The tree is recognizable by its golden-red bark and its star-shaped leaves. I need approximately three pounds of that peat, called Witch's Mange because of its pale coloration, and then I should be able to prepare an ointment within three hours that will arrest the spread of the Fever and allow you to recover.

"The trouble with this is, I don't know of any Ayuna trees here on the moor. Some travelers have reported spotting evidence of marshland to the west and northwest, but no one has specifically reported sighting one of these trees. If they are to be found in the time you have remaining, this is the best I can offer.

"Materials for the cure other than the Witch's Mange will cost twenty gold pieces. I will provide the necessary labor as a function of my priestly duties and of course there will be no charge, though a donation to the temple would be appreciated."

On his way back to the Inn, Lug Ulf goes shopping for a bag large enough to hold three pounds of Witch's Mange.

Would one large sack do it? If so, he'll buy two, to make sure he has a backup.

Yeah, one large sack will definitely do it. Even a small sack might but it would be packed.
