He serves it to Zix.

"Thieves should be clever folk, adroit of mind as well as hands," says the bartender. "Here you'll be challenged with riddles."

An older academic-looking man stands up from his table. "Tell me what this is, elf:

Turn us on our backs
And open up our stomachs
You will be the wisest of men
Though at start a lummox."

"Riddles! How wonderful!" exclaims, Zix. She thanks the bartender, and says "Could you be a book?" to the Academic looking man, then takes a sip of her wine.

"You are correct!" says the obese man. "Congratulations. Onto your next challenge!" He waves Zix on.

The elf moves to the final mock-room in this large test chamber. It is a faux outdoor scene with a few trees, bushes and a well. The floor is covered with dirt. The area is only about 15'x15'.

A halfling is sitting on the edge of the well. "'ello girl," he says. "Think you're up to this challenge? It's a tricky one."

"I'm carrying the prize. You catch me and get it. Easy, eh?

He fiddles with a ring on his finger and turns invisible.

No dust stirs on the dirt floor around the well wall (which is 3' tall.) Zix suspects the invisible halfling is still atop the wall.

With a fluid motion Zix draws forth her bow, nocks an arrow and fires. The arrow flies above the well wall but slices only air.

She hears the halfling giggle and jump down. Zix peers for telltale signs as she fires her second arrow.
Initiative: The Runner [1d6] = 4 vs. Enemy [1d6] = 1 Zix wins.
-4 applies for invisibility. Second arrow comes at end of round.
Please make Int. check with 4d6 to observe any dust.

As Zix aims her second arrow she spies a subtle puff of dust. With that cue, she fires her bow

and strikes the halfling! He gives a little shriek and becomes visible.

The second arrow was end of the round, so now it's actions for next round.

Zix sights the visible halfing and leaps over to grapple him. They struggle, but the elf's superior height and strength allow her to secure a hand clench lock on the halfling.

"Let me go!" he barks, squirming.
- Per the grappling rules in DMG p. 73, your modified grappling result number is 44, which on the chart is hand/finger lock/bite doing 2 HP damage plus Str. mod. (+1), for a total of 3 HP damage. The opponent gets a counter-attack to break the hold with a modified roll result higher than yours.
- Halfling counter grapple-attack [1d100] = 34, result [1d100] = 15 His result roll is not higher than yours, so the lock is held into next round. He'll take additional 3 points of damage in that round, and may try to counter again.

He gives up the prize: an electrum coin engraved with the sigil of the Guild.

There are no more mock-rooms in the large chamber. The only visible exit is in the west wall, a door on the balcony level 20' up.
