Ok, we need a horsemanship check from Jhary then (just roll 1d20 too). And this better not fail, worst case scenario he'll trample the Earl...there ain't that much space on the passage, not with a stopped horse and sprawled man on the floor. :)

[1d20] = 11

11, well this could be good or bad.

Not excellent, but sufficient.

Seeing the champion he serves fall, Jhary none the less decides to attept what Earl Aubec failed at, to ram his horse through the barrier of guards. His steed rides on and manages to avoid stepping on the downed form of Aubec or collide with his now riderless horse.

But the maneuvering and positioning comes at a price. While Jhary successfully charges into the guardsmen, and even knocks one of them senseless with the collision, he is unable to ride through them to the other side. He finds himself atop his horse, sword in hand, amidst about half-a-dozen armed men.

Ok, we're going into rounds-mode. Declare your actions and make any relevant rolls (attack, damage, etc).

Note: Aubec having the Horsemanship NWP allows him to leap into the saddle in a single segment with a successful check, so he doesn't have to waste a whole round if that is his intent.

Aubec / at the city gates

Aubec roars in frustration at his horse and the situation. For a moment he's not sure whether to slay the god-damned warhorse for halting, or the guards. Wisdom prevails. He leaps to the saddle, spurs the horse forward and slashes down at the nearest guard in an attempt to break through the gate.
Unmodified to hit with Great Sword (THACO: 9) [1d20] = 4, S/M damage [1d10] = 2, L damage [3d6] = 9
Modifications: +7 to hit, +10 damage
Ah... the dice roller continues to perform wonderfully. Thank the Balance for all those pluses.
Jumping on horse: Non-Weapon Proficiency Roll [1d20] = 10

Jhary begins to attempt to cutting a path through the enemy that remain. He hopes that every soldier that he fights is one less for Aubec to deal with as he attempts to remount.

Day 0 - Early Night - Cadsandria/At the Old Gate

Musical Theme: Fight at the Old Gate

Round 1

Party Initiative: [1d6] = 2, NPC/Monster Initiative: [1d6] = 3

Segments: Guards 2nd, Jhary 3rd, Aubec 6th

Remember I need rolls to go with declared actions. When a character is attacking the post must have the link for the dice roller results for the "To Hit" and "Damage" rolls. I'll roll for Jhary this Round, but remember the procedure in the future.

Jhary raises his sword but finds himself surrounded by a swirling sea of blades. Before he can make an effective strike several swords lunge at him for various directions. Two meet their mark, one on each side. The cut at his left ribs is particularly painful, for the swordthrust from below found its way thru and opening in his leather armor. For a very short moment Jhary things he will pass out, but then the pangs of pain mixed with the adrenaline release of combat becomes a fierce hatred and fuel for the killing machine that is Jhary-a-Conel's sword arm. When he does brings down his weapon Jhary casts one of his foes down too, the man's head turned into crimson mess mixing bent helm metal, shattered bone and gore. He falls like a felled tree down on the ground...silently, like sages of the Unknown East reputedly claim trees falling with none nearby do.

Then comes Aubec a-riding. After getting himself up and leaping upon the saddle, the Earl spurred his horse and even as he leads the beast with his legs, his greatsword swings and slashes to his loyal companion's aid. With a horrid scream another of the gate guards joins his fallen mate in death, not of a broken skull as Jhary did, but nearly cut in twain obliquely from shoulder to gut. With a hefty pull Aubec frees his sword from the body and that release sends a dark-red jet of body-warm blood flying and spattering the surroundings.

If the Earl and his Companion expected such displays of martial butchery to damped the gate guards' spirit, they are disappointed. As the second man dies and falls, one of their number shouts loudly in equal measure of shock and indignation:

"They killed Khevin!"

"You bastards!!!" cries another in response, as he points the tips of his sword menacingly to the pair of riders.

Apparently, poor expired Khevin was dearly beloved of this bunch, for the guards begin to move to mass more tightly around Aubec and Jhary. Their snarling faces and hate-laced eyes can tell no lie: they've wagered all and naught on a fight to the finish to avenge their fallen.

Round 1 Ends

Situation: Jhary has lost 23 HP!

Declare actions and make rolls for Round 2

Aubec / battle at the gate

The Earl of Malador slashes down about the guards with his sword. With a certain foot kick he gives the order for his warhorse to do a trample attack on the guard in front of him, hoping the steed is more cooperative this time.
Unmodified 'To Hit' with Great Sword (THACO: 9) [1d20] = 12, S/M damage [1d10] = 3, L damage [3d6] = 13
Unmodified 'To Hit' with Great Sword (THACO: 9) [1d20] = 9, S/M damage [1d10] = 1, L damage [3d6] = 11
Modifications: +7 to hit, +10 damage
I forgot my second attack in the first round, oh well.
Varg you'll roll for the warhorse?
Jhary: Remember Fate points, if it gets that serious.
With the two killed thus far, and likely others now, Aubec hopes to make an opening through which he and Jhary may ride through.

Jhary, reeling from the two wounds, knows that he must get away soon or he will be dead. He looks for the best opening and kicks his horse in the flanks towards his best route for escape. He attacks whoever is in the path as he tries to force his way through the men around him.

Attack:
[1d20] = 19+1 = 20
Damage:
[1d8+5] = 3+5 = 8

Jhary is only attacking once this round as he will also be busy steering his horse.

Sorry for making you guys wait for this post :(

Day 0 - Early Night - Cadsandria/At the Old Gate

Round 2

Party Initiative: [1d6] = 5, NPC/Monster Initiative: [1d6] = 2

Segments: Party 2nd, Guards 5th

Aubec's sword swings and sings its deathsong. Two more men are cut down and sprawl to the ground gushing crimson generously. His horse kicks and bites a guard in front of him and that man too goes down screaming.

Then Jhary rides thru the gap Aubec and his steed opened on the body of men, as a parting gift he slashes open the throat of yet another guardsman as he passes by, riding towards and thru the open gate.

With fury and hatred replacing reason with foolhardy bravery the few remaining guards try to step over the bodies of their comrades and get at the Earl, but he too rides towards the gate before their medium length blades can reach him.

A moment later both riders have disappeared into the night's dark of the road beyond the city walls, riding at full speed. The only testimony of their passage, a half dead force of gate guardsmen.

Round 2 Ends - Combat Ends

Cripes! What a massacre that was... I will be making a new action thread and will post the link here. Wait until it is up before continuing the action there.

Edit: here we go, post at will: viewtopic.php?f=84&t=1653
