Here are some notes on your skills. Note that there's an addition to the Mechanics post: If you have no skill in something, the TN is raised by 5, and your dice do not explode. If you have a 0 in a Knack, you have no additional dice, but you don't suffer the unskilled penalty.


Acrobat (Recommend removing this, as its Basic Knacks are covered under Sailor or Athlete)

Able Drinker costs 1 point, and heavy drinking will not effect your rolls. If you also remove Acrobat, that gives you 3 points to spend. As written, he is a very naturally gifted young man without much real world experience.

What can 3 points get me? Improve a civil skill or advance a martial one or pick up a lifestyle handicap or boon?

Improve basic Knacks (1 point is + 1, can be stacked), or buy one Advanced Skill.

If he's a ship board fencer, then Attack (Fencing) to 2 and Balance to 3. That means he has 5k3 for Fencing attacks; roll 5 dice, keep 3. With Balance, someone aboard a ship needs a 20 to hit him. Footwork is like balance, but on land.

Or if you see him as wanting to become a pirate Captain, then Pilot (Advanced Skill) might be useful. Or Leadership.

For organization, I usually keep the knacks sorted under their skills, and separated by Basic/Advanced so I know how much they cost to improve.

Figure 2 points for a language, common ones besides English are Spanish, French, and Dutch.

Looks like a great character, I'll think on some ideas for him.

Once it's finalised I'll rearrange the knacks/skills as suggested. The current way makes it easier to track points spent.

Is there a local patois? I'm think Spanish, Dutch and a local language.

Your Sailor skill would cover the ability to talk with other sailors. I'm not sure how much langauge divergence had happened in the time period. I'll ask about period of choice in the OO Sea thread.

Various attendants; four ladies in waiting, three chefs, sixteen seamstresses, two jewelers, and twelve porters/lackeys.

A Spanish priest of some sort, carrying a sword and very contemptous of everyone else.

Half a dozen Scottish criminals, chained belowdecks.

Three Jewish men of Prussian nationality. They keep to themselves and are unarmed.

Half a dozen Dutch Freemasons, along with their implements and materials.

Thirteen Italian females of dubious morality.
