Chapter 4: Investigating Marmor Quarry

#1 Post by PyroArrow »

Ok, Let's continue with this new chapter!

I wanted to move all the posts beginning with this one on page 14 of chapter 3 to the beginning of this chapter but it does not appear that can be done now!

viewtopic.php?p=129007#p129007

Dungeon Master:

What was once a strong two-story building has crumbled to less than one full story.

The “L”- shaped ruins flank the stone bridge and rest precariously near the quarry pit ledge.

Strangely the wall nearest the ledge appears to be the most stable.

Large stones and rubble line the outside of the structure.

It appears that there is still an entryway into the front side of the building.

Will Arn & Elusev try look into the entryway?

===============================

Elusev Coldharbor:

Elusev will continue to cover Arn with his bow.

Arn will most definitely try to look through the entryway, because he's a paladin. It's what they do.

He will, however, try to approach it from an angle, to allow Elusev room to shoot into the doorway if something appears.

Standing near the entryway, but not going through, Hemlocks stands guard and watches as the others pass on by. "You know guys we do not have to explore every inch of everything we come across. We could just as easy bypass these ruins, for they stink of decay, and make our way to the other side of the pit by walking around it to the other side. We would not even need to take that old wood bridge either."

Dungeon Master:

The entryway opens into the white portion of the the 'L-Shaped' building on the map, just north of the Gazebo looking structure on the map, on the front south facing side of the building.

The Door is already opened a crack since the doorframe is broken from above & thus the door can not close all the way.

When Arn first peeks inside without moving the door he is greeted by a strong stench & can see only rubble & garbage inside.

Will Arn proceed to open the door?

Cayley:

Cayley moves into position to cover those investigating the building with her sling. Short range from the door--50'.

Still standing at the archway, Hemlocks calls out to those that are about to enter through the door. "I would not do that if I were you. Everyone has flask oil and flint to lite with. So, lite up a flask of burning death and toss it in there before entering. If the smoke and fire do not take care of whatever waits within that room it will at least make the damn place smell better!"

Arn gives Hemlocks a sour look. 'Yes, I suppose someone of less scrupulous character might take such an action. Besides, our goal in these parts is not to kill, but to gain information. If this is a scout's encamptment or forward sentry, we will want to take the occupants alive, if possible.

'I sense the evil coming from the north end of the building. Perhaps someone can circle around to to that side and trap the creature, and maybe even spy what it is from there.'
He stops for a moment to think, then turns back to Hemlocks, half-embarrassed. 'Better have that flask of oil ready.'

Laughing at Arn's comment, Hemlocks gets off the wall. "Do what you want my friend Arn, but there is no shame in burning whatever creature waits, in the dark room, ready rip you to shreds. Ask yourself...do you really think that whatever is in there will be surprised to see you enter. No! For whatever is making that room stink knows we are out here and it is ready."

"Smoke it out and burn it up are your better options."

"Well, I'm certainly curious to find out what's in the building," says the Doctor, "but burning it before we even know what it is seems like a waste!"

Elusev ignores the debate between the group and simply nods his head at Arn, lightly jogging around the building. He watches the building for anything that can spot him and slows to a careful walk once he nears the north side of the building. Searching for any openings in the structure.
Life is a roller coaster, if you don't stop to enjoy it then you may as well not even ride.

Dungeon Master:

Teladrin notices several goblin tracks both small & large coming & going, from the door way, in the gravelly mud

Elusev quietly goes around to the back of the 'L-Shaped' building, ducking below 1st story windows that are still intact, he finds there are no openings along the western side of the structure.

Did anyone else follow Elusev?

Staying where he was, Hemlocks does not move. For he knows death is waiting inside for those foolish enough to dive on in.

Procyon will stay at the front door with others.
How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, ’n’ how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, ’n’ how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind

Dungeon Master:

You all noticed the dead tree in the back, which is covered with markings indicating it is used for target practice.

You see a door here which appears to be ok & closed.

The Doctor & Jenks move to be on either side of the door.

Elusev will stick a couple of arrows in the ground near him, then slowly turn the door knob so he creates as little noise as possible.

Once he does so he will swing the door open quickly while jumping back as fast as he can and grabbing one of the arrows, nocking the arrow

and readying the bow at the entrance for anything that may be in his sights.

The door swings quickly open & surprises the room occupants several of which appear to be in bed rolls.

A few appear to be larger than the others & are not in bedrolls, in this darkened room.

Jenks holds position and will back-stab anything emerging from the doorway, assuming its unfriendly.
