The Opportunity (Thread for Alex and Abel)

Alex Auster has been a bit of a wanderer since his father died from poison. He eventually found a
merchant store in Meremac State Park and they welcomed him into their living spaces for as long as
he wants to stay. He has been acredited to a higher intellect and is responsible for monitoring
the long range and short wave radios for the camp. He may be happy with the responsibility but longs to explore the world beyond the park and has been refused militia missions on Several occasion.
He recently overheard a man named Abel arguing with one of the militia officers about being overlooked for scavenge missions and not being given the same opportunities as others. Seems Alex and Abel have something in common.
Abel Simion is also a resident of Meremac Caverns camp. While he looks the millitary type due to his
uniform, he has yet to be invited into the millitia that protect the camp. He has asked on several occasions to go on sscavenge runs but is always told he is not ready. Frustrated, recently he got into an argument with one of the militia officers.
Meremac Caverns is indeed a safe community. It was started by a group of survivalists when the
Reticulans first made contact with mankind. The deep limestone caverns provided a great deal of
safety against the terraforming event and the population of 15 families remained unaffected and
pure strain. Over the last 50 years people have come and gone. The Caverns are now run and protected
by a militia and is under constant martial law.
They allow in mutated humans but are still very prejudice against aliens and very uneasy around
mutated animals.
Many of the founding members were ex-military and after the terraforming event they made regular
scavenging runs into the various neighborhoods surrounding the state park and are very well supplied.
The old gift shop has even been renovated into a trade depot for those who wish to barter goods.
The community has aquired a Ion generator and has a great deal of electrical power, although the
militia leaders still ration it out, maintaining control over the population.
The militia is also the only body of people allowed to leave the park proper on raiding runs and
tend to be welcomed back as heroes. This has put a bit of a strain on the younger generations as they
to want to get out and explore. Perhaps also being called heroes when they return with supplies.
This is not allowed. Anyone may come and go, but if anyone leaves the state park, they are not
allowed back in without a bountiful haul. This is how the militia controls the population and
maintains it's control and power over them.
Alex, while monitoring the long range radio, came apon a transmission from close orbit. It seems
one of the Reticulan ships that were left in orbit when they sabotaged the mother ship has a
decaying orbit and is powering up for an emergency landing. This could be a great oopportunity to recover some alien technology and make a name for yourself among the camp.
