Day 5 - Morning - Lake's Edge/By the Rope Bridge
Round 3
Party Initiative: [1d6] = 5, NPC/Monster Initiative: [1d6] = 3
Segments: Party 3rd, Vine 5th, Stonjuz 7th
Malone's efforts finally pay. Assaulting the stem with his halberd once again he manages to wound the core of the plant; pale sap sputters from a gash the ax blade inflicts on the coiled creeper around the pine tree and the whole leafy thing, tendrils and all shudder as if in response.
With Stonjuz freed from the grasping vines and no other companions caught in them at the moment, Thurinor decides to unleash his magic against the root of their plant enemy. An arrow of glowing magical energy forms betwwen the elf's hands and shoots fast, turning to avoid Malone, to hot the plant embraced around the pine tree. The smell of burnt wood reaches Malone's nostrils and the vine monster shudders again.
Silently, the lizardman Swilbosh takes another hack at the nearest tendril with his battleaa, but the flailing plant limb avoid the kiss of his weapon.
Ozborn is more effective. Hacking away again with twin shortswords he manages to sever yet another vine-tendril.
Ogirdor backs off out of reach from the tendrils and exhorts his companions to do the same. Stonjuz finishes his appeals to Boccob and moves to the ranger's side, touching and healing him with magic power.
Now the plant monster lashes out its remaining tendrils once again...

Seeing the warriors do their job in a most capable way, Andrin retreats a bit and stays out of the way for the rest of the battle.

The dwarf stands with symbol, waiting for someone else to fall below half hitpoints.
His words are remindful of a boxing corner man.

Ozborn does not doubt the wisdom of Ogirdor's advice, but can't help taking a few more swings at the freakish plant:
To hit w/ Short Sword, main hand: [1d20+2] = 9+2 = 11, damage (s/m): [1d6+3] = 1+3 = 4, damage (L): [1d8+3] = 1+3 = 4

Thurinor also remains well back from the viney monstrosity. He pulls out his crossbow but does not fire. Instead, he looks about in case of an attack from some other entity. "I always like a good fight with a carnivorous plant, don't you Stonjuz? If there is a druid somewhere close, his wilderness does not lie unprotected..."

Round 4
Party Initiative: [1d6] = 4, NPC/Monster Initiative: [1d6] = 6
Segments: Vine 4th, Party 6th, Ogirdor/Thurinor 7th, Stonjuz 10th
The plant monster is swifter than all and lashes out again before any can reposition themselves.

While thinking of readying his crossbow and walking over to where Stonjuz stands the elf magician Thurinor is attacked by both remaining spiky tendril...

...and finds himself wrapped by the pair, drinking their fill of his blood; the elf feels like half his lifeforce was drained away. Stonjuz begins moving towards Thurinor and preparing his healing magic. Swilbosh comes swinging with his axe to try and free the elf but fails to cut the vines. Meanwhile Malone keeps hacking at the plant's root on the pine tree with equal no effect. Andrin steps back out of reach. Ozborn keeps hacking at the vines but his shortswords fail to cut any.
Ogirdor, out of harm's way, exhorts his companions to retreat as he puts melee weapons away and readies bow and arrow. Thurinor manages to get his un-loaded crossbow out
[1d8] = 5
His incantation finished, Stonjuz touches poor Thurinor, taking care not to poke any of the spikes and a surge of divine healing courses the elf's body. He feels much better.
Thurinor recovered all the HPs lost to blood drain.

Re: Action Thread #8 - Beyond the Lake
After the healing of the elf, again the dwarf's words are mindful of a corner man.
"Quit toying with it. Send this thing back to it's mama. It looks like we are trying to throw the fight. Anybody else need healing? Could be the last chance."
(Just in case another party member gets drained again.)

Ogirdor maintains his current position, bow ready.
Let us know once you fellas have enough of being hacked to pieces. If you do, of course.

Malone hears the calls to desist, but his frustration overrides any rationalization.
He hacks away...

Swilbosh has one last hack at a tendril:
Battle Axe To Hit [1d20+2] = 20+2 = 22 Damage [1d8+2] = 1+2 = 3
at last - surely we have done something significant now!

"Thanks... Ston... juz! What unrelenting... hospitality... in... this... forest!" With no better option, Thurinor aims his crossbow at the central plant and fires. Believing his shot to have gone awry, he throws the weapon to the ground.
Crossbow to-hit: [1d20+1] = 9+1 = 10; Damage S-M/L: [1d4+1] = 4+1 = 5/[1d4+1] = 4+1 = 5

Day 5 - Morning - Lake's Edge/By the Rope Bridge
Well, we don't have aposted action for Ozborn yet. But moving onward...
Round 5
Party Initiative: [1d6] = 3, NPC/Monster Initiative: [1d6] = 4
Segments: Vine 3rd, Party 4th, Thurinor 6th, Stonjuz 8th
Ogirdor and Andrin their distance, the former advising his companions to retreat in his ironic manner. Stonjuz readies himself to cast his healing magics again if case need be.
The remaining vine tendrils coil and lash out again.
[1d5] = 2
[1d4] = 3
[1d5] = 1
One is drawn to the root and strikes at Malone, who had been damaging the stem. Trying to hit the warrior on the back. The other assaults Stonjuz.
Malone: Spiky Vine Tendril attack: [1d20] = 11
Stonjuz: Spiky Vine Tendril attack: [1d20] = 14
Instinct warns Malone of the attack and he leans to the side, avoiding the tendril but Stonuz is not so lucky. Concentrated on the safety of other and readied to unleash magic he is spiked and drained before he knows whats happening.
Stonjuz looses 4 HP due to clood drain. The damage interrupts any spellcasting he could have done this round.
In retaliation Malone swings his halberd again and is rewarded with a mighty blow to the vine stem around the pine tree that splits wood asunder and sends gunky sap droplets flying everywhere...still the twitches and moves, not dead yet.
Swilbosh imitates him with his battleaxe, attacking the tendril holding on to the dwarf. He hits and the spiky appendage, while not fully severed, recoils.
Thurinor takes the time to get a bolt and load his crossbow, which he then fires against the creeper stem on the pine tree choosing to ignore the fact that Malone is in the vicinity. Fortunately or unfortunately, the missile hits nothing flies by deeper into the woods. The elf then throws his weapon into the ground.

Re: Action Thread #8 - Beyond the Lake
Malone gets rather irate that he seems to be fighting this thing alone... but continues, and apparently misses.
To Hit with Halberd: [1d20] = 10, Dam(s/m): [1d10+6] = 4+6 = 10, Dam(l): [2d6+6] = 3+6 = 9

is there a crit miss in this game?

ooc: So sorry, guys. I fully believed I had already posted my attack. Here goes:
Ozborn, though momentarily off balance due to tripping on a tree root (ahem!...) recovers himself and attacks the vine with both short swords, intent on pruning its hedges like its hedges have never been pruned before:
To hit w/ Short Sword, main hand: [1d20+2] = 14+2 = 16, damage (s/m): [1d6+3] = 4+3 = 7, damage (L): [1d8+3] = 4+3 = 7
