Chapter 11: Anxiously Contemplating the Hobgoblins!

Prior to the Adventurers leaving the Keep, they were informed that the Goblin they had captured, mentioned that there are Hobgoblins in that cave & that there is some sort of

playroom where the Hobgolins have "Jolly good fun", & a laboratory, where the "Undead work on the undead."

They make their way without incident until they come upon the area where the graves are marked on the map.

Here they are stopped by the Keep's soldiers:

"Halt! we must warn you of the danger of continuing on this road & suggest you go to the Keep & stay until the area is deemed secured by order of Lord Guido Macsen Wiedig!"

Borum & Wexley:

Borum shows the soldier the parchment they received in the keep.

Wexley says to the soldier, "We still have the Kmarties to find and rescue."

Dungeon Master:

The Soldier takes the parchment from Borum & proceeds to read it then says,

"Very Well, then the note is authentic, you may all proceed & may you be blessed with luck in finding the Kmarties."

When the Adventurers reach the area near the bridge, Lutha Cee spots a Halfling, off to the left side of the road, in the woods.

The party has 1 segment to react, neither party was surprised by the other.

Wexley:

Draws his bow and nocks an arrow.

Lutha Cee:

Tells the person in front of him*: "Psst!. No man has a silver lining...but I saw such a man just now, to the left!"

*as I don't know our marching order, I don't know who this might be

Kormak & Mort:

Mort scans the surroundings while Borum and Wexley chat with the soldier.

Kormak stays alert from his position in the riding order scanning the area as Mort has taught him.

Idonea:

Scrutinizes the halfling: does he/she seem hostile, alarmed, or welcoming? How is he/she dressed? Armed? Does he/she seem poised to flee or hide?

Maya & Victor:

Victor seems to be busying himself with searching the surroundings with a smile on his face.

Maya gives the halfling a hard look, anyone that does not seem surprised to see a large and armed group usually knows they were coming. She checks the surroundings for any signs of an ambush as well as checking over the halfling.

Mr. Choe:

Hail, stranger! What is your business in these dangerous woods?

Dungeon Master:

Lutha tells the person in front of him*: "Psst!. No man has a silver lining...but I saw such a man just now, to the left!"

*as I don't know our marching order, I don't know who this might be

Wolfram:

Holds his head still to gauge the mild overhead current, then sniffs for any perceived variation in air quality, in order to apply his NWP Direction Sense 1 WIS +1 G to figure out from which direction the halfling came:

NWP/skill/perception/general aptitude roll: [1d20] = 7

He hears, nay senses, a silent whispering aerial message that to him seems to say, "It appears the halfling came from somewhere deep in the forest."

Idonea:

Halts her horse, and awaits the halfling's response to Choe's hail.

Dungeon Master:

The Halfling, clad in leather armor does not respond to Mr. Choe, instead everyone now sees that he just stares unmoving from a knelled position from which he is leaning against some bush branches.

Borum & Wexley:

Wexley dismounts and approaches the halfling, bow and arrow in hand.

Borum says, "Careful lad. It could be a trap."

Kormak & Mort:

Kormak "Hey lightfoot. Might you be a friend of the druids in these woods?"

Mort looks to the halfling with one eyebrow lifted in a questioning look "Hail tallfellow. Are you here to help?"

Dungeon Master:

As Kormak & Mort continue to try & talk to the Halfling, the halfling just continues to stay silent & unmoving.

GTan_Baq see PM about your approach to the Halfling!

Mort:

Getting no reply takes out his crossbow loads it, takes aim to cover the one wishing to approach the halfling.

Wexley:

Says, "The Halfling is dead! Got an arrow stuck right thru the middle of him!" With that, he begins backing away from the halfling scanning the woods for who or what might have killed the little fellow.


Wexley gets back on his horse.

Mort:

Keeps his crossbow ready but not aimed at the dead halfling.

Dungeon master:

Hmmm, seems as though the little hobbit acted as a speed bump!

So, here are two options:

1) investigate the hobbit further
2) Ignore & keep going to campsite
