Chp. 4: Wagons, Women and Wizards

#1 Post by Grognardsw »

The adventurers are soon underway. The morning is pleasant as the sun rises over the Keep.

The princess rides her unicorn for a ways. She is a sight. She lets the magic steed free around lunchtime and takes her meal in the wagon.

In mid-afternoon the party is traveling through a heavily forested area. They hear a thumping sound to the right, off the road. Looking over they see the trees parting as if something big is moving through the forest, in parallel to the road and wagon. From the road the adventurers cannot make out more than that.

Wulfhart, not wanting to stray too far from the princess, draws his bow, takes cover near the wagon and and nocks an arrow. He watches the forest in the vicinity of the moving trees.

Razmus puts his right hand in his inner robe pocket where he keeps the pouch that contains his spell components. He opens up the pouch, but doesn't remove anything until getting a visual. His fingers rest lightly just inside and he waits quietly atop his draft horse, watching through the trees.

Albertus, eases his horse and readies himself to cast a blinding spell. He thinks to himself. "Just who the hell does this lady think she is. She is no different than any of us...no matter what made up title she carries. These people that call themselves loyalty get me sick and to see my fellow adventures bow down to this one like a god really saddens me!"

Fingal

Jumping off his horse, Fingal will give it a slap in the ass to get it moving a little ways down the path we have just traveled. He doesn't want his horse to become lunch for whatever is heading towards us.

He will then find a tree or another close spot to hide in the shadows behind. He pulls out his bow and waits to see whatever it is we are about to face.

Foarcor

Foracor plunges into the woods with Bene in tow.

His plan is to move around the flank of the creature and approach from behind.

Whatever the creature, it seems to be paralleling the road and wagon, not cutting down to intercept. Foracor and dog move through the forest in the direction of the noise and swaying trees (see PM diz). The wagon continues on. One Unsullied guard gets on the roof of the wagon. The other sits in the driver's seat. The wary adventurers take guard, some in the forest. A hundred yards ahead the forest clears into an area of open land. If the mystery continues parallel, it will emerge within sight soon.

Foracor catches up with the party and shares his news just as the wagon reaches the forest clearing. It emerges from the trees...

"This must be one of those wood ducks I've heard about…" thinks Wulfhart.

He tears off a scrap of clothing and wraps it around the head of one of his arrows. He shouts for some flammable material. "Anyone have some oil?"

If he can get some, he'll quickly soak the wrapped arrowhead in the oil and ready his flint and steel.

Razmus stares in amazement. "That is one big chicken coop. I guess now would be too soon to say 'now I've seen it all'. Only the gods know what else exists in this strange world." He keeps his fingers in the top of his component pouch, ready to cast if need be.

Fingal

Fingal stares blankly at the "creature" not sure what to think. His bow is at the ready in case it attacks. Well, that's a bit unusual. Anyone else have a clue what it might be? Princess? He observes the guards and the unicorn to judge their reactions to the thing.

Is this what you'd call a medieval mobile home.

Observing the "building on legs" in awe Niles readies his sword and stays near the princess for now.

Boddin, hidden in the woods, gazes at the walking hut in wonder. "Maybe it's a pub," he says hopefully. "Still, best to be cautious." He draws his bow and prepares for an attack.

The creature, or building, or monster-hut, whatever one likes to call it, lops along the open field area. The adventurers are poised for combat. The Unsulled too are on guard. The driver continues the wagon forward.

The princess sticks her head out from a wagon window. "Fascinating, a work of mighty magics. I have heard legends of such a thing from distant Rysria."

The hut is almost across the clearing about to re-enter the woods when it stops, the front door facing the party. The door opens and out steps...

Foracor's Faint Memory

Foracor gives the party the "hold your fire" signal.

He takes a few steps forward, does a man curtsy and addresses the old crone: Foracor Ferestivian of the Fellreev Forests at your service, Ma'am.
Image
He continues,

In the Fellreev Forest we had stories of a powerful sorceress who had a walking house. Are you she?

Wulfhart maintains grip on his bow, ready to raise and fire if the denizen of the mobile home makes a wrong move (including beginning to cast a spell).
