Background:
Bran Grimload hails from a small dwarven community not far from Ratikhill. Like most dwarves, he has a love for good beer, sparkling gems, and tasty food. He was content with living a mundane life, working in a small mine, strong drink and fantastic stories in the evening, and the occasional hunt for a dwarven wife. Well... mostly. A small part of him ached to swing his battle axe (a gift from his uncle) into the skull of a stinking goblin. But suppressing that urge had never been difficult.

That is, until his younger brother, Brin, went off and got himself lost. Or at least that's what everyone else assumes happened to him - the truth is, nobody really knows. The last thing Bran had heard was that Brin went to Ratikhill, looking for work as an adventurer - something about wanting to live the fleeting life of a sword for hire. That was over two months ago, and no one had heard anything since.

Finally, after much deliberation, Bran packed a rucksack, slid on his chain mail, slapped an old steel cap helmet on his head, and hefted his axe over his shoulder. He didn't have much of a plan, other than to go to Ratikhill and start asking around to see if he can find out what happened to his brother. He hopes, in the process, he can still manage to suppress that urge to take up an adventuring career himself.

Please note that rear AC excludes DEX and shield bonuses. It's just your raw, unmodified armor class.

NIce to see the character sheets rolling in! An interesting group is taking shape.

Just for consistency's sake, do me two favors on your character sheets:
  • Figure and express all weight allowance and encumbrance numbers in pounds rather than gold pieces. 10 gps = 1 lb.
  • Express movement rates in feet rather than abbreviated inches. Ie., 120' rather than 12".

My revised story:

I am currently under the employment of a wealthy trader in Shiptown to help deliver goods profitably between Marner, Johnsport and foreign lands. Occasionally, people have died for the opportunity to pay him. I can honestly say no man has shed blood that didn't deserve it. In fact I am travelling near Ratikhill looking for one such person at the moment.
One more rumor you may have heard… The stories around Bone March and Ratik that the Baroness to be has showed me particular favor are exaggerated. It is purely innocent I assure you. We have been best of friends since a childhood incident that left me orphaned and under the care of her father, Dunstan. It was he that procured my employment.

Background: Savik Greenlander is a Sylvan elf, hailing originally from somewhere within the Faerie Kingdom of Celene. He has been all across the Flanaess in his over 400 years and seen many of its lands and people. By being very lucky with the infrequent times he's taken chances, and aware enough to recognize it as such, he's taken to an unobvious yet ever cautious nature. With striving to maintain a hightened level of awareness, the sylvan elf has been able to avoid most trouble in his travels.

In his younger, brasher days, however, Savik somehow caused a serious injury of a personal kind upon a notorious half-orc brigand and murderer from the Bone March, promptly earning a blood oath from the wanted despot detailing how he and his deadly gang would track down the flighty elf to the ends of the Oerth if necessary, and visit a due and proper vengeance upon him. Of the permanent kind, of course. Is this the real reason Savik is a wanderer, never staying in one place for too long? If pressed upon the subject, he’d likely say his constant travels were due to his curiosity of all things, perhaps even what the elves would call a wanderlust of sorts.


Description: Savik stands 5’10” and weighs in at around 150 lbs. He is tall and somewhat lanky for an elf, having shoulder length black hair and soft green eyes. He is usually fairly quiet and reserved, preferring mostly to listen rather than speak. Savik has an easy way around others with his casual smile and respectful demeanor, but at times exhibits a reclusive if not overcautious nature about him. He moves gracefully, and always purposefully, and seems to keep his quickly-glancing and always-assessing eyes scanning for danger, threat or opportunity.


Disposition: Savik is happy to make casual acquaintance but prefers to keep to the background and out of others' way. He’s unusually quick to avoid conflict as a default and tries to show a high level of respect to others whenever possible. When he sees or senses danger, his demeanor can change in a blink, and he will not hesitate to use his vast arsenal of skills and weapons to counter any threat upon him, a friend, or other innocents.

Savik is sort of the cautious type by nature. He prefers to study his approach to situations rather than acting on impulse. When given the opportunity, he will always opt to do a stealthy reconnoiter and assessment and will always check doors and thresholds for traps and such when in dangerous or uncertain conditions. He prefers to hide and circle his enemies, attacking from the rear or flank, but is by no means cowardly and will press into melee combat to fight side by side with a companion when the opportunity to exercise his superior skill with the bow has been exhausted. Savik will use his magics freely for the benefit and survival of the party and will always seek to take moments at rest to meditate and memorize spells he and his companions feel are needed.

This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

Grainger is no mere historian. He represents the Temple of Delleb back in Ratikhill and is also specifically looking for the Illhiedrin book.
He claims it holds terrible and dangerous secrets within and that it should not be allowed to adorn a mage's treasury as a mere bauble, as he puts it. He also states that his order are the rightful claimants of the book.
