How To Get Email Notifications for Forum Activity

#2 Post by Eris »

Get Email Notifications for Forum Activity

This may be old hat for some of us, but for those that don't know, or forget here is how you can have Unseen Servant email you when activity occurs in the Forum.

I think the following sets the Notifications of ALL Forums you are subscribed to on the Board

1. Go to Front page where all the Forums are displayed. index.php
2. Click on UCP (top of page on some browsers it is the bottom of the page)
3. Click on Board Preferences
4. Click on Edit notifications (left side of page).
5. Select the email checkboxes for, at least, the following:
Someone replies to a topic to which you are subscribed
Someone quotes you in a post
Someone creates a topic in a forum to which you are subscribed
Someone replies a topic in a forum to which you are subscribed
If I'm not wrong this should get you an email for almost anything a user experiences in all the forums to which they are subscribed.

Now to actually subscribe to a Forum.
1. Do the above and then...
2. Open the Forum you want to Subscribe to, and scroll to the bottom of the page...all the way down.
3. Click on Subscribe Forum and the text will change to Unsubscribe Forum.
4. You should be subscribed to that forum now and will receive notifications on all
posts as you set in the settings above until you click again and change the text back to Subscribe.

To See Which Forums You Are Subscribed To...
1. Click UCP at top of screen (bottom on some browsers)
2. Click Manage Subscriptions on left sidebar.

How to Play This Game

#3 Post by Eris »

We are using the free 5e Basic Rules. Going beyond them will happen, but will be limited for a number of reasons.

It is important to Ask! You might get a yes, but don't complain if you get a no.

Some people like to roll dice, some don't. If you don't want to roll, I'll roll for you, and I'll be both fair and honest when I do. If you do like to roll, use the Dice Roller here on Unseen Servant.

Use PbP Forum code so it looks like this when you paste it in: Casting Burning Hands (11+): [1d20+1]=8+1=9 Damage (15save): [1d6+3]=5+3=8 <-- the spell failed, but if it had succeeded, I'd know what I needed to roll against on the save and what the damage was. This makes it easier for me and saves time.

These things I am definitely using from 5e Hardcore Mode:
  • PC's don't advance beyond 10th level (you can keep playing them, but no stats or go up from there. For one thing that means top spells for PC's will be 5th level, nothing beyond that! NPC's yes, PC's no.

  • Roll to Cast for Spells! HardCore Mode says 1d20+Mod >= 10 to succeed. I'm thinking hard about changing that to 10+Spell Level.

  • Zones : Here is near by, in melee; There is in the scene and in range for ranged combat; Elsewhere is not in the scene, maybe you hear something in the distance, maybe you don't)

  • Classic XP: variable by class

  • The Upper Hand: whoever gets it has Advantage on all rolls, even roll 3 and take the best in some cases!

  • Death and Healing: Easier to die, harder to heal.
From Old School and common courtesy I'm taking:
  • NO Darkvision for PC's! I'll give you low light vision for Dwarves and Elves (Near, out to ~30' shades of gray only and only where there is some hint of light from somewhere. Monsters have infra-vision, PC's do not!)

  • Encounters are not scaled by PC level: If fighting is too hard...RUN Away! Or find a way past without fighting

  • Rulings over rules & Narrative over Rolls: Try things, even if they aren't on your sheet! Tell me what you're doing and how, you might not need to roll to do it and you might get a bonus if you do! Cool almost always trumps rule, too! Swing from chandeliers, run across tightropes, improvise things! Sometimes it won't work, but sometimes it will and the more fun it is the more likely I'll let it work! If something doesn't conform to a rule in the book, there's a reason for that in the DM's world and don't expect the DM to tell you want it is...take it as an "Oh! Different!" moment.

  • No over arching plot/story! Yeah, I have ideas and things happen in the world, but there's not a plot. You can do what you want, go where you want. Feel free to surprise me from time to time.

  • Don't be an ass! Do I have to explain that? Now days, courtesy isn't common, make it be so in this game.

  • Boost the Party! You are a team. Support your team mates. Make them look good. Make sure they get a chance to shine. If you do, and they do, everyone wins!
