Part 2b: The Northern Contingent: Something in the Water

GW: I have it that you ended up with the spear, and Smokey is hanging out in the back with a knife.

Bürd's BAB +1 and a Weapon Specialisation +2 were already added in my horrendous roll.

removed my specialization bonuses since I am using a sword and not my spear, adding in the additions to my initiative and the damage addition from the sword. I should be current with everything...Pulpatoon wrote:GW: I have it that you ended up with the spear, and Smokey is hanging out in the back with a knife.

Wow, yeah, spears and staves do the same damage. So, keep the macro.GreyWolfVT wrote:Alright so is it the same dmg on a spear so i can keep using my staff macro for now?
You guys jab nervously at the bear as it slowly climbs up the boulder. You keep getting in each others way. Bürd's elbow gets in the way of Marcus' swords swing, and Abel steps on Bürd's foot as he tries to use his axe. Smokey hangs out in behind you. Abel ends up jabbing the bear in the snout with the spear by accident as much as anything.
And now the boulder is all the more crowded, with the addition of one sick, determined bear.
Please state your Initiative (the flat number discussed previously. No need for rolling of any kind) and your intended actions!
Re: Part 2b: The Northern Contingent: Something in the Water
Bürd recognises the futility of everyone standing so close together and swinging steel - in one move he'll jump down beside the bear and hack at it with his axe...
Initiative 0 and To hit with greataxe: [1d20+3] = 20+3 = 23, damage: [1d10+2] = 3+2 = 5 CRIT!

Smokey
Smokey throws the knife [1d20] = 15
Please roll knife damage for me as I am clueless about the rules and really need to get off of my ass and do some reading for our mechanics here.

Smokey's Initiative is 4, so you pretty much always get first crack. Also, you get to add your DEX bonus to a ranged attack, which, for you, is +1.Dizlexus wrote:Smokey

A knife does 1d4 damage. In this instance:[1d4] = 1

Re: Part 2b: The Northern Contingent: Something in the Water
Marcus, seeing the wisdom of Bürd with this crowded outcropping, leaps from the rock onto the bear, keeping it's attention on himself and not his friends. He takes the sword and stabs into the beast. The sword glowing hotter as the battle continues. Since this is the third attack this sword has made I will take off 1 hp due to the sword.
Marcus Sword: Initiative(3) To Hit with Sword: [1d20] = 17, Damage: [1d8+2] = 4+2 = 6

Re: Part 2b: The Northern Contingent: Something in the Water
lost track so just going to roll my attack with spear.
Abel takes a stab again with the spear.
Staff Hit[1d20] = 4 dmg[1d6] = 2
Failing to hit anything of the large bear.

Re: Part 2b: The Northern Contingent: Something in the Water
Bürd's the last on initiative, so he's flying slowly through the air down at the bear, axe cocked and ready for a crit hit...

Re: Part 2b: The Northern Contingent: Something in the Water
Combat Round One!
Life finally animates the bear's features as it reaches the top of the boulder. It bellows and prepares to attack!
From behind the group, Smokey throws his knife!
Smokey throws the knife [1d20] = 15 dmg: [1d4] = 1
It strikes the bear's shoulder, cutting into the thick flesh, and then falling somewhere below.
Marcus crouches and flings himself at the bear, trying to leap on top of it, sword in hand!
Marcus Sword: Initiative(3) To Hit with Sword: [1d20] = 17, Damage: [1d8+2] = 4+1 = 5 (there's only been one previous round in this combat, so only +1. The sword has barely begun to glow!)
He doesn't quite land on top of the bear, but he does strike a powerful blow, striking the bear across its back!
Bear
The bear has a swift ability that allows it to attack multiple targets with its bite and claws!
The bear, head lowered, bites at the target directly in front of him: Marcus.
Bite: [1d20] = 16 +1 = 17
Damage: [1d8] = 2
The bear bites into Marcus' belly, but the semi-airborne Marcus tumbles out of the way before it can get any worse.
MW: please roll DEX as you likely fall off the boulder.
The bear swipes at Abel with one claw and Bürd with the other!
The Abel Claw: [1d20] = 7 + 1 = 8.
The claw goes wide!
The Bürd Claw: [1d20] = 10 +1 = 11.
Damage: [1d6] = 1
The bear's massive paw slides over Bürd's armor, but then one claw catches, tearing at the Dwarf's skin!
Abel takes a stab again with the spear.
Staff Hit[1d20] = 4 dmg[1d6] = 2
But to no avail.
The axe bites deeply into the bears shoulder! It slumps down from the impact, and struggles to get back up!
Crit bonus: You guys get a free round as the bear gets back on its feet.
11 points of damage in one round!
Abel is still on the boulder, with a spear. Smokey is behind him, without a knife. Bürd is standing on the ground below the boulder and the bear. Marcus is tumbling to the ground.
The bear is on the bank leading up the boulder, regaining its footing.
Round 2: GO!

Abel takes a stab again with the spear Staff Hit[1d20] = 9 dmg[1d6] = 2 once again proving he is not a great warrior.

Bürd raises his axe above his head and brings it down on the bear's skull!
To hit with greataxe: [1d20+3] = 14+3 = 17, damage: [1d10+2] = 7+2 = 9
Just checking: did that hit on Bürd last round take his +6 armor Mystical Shield into account?

Marcus Dexterity Check(DEX:14): [1d20] = 11
Tumbling down the rock while evading the bear Marcus takes a moment to right himself before again slashing at the beast, yelling to get it's attention.
Sword: [1d20] = 18, Damage: [1d8+2] = 4+2 = 6

Re: Part 2b: The Northern Contingent: Something in the Water
In a remarkable feat of agility, Marcus twists in the air, laying a sword blow on the bear even as he lands! Immediately following, Bürd's axe comes down on the bear's neck.
The bear slumps down, dead. The corpse smells terrible.
Marcus is bleeding from the stomach.

Re: Part 2b: The Northern Contingent: Something in the Water
Abel makes use of his herbalism and healing skills on Marcus. just not sure if that is a wisdom roll or what....I'll roll a d20. [1d20] = 4 passes no matter what stat that is based on.
