A Ripple in the Waters

As Alex and Abel near the rivers edge they can see a small rock beach 25' from where you stand. A small wisp of smoke rises from somewhere out of sight due to the bushes and overgrowth.

EDIT: The river here is neither deep nor swift.

Alex looks around for a rock or branch and tosses it into the water to see if he can stir a response from anything that might be lurking under the surface.

"Abel, you got an easy way across this?"

Alex smiles at the sploosh that didn't draw any attention, takes out his recently purchased knife, and wades across the water.

The water rushes around your ankles as you cross, then your thighs. You can see the bottom and it doesn't get deeper than that.
Abel sighs. "The fish doesn't smell THAT good." he whispers then sighs again.
"looks like I'm getting wet." and he follows you in.

Alex listens for signs of movement on the far bank, and continues to head toward the fish smell.

As Alex and Abel skirt the shoreline they clear some trees and see a man sitting on a log by a campfire. He is facing you and has a hunting bow across his lap.
He looks relaxed but stern as if expecting you.
There is also a rather large fishing boat docked behind him.

"Hello gentlemen." Shawn says, suddenly openly as though he was greeting them in a cafe.
"I hope this is a friendly visit."

Alex sheathes his knife and smiles and nods at the seated man, "It is. I'm Alex and this is," he pauses to allow Abel to introduce himself.

Alex approaches the camp fire, but not too closely or quickly so as not to alarm the seated man.

"Abel." Abel says nodding and relaxing a bit.
"Say, you wouldn't wanna trade that boat for a Jeep with no tires would ya?"

"What? The fish would miss me so. You are welcome to help me eat some of my scaled aquatic companions." Shawn answers, un nocing the arrow and checking the feast. "What brings you to my beachside cantina?"

Abel whisper to Alex"That boat would get us up river pretty quick, if it's got a good motor..."

After whispering about the boat and it's potential to get them where they need to go to Alex, Abel slings his bow and dons a friendly smile. Just like Alex, he moves slowly and uses his Heightened Vision to see if he can spot anyone or anything about that might be hiding or watching them from nearby. He'll also notate if he sees anything that appears radiated.

"Well, as we said friend, someone helped themselves to the wheels and tires on my Jeep yonder. While we were there looking it over, we could smell that fish on your cooking fire. We're heading north of here, as it were. Long walk without that Jeep. If that boat of yours has a motor, and you'd be willing, perhaps we'd be inclined to invite you to join us on our expedition. Think we know of a spot that might have some valuable resources," Abel trails off, glancing over briefly at Alex to see if he has any obvious objections to his offering.

OOC: thanks for NPCing Abel for me, TC! :D

As the trio chat, a low whistling can be heard. Soft at first but it gets louder and draws your attention to the skies. A ball of fire, like a shooting star streaks over head!
The whistling turns into a roar as the wind extinguishes the smoke revealing a metallic cyndrical object. More smoke and blue flame shoot from it's belly briefly, slowing it's descent and turning it back north.
It soars a hundred feet over your heads before disappearing over the tree lines farther up river. Hot wind blows over the group and Another thruster can be heard before a great sploosh sends birds flying from the trees.
Over the squaks of excited birds, a hoot can be heard from the forests across the river that sounds almost like a mating monkey.

Alex watches the course of the fiery metal cylinder and excitedly adds, "That! is where we are headed! And from the sound of it, the faster the better.

"Join us if you will, that boat looks to make the trip easy, but we'll just need to hoof it if you can't."

The boat is a large flat bottom fishing boat and will seat 4 comfortable, 5 in a pinch.

"I am between engagements, for the moment, and could use some exercise. I would be pleased to join you, Shawn Spencer's the name, having fun is my game." Shawn extends his hand and nods to them to partake in the feast.

"Thanks very much, Shawn. I'd be pleased to have a bite before we sail after our fate!"
Alex helps himself to some of the fish, and hopes to get everyone into the boat and to the crash site as soon as he can.
