Re: OOC Dice Roller

#2 Post by Eris »

I'm still trying to figure out the dice roller. :) As an example here are the results of choosing from the different options after making the die roll:

1. PbP Forum code: Wisdom check: [1d20-1]=11-1=10

2. PbP Forum insert:

...and then the last two...

3. Link to Character: https://www.unseenservant.com/index.php ... ts&pc=9851

4. Link to Campaign: https://www.unseenservant.com/index.php ... paign=1038

Which one should we be using in the game? Hum, well 1 and 2 look like the ones to pick from as 3 and 4 are links to all the character or campaign rolls in order.

3/4 would be good for auditing rolls, but not for game play.
1 looks cleaner and fits inline better.
2 looks nicer but certainly takes up more room.

Oh, and wrap in Spoiler or not? I think IMO with 1 yes, with 2 no.

What do you think?

I like 1 with the spoiler tags. It's less intrusive and provides the full result of the roll.

Welcome, @BaltoBruiser, to the game. We just started the first quest; there shouldn't be too much to catch up on. I'll work on a way to introduce Gurkidd to the party as quickly as possible.

Hey! Pleased to meet you, glad you're here. Somebody to heal Quinn the Rash when he goes bashing his shoulder with doors? :)

Re: OOC Attribute Options

#7 Post by Eris »

It's certainly not in the book, and I'm not advocating for this in this game, but a common house rule (even with BFRPG) is to allow players to reroll if their PC's have an average across all attributes below zero. I've even seen it as reroll if the average is below one! The other one I've seen that I like a lot is allow a player with low Attributes to invert them, ie. subtract each score from 20, they have to do it for every attribute, not just the low ones. As an example Quinn's attributes would be like this...
6 -> 14
14 -> 6
11 -> 9
11 ->9
8 -> 12 ...so he wouldn't really be any better than he was before. It does help if an unlucky player really does roll up a set of horrendously low scores, though. :)

Those subdual penalties are pretty major. I'm pretty sure there's been at least one roll that would have hit if it wasn't for the subdual to-hit penalties.

Do Gurkidd and Balteus get "parting shots" in on the fleeing thug leader? Or has he fled too quickly for us?

The Leader withdrew at the cost of half movement:
To avoid the parting shot, the combatant may choose to withdraw, i.e. back away by up to half normal movement. After a withdrawal, the character may still attack at any point later in the same round if an opponent is within reach.

Thanks for volunteering. I think using something like Gridmapper will make drawing and sharing easy.

I can create a "Maps" thread where you (or whoever the mapper is) can edit one post and continuously update the map as the party progresses. This should keep the main thread focused on gameplay.

Thoughts?

I haven't used gridmapper but if you and the party can be patient with me, I am happy to try it. I think the maps thread makes sense.

Great. Make a post in this thread with Old Ruins at the top: https://www.unseenservant.us/forum/view ... hp?t=13040

Once you figure out how to save and upload pictures (I'm happy to assist if you need it), update the post as we progress.

Unfortunately, Elysium777, aka Balteus, decided to drop out of the game. I've updated the original LFP post for this game with a free slot. If you know someone who would be interested in dropping in as a substitute, feel free to reach out.

Otherwise, I'm wondering what we should do with now two NPCs. One option is leaving Cameron to guard Betsy and the cart while I roll for Balteus, who can be considered a hireling for now. Thoughts?

Sorry, I've been silent for a few days. Anyway, I think your suggestion is reasonable, and then we can let him go his own way if we survive the dungeon.
