Yes to the grove!

Re: Part 2b: The Northern Contingent: Something in the Water
Smokey seems to have have fallen into a despondent fugue, perhaps as a result of an injury to his head. Although still on his feet, he is barely responsive, and is not up to navigating the woods. It becomes Marcus' job to lead the party to the Grove.
Having fled off your intended course when dealing with the bear, another navigation roll is required. WIS check, please, MW.

Marcus jumps up on a nearby rock and survey's his surroundings, looking for landmarks to lead him in the right direction.
Marcus Wisdom Check(WIS:10): [1d20] = 11
Gah, anyone able to give me some power ups? I am just barely missing my roll!

If GW spends a fortune point, MW can re-roll the WIS check.GreyWolfVT wrote:sure Abel can pitch in a fortune or w/e lol
These checks will get harder as it gets darker.
Re: Part 2b: The Northern Contingent: Something in the Water
GW spends a Fortune point to help MW out. This gives MW +2, and sets you on the right path again!
You figure you have about two hours of travel before you reach the Grove. It is now dark. Do you have or use any light sources?

Marcus had no money to get anything lol. If no one else has anything we can try to improvise...

Abel regrets not buying a torch. "Blast I knew I forgot to buy something in town, Do you have another torch?"

You travel along through the woods. The flickering torch light keeps you from falling or bumping into trees, but it casts weird shadows patchy darkness that render the already-unfamiliar terrain even stranger.
You occasionally hear the movement of animals in the darkness, but nothing comes close enough to identify.
Let's have a WIS -5 navigation!

Bürd's WIS -5 = 10, Bürd rolls [1d20] = 1

Re: Part 2b: The Northern Contingent: Something in the Water
With a roll like Bürd's my roll is pretty much useless lol
Marcus Wisdom Check(WIS:10): [1d20] = 14-5=9

Re: Part 2b: The Northern Contingent: Something in the Water
The -5 penalty is taken off your stat, when you roll. Or, alternatively, think of it as a +5 to your roll result, and you're trying to roll low.
I'm taking Marcus' roll, since he has the established relationship with the Grove, and he has kicked around the woods the most. I'm assuming Abel and Bürd could find the Grove from the village, but you're approaching it from a completely different direction in an unfamiliar part of the woods.
However, Bürd's roll was so good, I'll allow it to provide a +2 bonus to Marcus'.
Marcus rolled a 14 + 5 - 2 = 17. His WIS is 10. Y'all're lost.
You march along, picking your path, pretty sure that you are at least headed in the right general direction, when you come across a steep-sided ravine. It is hard to see how deep it is by torchlight, but it is seems pretty deep. It is wide enough that you think you might be able to jump it. Maybe. If you're not too encumbered.
Hey! This game doesn't come with encumbrance rules! Fortunately, I have some quick and dirty ones right here:
STR = Number of Inventory Slots (how many items you can carry).
STR + 5 = Half Encumbered (you struggle to swim and move a little slower).
STR + 10 = Fully Encumbered (you sink like a stone and move at half speed).
DEX/2 (round down) = Fast Inventory Slots. These are items that you can reach instantly.
Armor takes up slots equal to AC!
Big items (i.e. polearms) take up two slots. Bundled items can be carried in bundles of three, and must be small enough that you could pick up a trio of them using only one hand. Packs of items can be carried in packs of ten, and must be small enough that you can pick ten of them using only one hand. 50 coins to a slot.

Marcus tries to scan the forest by the torchlight, failing. "Yes... It seems walking in the dark wasn't the smartest move... Let's camp for tonight and set off in the morning."

Abel can take first watch if he can use the torch to do so.
